Helix Mattress Firmness and Feel

It’s likely that stiffness was already mentioned within this list. This is because one of the most crucial elements to consider when shopping for a new mattress is firmness (and how firmness affects the comfort). These factors will tell you a lot about a mattress’s ability to accommodate your preferred sleep place (s). Let’s review of the firmness and feel in the Helix mattress series.

What Is the Firmness of Helix Mattresses?

The Helix mattresses are available in a variety of hardness options, with the softest being moderately soft and the most firm ones being moderately firm. Its Helix Sunset is on the soft side of the spectrum and we evaluated it with a score of 5.5 out of 10 in the firmness scale. (A 6.5/10 is the industry standard for moderate firmness.) The Helix Midnight is next, and we gave it a 6/10 that means it’s more soft than the norm. Helix Dusk and the Helix Midnight as well as the Helix Dusk are in the middle of the spectrum. Both of these mattresses received a rating of around 7/10, which is slightly firmer than normal. The Helix Twilight as well as the Helix Dawn are at the harder end of the spectrum with both receiving a 7.5/10 assessment (firmer than the average).

It’s important to remember that hardness is a personal preference. If you’re looking for the firmness of the mattress, you can evaluate these mattresses in different ways based on your weight and preferences. Heavier persons, for example could find the mattresses more firm as they can push deeper into the mattress and reach into the support layers. However, those who are lighter may be surprised to find these mattresses softer since they are higher on the comfort level of each bed(s).

Sleeping on the Helix Mattresses

We slept on the Helix beds for an lengthy period of time in order to gain an idea of what it’s like rest on each model in different positions. Check out the results!

Helix Sunset Mattress

Helix Mattress SaggingDue to its softness, the Helix Sunset didn’t feel nearly comfortable enough to be a good back sleeper. Our hips were a bit too deep down into our mattress which caused the spine to be misaligned.

Although the Helix Sunset’s gentleness isn’t the best for back sleepers but it’s great for those who sleep on their sides. We were very at ease in this position due to the mattress’s softness helped cushion any stress points around the hip and shoulder. In fact, it’s one of the greatest mattresses for hip discomfort that we’ve come across.

It is apparent that the Helix Sunset is not supportive enough for stomach-sleeping due to its softness. Our hips sank too deeply into the mattress, pulling the back out of position, exactly the way they did when were asleep back.

Helix Moonlight Mattress

helix-moonlightAs a back sleeper in a back position, the Helix Moonlight was adequate but not outstanding. If you plan on sleeping in this position all night, you’ll probably require a mattress that provides additional support and helps maintain an appropriate spine alignment.

The Helix Moonlight is an excellent choice for side sleeping because of its comfort. There was no unwelcome pressure around the hip or shoulder.

It is the Helix Moonlight, like the Helix Sunset, isn’t supportive enough for stomach sleeping. Our hips fell too deeply in the mattress leading the spine to be out of alignment.

Helix Midnight Mattress

Helix Midnight Luxe FeatureWhen we lay down on the Helix Midnight and feeling fantastic, we were able to feel great. We enjoyed a touch of pressure alleviation without sacrificing spine alignment due to the mattress’s good balance of support and comfort. It’s the most comfortable mattress for back sleepers that we have reviewed on this list.

Although the Helix Midnight is more firm that Helix Sunset and Moonlight, it is still a good mattress. Helix Sunset as well as Moonlight and Moonlight, we discovered it to be comfortable to sleep on our backs on the mattress. It is a good pressure-relief mattress between the hip and shoulder according to our experience.

As we lay on our stomachs in the Helix Midnight, we felt good , but not fantastic. People who sleep in this posture all night long should look for an extra firm mattress that offers greater spinal support.

Helix Dusk Mattress

helix-duskIt’s the Helix Dusk is more supportive than other mattresses we’ve tested, which may be the reason we felt so good while resting upon our backs. We’re sure that we’ll be able to maintain good spinal alignment throughout the night due to the mattress’s suppleness.

It’s probably not surprising it is that Helix Dusk feels a little too soft for sleeping on your side since we’ve shifted to the firmer end on the scale. There was some discomfort around the hip and shoulder area that would create a lot of discomfort if you slept in this position all night.

