Purple Hybrid mattresses have the same Purple feel, but with a more sturdy and supportive construction. Purple Mattress Materials
From the company that gave you Hyper-Elastic Polymer and the original Purple bed comes the big-and-sturdy Purple Hybrid mattresses. Purple offers three varieties of hybrid beds. These are appropriately named Purple Hybrid Premier 3 to Purple Hybrid Premier 4. Below I will explain why you might prefer one to the other and how they compare with the rest. You will find out if Purple Hybrid mattresses are right for you.
Purple Hybrid, also called the Purple 2, is the thinnest hybrid option and measures in at 11 inches. It is also more firm than the other models, making it ideal for stomach or back sleepers. It’s also the most affordable Purple Hybrid Mattress.
The Purple Hybrid Premier, formerly known as Purple 3, is 12 inches thick with a thicker Hyper-Elastic Polymer comfort layer. This makes it feel a bit softer and lands around a medium to medium-firm on the scale. Purple Mattress Materials
Purple Hybrid Premier 4 Purple Hybrid hybrid bed is the most expensive, but it is 13 inches thicker and more supportive than the others. Like the Purple Hybrid Premier 3, it has a medium to medium-firm profile, and we think it would suit all body types.

First impressions
Purple Hybrids feature purple detailing throughout their beds, which is a nice touch for those who are passionate about the color. It has a premium appearance thanks to the fine details on the cover. You can also tell that it is a bit heavier than the Purple flagship mattress. What does the Purple feel like?
It’s certainly not the same innerspring mattress that Grandma used in her guest room. It’s a completely new design for a bed and it ended up working in the company’s favor. Purple Mattress Materials
Purple Hybrid mattress firmness, feel and feel
Purple Hybrid mattress are soft and comfortable, no matter what model you purchase. Feel the squishy, squared shapes underneath the mattress by running your fingers along its center.
While it’s not obvious when you lay down, it feels like you’re floating on the back of a hammock or on your stomach. Though, it’s also really supportive because of the thick layer of pocketed coils, which I’ll explain more below.
The Purple Hybrid 2 simultaneously feels pressure-relieving and supportive, while maintaining a slightly firmer profile; I think it’s around a medium-firm, or 7 out of 10 on the firmness scale. The soft squares of the Purple Hybrid 2 don’t push against your hips and shoulders like a regular firm bed. However, I feel my back and spine are reinforced by Hyper-ElasticPolymer. I like it a bit more firm than the Original Purple.
You might be interested in the Purple Hybrid, but aren’t ready to try out new bedding options. The Purple Hybrid might be for you if it offers a mattress feel that is both supportive and light on the hips, shoulders and back. Purple Mattress Materials
Purple Hybrid Premier
The brand’s two upper-level hybrid beds have the same signature Purple feel, but they have a slightly softer profile because of their thicker layers of Hyper-Elastic Polymer.
Both of them fall in the middle to mid-firm range, or roughly a 6 on our firmness scale. Purple Mattress Materials
Purple Hybrid mattress construction
Purple Hybrid comes as three different models. Each model has a different thickness Purple Grid gel layer.
The Purple Hybrid has four layers and is approximately 11 inches high. Here is a basic breakdown of the layers in the Purple Hybrid so that you can get an understanding of what makes Purple, Purple.
A thin slab of basic foam about an inch thick, which supports the thick pocketed coil layer above.
To limit motion transfer, the mattress features a thick system of 7.5-inch pocketsed coils that are individually wrapped with fabric. It is the foundation of this mattress’s support.
A thin half an inch of foam to help neutralize the feel of the pocketed coils in the bed’s foundation.
The Hyper Elastic Polymer brand uses covers that are approximately 2 inches in height. These are laid out in a grid-like pattern. This is the main layer that differentiates it from the Purple Hybrid mattress. Each mattress has a different thickness. It’s bouncy, squishy, soft and provides most of the Purple’s comfort.
To give the sides more support and stability, dense foam slabs are placed around the edges.
Purple’s StretchMax (or Extra-Stretchy) cover can be found on the top. It’s more breathable than any standard mattress cover. You can compare the feel to a soft cotton top or an athletic antisweat shirt. Purple Mattress Materials

Purple Hybrid Premier mattress layers
The two Purple Hybrid Premier beds are the top-tier mattress options from the brand. The only difference in construction is the top layers.
The Purple 3 has a 3-inch layer of Hyper-Elastic Polymer at the top, while Purple 4 has 4 inches.
They are slightly softer than the Purple Hybrid, although it doesn’t make much difference in feel. Purple Mattress Materials
Motion isolation
Motion isolation isn’t usually an innerspring bed’s forte, but with the pocketed coils and special material you find in the Purple Hybrid, it’s a different story.
I think it’s pretty good at isolating motion, even if it is a super-bouncy bed.
It is almost silent and your partner will not be able hear you. Purple Mattress Materials
Edge support
Purple Hybrid mattress are made with firm foam around edges to keep your body upright if you find yourself slipping towards the side of bed at night.
This mattress has edge support capabilities that I am happy to give two thumbs up.
Temperature
The other benefit of the Purple Grid besides bouncy comfort would have to be its temperature-regulating abilities. The Purple Grid is not made with any cooling material. Instead, its natural, breathable design makes it one the best mattresses for allowing airflow.
It doesn’t retain heat the way memory foam or polyfoam might. This makes it appealing to hot sleeping people like me who want additional cooling. The Purple is not cold to my skin, but it doesn’t make me feel hot. Purple Mattress Materials
Purple Hybrids’ ideal sleeping positions & body types
You wouldn’t expect that you would fit into every size shirt at your favorite clothes store.
You have so many options. The best mattress for you will depend on your body type and the position that you prefer to sleep in. Purple Mattress Materials
Position
There are three main sleeping positions: side, stomach or back. The Purple Hybrid is best for stomach and back sleepers.
If you are a side sleeper, the Purple Hybrid mattress would be a good choice. They are slightly more comfortable and relieve pressure than the standard hybrid mattress, which will be a plus for your shoulders. Purple Mattress Materials
Type of body
No matter your body type, no matter if you are 105 lbs or 250 lbs, the Purple Hybrid Beds will suit you perfectly.
Purple Hybrid mattresses can be used by all body types as they are more supportive of traditional foam beds like Casper or Nectar. The mattress has a layer of steel-pocketed coils in the bottom. Steel is much more durable that foam. It will be noticeable how the mattress will perform over the years compared with an all foam mattress. Purple Mattress Materials
Price
The Purple Hybrid is more costly than the original Purple and may not be the best choice for those looking to spend as low as possible on a bed. The Purple Hybrid is a good choice if your goal is to invest in your evening’s sleep.
Purple Hybrid mattresses are available in sizes ranging from twin XL to California King. Prices start at $1299 and go up to $1899. While they do not typically offer discounts on this mattress, they may have a promotional offer that gives you free sheets or pillows.
Purple Hybrid mattresses have metal coils that are encased with foam for support and softness.
