Purple Hybrid mattress firmness and feel
Regardless of the model you get, the Purple Hybrid mattresses are soft and airy without feeling like foam. The purple squares can be felt under your fingertips if you move your hand along the mattress’s center.
It’s not super noticeable when you’re laying down, it just feels buoyant like you’re floating on your back or laying on a hammock. The thick layer pocketsed coils make it really supportive, which I’ll explain below.

Construction of Purple Hybrid mattresses
There are three types of Purple Hybrids, each with a different Purple Grid gel layer thickness.
The Purple Hybrid’s four layers are approximately 11 inches in height and has four layers. Here’s a simple breakdown of the bed’s layers so you get an idea of what makes Purple, Purple:
A thin slab about an inch thick of basic foam that supports the thick pocketed coil layer.
The mattress is made up of thick pockets of coils measuring 7.5 inches in diameter, each wrapped in fabric to limit movement transfer. This is the reason this mattress is so supportive.
A thin half inch of foam to help neutralize any sensations caused by the pockets in the bed’s base.
The Hyper Elastic Polymer brand uses covers that are approximately 2 inches in height. These are laid out in a grid-like pattern. This layer is what distinguishes the Purple Hybrid mattress from the others. Each mattress’s thickness varies. It provides most of Purple’s comfort.
Dense foam slabs surround the edges to give the sides a more solid and stable feel.

Purple Hybrid Premier mattress layers
Two Purple Hybrid Premier mattresses are the best-selling mattress options. Really, the only major differences in construction are the top layers.
The Purple 3 has a 3-inch layer of Hyper-Elastic Polymer at the top, while Purple 4 has 4 inches.

I think it’s pretty good at isolating motion, even if it is a super-bouncy bed.