The Helix Dusk should suit stomach sleepers with a normal weight because it will help them maintain appropriate spinal alignment. However, stomach sleepers with heavier weights may not find enough support here.

Helix Twilight Mattress

helix-twilightThe Helix Twilight was proved to be the ideal bed for back discomfort. It’s the ideal mattress for back sleepers who require more support due to increased weight or back pain, as well as other reasons. The firmer construction of this mattress helps in keeping hips lifted and in alignment with the spine.

Since this mattress Helix Twilight is on the firmer side We found it hard to lay on our backs on this mattress. We felt like we were suffocated on the hips and shoulders.

The majority of stomach sleepers will find the Helix Twilight mattress to be a good fit, since the mattress’s firmness should provide enough of spinal support in this position.

Helix Dawn Mattress

helix-dawnBack sleepers who like a firm mattress will appreciate the Helix Dawn’s superior level of support. But, those who want some pressure relief while lying on their backs may likely find this mattress to be excessively firm.

It’s the Helix Dawn is far too hard for side sleeping and you’ll be left with a lot of pressure points in your hip and shoulder. One of the softer types is much better for those who sleep on their sides.

The Helix Dawn Mattress is one of the greatest mattress for stomach sleepers in our opinions. In the evening, this firm and supportive mattress helps keep the hips elevated and in alignment to the spinal column.

What Do the Helix Mattresses Feel Like?

Helix mattresses are all hybrid design that incorporates foam over coils. However, despite these similarities, each Helix mattress has its own distinct individuality.

The Helix Sunset offers a soft top and a balanced foam feel. The soft comfort layer allows sleepers to feel comfortable and provides the mattress with a slow-moving feel.

The Helix Moonlight, despite its softness, offers a lively feeling, particularly when compared to the Sunset that is more sensitive.

The Helix Midnight similar to the Helix Sunset, has a smooth, even texture and smooth top layer that moves slowly. The Midnight is firmer than the Sunset and allows sleepers to sink further in the upper layer.

The Helix Dusk is solid and lively. This is due to the use of high-performance foam for the layer on top, and coils in the supporting layer.

It is similar to the Helix Twilight, like the Helix Sunset and Midnight, is characterized by a slower-moving top. It’s still a sturdy mattress, even though the comfort layer is a little more enveloping.

Helix Dawn, like the Helix Dawn, like the Helix Dusk, has a firm, bouncy feel to it due to the use of foam that is dynamic (in the cushion layer) along with coils (in the support layer).

Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lbs – 230 lbs

The Helix Midnight (which combines spinal support and pressure reduction) and the Helix Dusk are likely to be preferred by back sleepers (which offers firmer spinal support).

The Helix Midnight (if you prefer a slightly more spongy feeling) or the softer and more pressure-relieving Helix Moonlight and Sunset are the most likely option for people who are average-weight side sleepers.

The stomach sleepers who are of moderate weight should consider the supporting Helix Twilight or Dawn.

Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230lbs

It is recommended that the Helix Dusk should provide appropriate support for those who are heavy-weight back sleepers because it eases pressure while maintaining spinal alignment.

The most soft models of the Helix range, like the Helix Moonlight or Helix Sunset, should provide sufficient of pressure relief for heavyweight side sleepers.

Heavyweight stomach sleepers On the other hand are likely to move to Helix Dawn. Helix Dawn (the firmest mattress in the collection) to ensure proper spinal support.

Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130lbs

There ought to be a range of types available for lightweight back sleepers. The Helix Moonlight, Midnight, and Dusk all provide plenty of support for the spine and various degrees of pressure relief that can accommodate different styles of sleeping.

In the same way, side sleepers who are light can choose from the Helix Midnight, Moonlight, or Sunset that should all give adequate pressure relief with the ability to alter the hardness level to their requirements.

Finally, stomach sleepers will find Helix Twilight or Dawn to be the most supportive. Helix Twilight or Dawn as the most comfortable.

Helix Mattresses Construction

As far as construction is concerned, each of Helix mattresses are constructed in the same way. Helix mattresses are constructed in the same way. They all have the same cover and the foam comfort layers are laid over individually wrapped the coils to support them.

