Purple Mattress Review – Our Purple Mattress Hybrid Review 2021

Purple Hybrid mattress offers the same Purple feel as its predecessor, but is more durable and supports your body. Purple Mattress Review

Purple Hybrid mattresses come from the same company that made Hyper-Elastic Pomer and the original Purple bed. Purple actually offers three hybrid beds: the Purple Hybrid and the Purple Hybrid Premier 3 & 4. Below, I will explore the various reasons you may choose one over the others and whether the cost is worth it. Continue reading to learn if a Purple Hybrid is right for your needs.

Purple Hybrid, also known by the Purple 2, measures 11 inches in thickness. It’s firmer than the other models and is suitable for stomach and back sleepers. It is also the most affordable Purple Hybrid model.

The Purple Hybrid Premier (formerly Purple 3) is 12 inches in thickness with a thicker Hyper elastic Polymer comfort layer. It feels a little softer and is a medium-firm weight. Purple Mattress Review

Purple Hybrid Premier 4 Purple Hybrid Hybrid beds are the most expensive. However, it’s 13 inches thick and extra supportive. The Purple Hybrid Premier 4 has a medium to firm profile, which we believe would suit most body types.

First impressions

The Purple Hybrid incorporates purple detailing throughout the bed, a great touch for an avid lover of the color. It has a premium appearance thanks to the fine details on the cover. You can also tell that it is a bit heavier than the Purple flagship mattress. People want to know what the Purple feels like.

It’s totally different from the innerspring mattress in Grandma’s guest room. This bed is an entirely new concept that I believe worked well for the company. Purple Mattress Review

Purple Hybrid mattress firmness & Feel

No matter which model you choose, Purple Hybrid mattresses feel soft and airy but not like foam. Feel the squishy, squared shapes underneath the mattress by running your fingers along its center.

It’s not super noticeable when you’re laying down, it just feels buoyant like you’re floating on your back or laying on a hammock. It’s very supportive due to the thick layer pocketed coils. I’ll explain this further below.

Purple Hybrid 2 simultaneously provides pressure relief and support, while also maintaining a firmer profile. I believe it to be around a medium firm, or 7 on the firmness scale. Although the soft squares won’t press into your hips or shoulders when you lie on your back, my spine and back feel reinforced by the Hyper-Elastic Polymer layer. It’s firmer than the Original Purple mattress.

You might be interested in the Purple Hybrid, but aren’t ready to try out new bedding options. If you are open to the idea of a mattress that relieves pressure from your hips, shoulders, and back, while also making you feel light, this might be a good choice for you. Purple Mattress Review

Purple Hybrid Premier

Although they share the brand’s signature Purple feel, the two higher-level hybrid beds are slightly different because they contain thicker layers Hyper-Elastic Polymer.

Both of them fall in the middle to mid-firm range, or roughly a 6 on our firmness scale. Purple Mattress Review

Construction of Purple Hybrid mattresses

Purple Mattress ReviewPurple Hybrid is available in three models with different Purple Grid gel layers.

The Purple Hybrid has four layers and is approximately 11 inches high. Let’s take a look at the layers of this bed to get an idea of how Purple and Purple are made.

A thin slab about an inch thick of basic foam that supports the thick pocketed coil layer.

To limit motion transfer, the mattress features a thick system of 7.5-inch pocketsed coils that are individually wrapped with fabric. It is the foundation of this mattress’s support.

To neutralize the feeling of the coils within the foundation of the bed, add a thin 1/2 inch of foam.

The Hyper Elastic Polymer brand uses covers that are approximately 2 inches in height. These are laid out in a grid-like pattern. This is the primary layer that distinguishes it from the other two Purple Hybrid mattresses — each mattress has a different thickness of this layer. It provides most of Purple’s comfort.

The dense foam slabs that surround the edges make the sides more sturdy and supportive.

On top is the Purple’s “StretchMax” cover, and just like the name implies, it’s extra-stretchy. I think it feels more breathable than your typical mattress cover and compare the feel more to an athletic antisweat undergarment than a soft cotton top. Purple Mattress Review

Purple Hybrid Premier mattress layers

The two Purple Hybrid Premier beds are the top-tier mattress options from the brand. Really, the only major differences in construction are the top layers.

Purple 3 has a layer 3 in. of Hyper-Elastic Polymer at top; Purple 4 has 4 in.

The Purple Hybrid is softer than these, although they don’t feel any different. Purple Mattress Review

Motion isolation

Motion isolation isn’t something innerspring beds are good at. But with the Purple Hybrid’s pocketsed coils as well as the special material inside, it’s an entirely different story.

I think it’s pretty good at isolating motion, even if it is a super-bouncy bed.

It makes almost no noise and you won’t be able to see your partner on the other side. Purple Mattress Review

Edge support

The Purple Hybrid mattresses are constructed with firm foam around the edges to hold your body up more firmly if you tend to creep towards the side of the bed during the night.

This is why I give the edge support capabilities of this mattress two thumbs up.

Temperature

The other benefit of the Purple Grid besides bouncy comfort would have to be its temperature-regulating abilities. The Purple Grid is not made with any cooling material. Instead, its natural, breathable design makes it one the best mattresses for allowing airflow.

It doesn’t retain heat as memory foam and poly foam might. This makes it attractive to hot sleepers such as me, who require additional cooling. It’s not cold to the touch, but I really don’t feel hot while sleeping on the Purple. Purple Mattress Review

Purple Hybrid’s best sleeping positions and body types

You wouldn’t be able to wear every shirt in your favorite clothing store. The same goes for mattresses.

This is especially true since there are so numerous options. Generally, your perfect mattress comes down to your body type and your favorite position to sleep in. Purple Mattress Review

Position

The main sleeping positions are stomach, back, or side. The Purple Hybrid is best for stomach and back sleepers.

I would recommend the Purple Premier mattresses to side sleepers who really want the Purple Hybrid. They are a little more soft and pressure-relieving that the standard hybrid model, which will make them more beneficial for your sides and shoulders. Purple Mattress Review

Type of body

No matter what your body size, no matter how heavy or light, the Purple Hybrid bed will work for you.

The Purple Hybrid mattresses are great for all body types because they are more supportive than typical foam beds like Nectar or Casper. The mattress has a layer of steel-pocketed coils in the bottom. Steel is much more durable that foam. The difference in how this mattress will hold up over time compared to an all-foam bed will be especially noticeable over the course of 10 years. Purple Mattress Review

Price

The Purple Hybrid bed is more expensive than the original Purple. This is not a good option for those who want to spend as little money as possible on a new mattress. If you’re looking to invest in your night’s sleep, though, it’s very possible you see it as a reasonable price.

Purple Hybrid mattresses come in sizes from twin-XL to California-king. Prices start at $1,299 and go all the way up to $1,899. The bed is not usually discounted, but there may be a promotion for free sheets or pillows.

Purple Hybrid mattresses are made with metal coils and foam that provide support and softness.
