Helix Mattress Review Overview

Helix became famous in the late 1990s as being one of the first mattress companies to provide fully customizable mattresses, which include mattresses that have two distinct constructions on both sides to accommodate partners with differing preferences for sleeping. While the company recently slashed its customized products, it’s still determined to offer a broad variety of sleeping options.

Helix now offers six mattresses that are hybrid in its lineup, each with a different softness level and hardness. Here’s a rundown of who’s most likely to get a good night’s sleep on these mattresses (and those who may not).

Who Might Like the Helix Mattresses?

  • Those who sleep hot and require an airy mattress
  • People who need a wide variety of choices to select from

Who Might Not Like the Helix Mattresses?

  • People who select the mattress that’s not a hybrid
  • Individuals who do not require or need coil support

Helix Mattress Firmness and Feel

You might have noticed that stiffness is already discussed in this roundup. That’s because one of the most important aspects to think about when purchasing a new mattress is the firmness (and how it affects comfort). These elements will reveal the bed’s ability to accommodate your preferred bed place (s). Let’s have a look at the firmness and feel that comes with the Helix mattress series.

What Is the Firmness of Helix Mattresses?

The Helix mattresses are available in a range of different hardness choices, with the softer being moderately soft and the firmest being fairly firm. The Helix Sunset is on the lower end of the scale and we have given it a rating that was 5.5 out of 10 in the firmness scale. (A 6.5/10 would be the standard industry norm for medium firmness.) Helix Dusk is next. Helix Midnight is next, and we gave it a score of 6/10 which means that it’s more soft than the norm. It’s softer than the Helix Midnight as well as the Helix Dusk sit somewhere between the spectrum. Both mattresses have a score of 7/10, which is a bit heavier than average. Helix Twilight and the Helix Twilight, as well as Helix Dawn are at the firmer side of the spectrum, with each receiving an 7.5/10 score (firmer than the average).

It is important to remember that the level of hardness is a matter of personal preference. In terms of the firmness of the mattress, you can evaluate these mattresses in different ways based on your body weight and your personal preferences. Heavier persons, for example could find the mattresses firmer since they can press further into the mattress to reach the support layers. Meanwhile, lighter people may discover that these mattresses are softer since they are higher on the comfort level of each bed(s).

Sleeping on the Helix Mattresses

We slept on the Helix mattress for a long time to get a clear picture of what it’s like to rest on each model in various positions. Check out what we found!

Helix Sunset Mattress

Where Can You Try A Helix MattressBecause of its softness, because of its softness, Helix Sunset didn’t feel nearly sufficient for back sleepers. Our hips were a bit too deeply in the bed, causing the spine to become misaligned.

The Helix Sunset’s softness isn’t ideal for those who sleep on their backs but it’s great for side sleepers. We felt very at ease in this position due to the soft mattress cushioned possible pressure areas around the hip and shoulder. In fact, it’s one of the best mattresses for hip pain we’ve seen.

The Helix Sunset is not supportive enough for stomach-sleeping due it is soft. Our hips sank too deeply into the mattress which pulled our spine out of alignment, exactly like they did when we were asleep back.

Helix Moonlight Mattress

helix-moonlightAs a back sleeper while sleeping, back sleeping, the Helix Moonlight was adequate but not exceptional. If you plan on sleeping in this position all through the night, you’ll want a firmer mattress that provides more support and assists in maintaining an appropriate spine alignment.

The Helix Moonlight is an excellent option for sleeping on the side because of its comfort. We didn’t feel any uncomfortable pressure on the shoulder or hip.

The Helix Moonlight, like the Helix Sunset, isn’t sufficient for stomach sleep. Our hips were pushed too far to the bed, leading the spine to be out of alignment.

Helix Midnight Mattress

Helix Midnight Luxe FeatureWhen we lay down in the Helix Midnight We felt amazing. We enjoyed a touch of pressure relief, but without losing spinal alignment thanks to the mattress’s great blend of comfort and support. It’s the most comfortable mattress for back sleepers on this list.

Despite the fact that the Helix Midnight mattress is firmer than it’s counterparts, the Helix Sunset or Moonlight and Moonlight, we discovered it to be comfortable to sleep on our sides on this mattress. It provides adequate pressure alleviation on the hip and shoulder, in our opinion.

While stomach sleeping on the Helix Midnight, we felt good but not great. If you sleep in this posture all night long should look for mattresses that are firmer and provide greater spinal support.