All Helix mattresses, including the newest models, come with a SoftTouch Design cover that is flexible, soft and air-tight. The design lets air flow freely across the mattress’s top. Additionally, every Helix model has a support layer made up of individually wrapped coils that are stacked over a dense base foam which provides the mattress with it’s overall design and support.

The similarities stop there for the most part. The cushions’ comfort layers differ in the thickness, stiffness, arrangement and the types of foam. Additional materials are also available on some versions. Let’s take a take a closer look!.

Helix Sunset

Its cushion of comfort is made of pressure-relieving Memory Plus Foam, which offers the slower-moving feel that memory foam is known for. A layer of transition made up comprised of Helix Dynamic foam, a latex-foam replacement that’s more firm, bouncier and more bolstering, sits beneath that Memory Plus Foam.

Helix Moonlight

While the Helix Sunset’s top comfort layer is composed out of Memory Plus Foam, the Helix Midnight’s main comfort layer and the transition layer are made from the Helix Dynamic Foam. It is a different latex-foam alternative and the numerous layers of this foam give it a bouncy feel when compared with the Helix Sunset.

Helix Midnight

Memory Plus Foam is the principal comfort layer of the Helix Midnight, and it offers pressure reduction as well as body shaping. A transition layer of dense, high-grade polyfoam sits underneath that Memory Plus Foam. The layer is extremely responsive, which means that the mattress overall reacts faster to pressure.

Helix Dusk

The Helix Dusk’s primary comfort layer is constructed from Helix Dynamic Foam, a foam substitute made of latex that is bouncy and receptive. A layer composed of Memory Plus Foam sits beneath this layer. (Think of Dusk’s structure as similar to the one from Helix Sunset’s construction. Helix Sunset, but reversed.) Helix Dynamic Foam has been laid on top of Memory Plus Foam to produce a bouncy smooth surface. Memory Plus Foam offers pressure relief as sleepers sink into the mattress.

Helix Twilight

Helix Twilight, like the Helix Twilight, like the Helix Midnight, has a slow-moving Memory Plus Foam layer above an extremely dense and high-grade polyfoam transition layer. The Memory Plus Foam adds some comfort, but don’t be fooled: this is an extremely firm mattress that has very little give.

Helix Dawn

Last but not least, the Helix Dawn has a Helix dynamic foam comfort layer layered over a high-quality, dense polyfoam transition layer. This creates a firm, bouncy, and responsive sleep surface with very little bounce.

Helix Mattresses Performance

We tested our Helix mattresses to a series of tests to determine their performance in key areas like temperature regulation and motion transfer, edge support and much other areas. Continue reading to find out what they did!

Sleeping Hot or Cold

Do you feel hot or cold when sleeping? If you’re concerned about overheating, consider purchasing a LUXE version of your mattress.

Motion Transfer

Based on our testing certain models are better than other models when it comes to minimising disturbances to the mattress’s surface. It was found that the Helix Sunset, Midnight, and Twilight provided the best motion-seclusion. That’s because to the slower-moving memory foam at the top of each of these models, it does great job at absorption of motion. These are among the top mattresses for couples on the market.

Edge Support

Every Helix mattress provided an excellent edge support throughout the range. As we sat and fell asleep at the edge of each model, we felt comfortable and safe.

Durability

The Helix mattresses are made from high-density foams and robust coils, ensuring that they will last for a long time.

Off-Gassing

We noticed some off-gassing from the six Helix mattresses at first. This will go away in a few days, or perhaps sooner.

Noise

We didn’t hear any distinct sound when moving around on any of these mattresses during the time of our review. However, because all of them have coils, it’s possible that they’ll start to sound squeaky with time.

Sex

If you are looking for a sexual mattress, most individuals are worried about how easy it will be to shift positions on the mattress. Since all Helix mattresses have coils, they are sufficient that you can move around with ease on any of them. The models that have memory foam in their top layers (particularly, those that have memory foam in the top layer (such as Helix Sunset, Midnight, and Twilight) might make changing positions a little more difficult because of their slow motion.

Information on the Warranty

A 100-night sleep trial and a 10-year mattress guarantee are included in each Helix mattress.