Helix Dusk Mattress

helix-duskIt’s the Helix Dusk is more supportive than the other models that we’ve tested. This could explain why we felt at ease while sleeping upon our backs. We’re certain that we’ll enjoy an ideal spinal alignment throughout the night because of the mattress’s supportive nature.

It’s probably not surprising it is that Helix Dusk feels a little too firm for side sleeping considering that we’ve moved to the firmer side of the spectrum. We noticed some pressure on the hip and shoulder area, which would definitely cause discomfort if you were to sleep in this position for a long time.

The Helix Dusk should suit stomach sleepers of average weight since it can help in maintaining a proper spine alignment. However, stomach sleepers who are heavier might not get sufficient support.

Helix Twilight Mattress

helix-twilightThe Helix Twilight was proved to be the best mattress for back pain. It’s the ideal mattress for back sleepers who require extra support due to weight gain or back pain, as well as other causes. The firmer construction of this mattress aids in keeping the hips lifted and aligned with the spine.

Because this mattress Helix Twilight is more firm than the average mattress We found it hard to lay on our backs on this mattress. We felt suffocated in the hips and shoulders.

Most stomach sleepers should find the Helix Twilight to be a good choice, as the mattress’s hardness will give enough spinal support in this position.

Helix Dawn Mattress

helix-dawnBack sleepers who favor an extra firm mattress will love the Helix Dawn’s high level of support. However, those who like an occasional relief from pressure when lying back may likely find this mattress too firm.

The Helix Dawn is far too hard for side sleeping and you’ll end up with a lot of pressure points on your hip and shoulder. A softer model will be considerably better for sleepers who prefer side sleeping.

It is the Helix Dawn Mattress is one of the most comfortable mattress for stomach sleepers in our opinion. Throughout the night this supportive and firm mattress keeps the hips raised and aligned in alignment with your spine.

What Do the Helix Mattresses Feel Like?

Helix mattresses have a hybrid structure that has foam layers over coils. However, despite these similarities however, each Helix mattress has its own distinct character.

The Helix Sunset offers a soft top with a balanced foam feel. The comfort layer’s plushness encourages sleepers to relax and creates a slow-moving feel.

It is worth noting that the Helix Moonlight, despite its softness, offers a lively sensation, especially when contrasted to the Sunset, which is less sensitive.

The Helix Midnight, like Helix Sunset, like Helix Sunset, offers a smooth, even texture and smooth top layer that moves slowly. The Midnight is firmer than the Sunset which allows sleepers to sink a little deeper down into the layer above.

The Helix Dusk is solid and bouncey. This is due to the use of dynamic foam on the upper layer and coils in the supporting layer.

The Helix Twilight, like the Helix Sunset and Midnight, features a slower-moving top. It’s still a sturdy mattress, with the comfort layer being a little more enveloping.

The Helix Dawn, like the Helix Dusk, has a soft, firm and bouncy feel it due to the use of foam that is dynamic (in the layer of comfort) and coils (in the support layer).

Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lbs – 230 lbs

The Helix Midnight (which combines spinal support and pressure reduction) or Helix Dusk (which combines pressure reduction and spinal support) or Helix Dusk are likely to be the preferred choice for back sleepers (which offers firmer spinal support).

Sleeping on the Helix Late at Night (if you prefer a slightly more spongy feeling) or the soft and more pressure-relieving Helix Moonlight or Sunset is the most likely option for side sleepers of average weight.

For stomach sleepers, those with a moderate weight should choose the supportive Helix Twilight or Dawn.

Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230lbs

The Helix Dusk should provide appropriate support for heavyweight back sleepers because it eases pressure while maintaining the alignment of the spine.

The most comfortable models within the Helix range, like Helix Moonlight or Helix Moonlight or Helix Sunset are likely to provide adequate pressure relief for heavy-weight side sleepers.

Heavyweight stomach sleepers however, will most likely go to The Helix Dawn (the firmest mattress in the collection) for the best spinal support.

Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130lbs

There should be a wide range of types available for lightweight back sleepers. The Helix Moonlight, Midnight, and Dusk all provide plenty of support for the spine and various levels of pressure relief to accommodate different styles of sleeping.

Similar to the side sleepers that are lightweight, you can choose from the Helix Midnight, Moonlight, or Sunset and should provide adequate pressure relief while allowing users to customize the level of hardness according to their requirements.

Finally stomach sleepers will appreciate the Helix Twilight and Dawn as the most supportive.

Helix Mattresses Construction

Regarding construction and construction methods, the majority of Helix mattresses are constructed in the same way. Helix mattresses are constructed the same way: They share the same cover, and the same foam comfort layers are laid over individually wrapped coil support layers.

The majority of Helix mattresses, in particular the newest models, come with the SoftTouch Design cover that is flexible, soft and breathable. The design lets air circulate freely throughout the mattress’s top. Additionally, every Helix model is equipped with an extra layer of support that is made of coils individually wrapped and stacked over a high-density base foam which provides the mattress with its overall structure and stability.

The similarities stop there for the most part. The cushions’ comfort layers differ in their density, stiffness, placement and kinds of foam. Additional materials are also offered on certain versions. Let’s take a look at it more closely!.

Helix Sunset

The comfort layer of the Helix Sunset is made up of pressure-relieving Memory Plus Foam, which gives you the slow-moving feeling of memory foam that it is known for. A transition layer composed of Helix Dynamic foam, a foam made of latex that’s larger, more bouncier, and more supportive, is placed beneath that Memory Plus Foam.

Helix Moonlight

While the Sunset’s comfort layer is composed out of Memory Plus Foam, the Helix Midnight’s comfort layer and the transition layer are made from Helix Dynamic Foam. This is another latex-foam option, and the multiple layers of this foam give it a bouncy feel when compared with Helix Sunset. Helix Sunset.

Helix Midnight

Memory Plus Foam is the main comfort layer in the Helix Midnight, and it helps reduce pressure and body shaping. A transition layer of dense high-quality polyfoam is placed beneath that Memory Plus Foam. This layer is quite flexible, meaning that the mattress overall reacts faster to pressure.

Helix Dusk

The Dusk’s main comfort layer is made from Helix Dynamic Foam, a foam substitute made of latex that is bouncy and responsive. The layer is made comprised of Memory Plus Foam sits beneath the Memory Plus Foam layer. (Think of the Dusk’s design as similar to that in the Helix Sunset, but reversed.) Helix Dynamic Foam is layered over Memory Plus Foam to create a bouncy, responsive surface, while Memory Plus Foam offers pressure relief as sleepers sink deeper into the mattress.

Helix Twilight

Helix Twilight, like the Helix Twilight, like the Helix Midnight, has a slow-moving Memory Plus Foam layer above a dense, high-grade polyfoam transition layer. The Memory Plus Foam adds some ease of use, but don’t be taken in by the appearance: this is a firm mattress with less give.

Helix Dawn

Last but not least The Helix Dawn has an Helix dynamic foam comfort layer, which is sandwiched over a dense, high-grade polyfoam transition layer. This combination produces an extremely firm, bouncey, and responsive sleep surface with very little bounce.

Helix Mattresses Performance

We put Helix mattresses through a series of tests. Helix mattresses to a series of tests to find out the performance of these mattresses in key areas such as temperature regulation as well as motion transfer, edge support and much other areas. Continue reading to find out what they did!

Sleeping Hot or Cold

Sleeping Hot or Cold If you’re concerned about overheating, consider purchasing a LUXE version of any mattress.

Motion Transfer

According to our tests certain models are better than other models when it comes to minimizing disturbances over the surface of the mattress. The Helix Sunset, Midnight, and Twilight have the highest level of motion isolation. It’s due there is a slower-moving memory foam at the top of each of these models, it does great job at absorbing motion. These are some of the best mattresses for couples available on the market.

Edge Support

Each Helix mattress provided good edge support throughout the range. When we sat and slept on the edges of each model, we felt comfortable and safe.

Durability

All of the Helix mattresses are constructed with strong coils and high-density foams, ensuring that they will last for a long duration.

Off-Gassing

There was an off-gassing issue from all six Helix mattresses initially. The issue will be gone in a few days, or perhaps sooner.

Noise

We didn’t hear any distinct noise when we moved around on any of these mattresses at the time of our review. Since all of these mattresses have coils, it’s probable that they’ll begin to make noise with time.

Sex

When searching for a sex mattress, a majority of people are concerned about how simple it will be to move positions on the bed. Because all of the Helix mattresses feature coils, they are flexible enough that you can move easily across each. The models that feature memory foam in the top layer (particularly the Helix Sunset, Midnight, and Twilight) might make changing your position a bit harder due to their slower movement.

Information on the Warranty

A 100-night trial of sleep and a 10-year mattress guarantee are provided in each Helix mattress.
