Helix Mattress Firmness and Feel

It’s likely that stiffness has already been discussed within this list. That’s because one of the most crucial elements to consider when buying for the best mattress is its firmness (and how firmness affects comfort). These elements will reveal the bed’s ability to accommodate your preferred bed place (s). Let’s take a closer look at the quality and firmness of the Helix mattress range.

What Is the Firmness of Helix Mattresses?

The Helix mattresses are available in a range of different hardness options, with the softest being moderately soft and the most firm being quite firm. Its Helix Sunset is on the softer end of the range and we evaluated it with a score of 5.5 /10 on the scale of firmness. (A 6.5/10 is the standard industry norm for moderate firmness.) Its Helix Midnight is next, and we gave it a score of 6/10 which means that it’s less firm than average. Helix Dusk and the Helix Midnight as well as the Helix Dusk sit somewhere between the spectrum. Both of these mattresses received a rating of around 7/10 which is slightly heavier than average. They are Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn are at the firmer side of the spectrum, with both getting the 7.5/10 assessment (firmer than the average).

It’s crucial to be aware that the degree of firmness is a individual preference. If you’re looking for the firmness, you could rate these mattresses differently depending on your body weight and personal preferences. For instance, heavier people could find the mattresses more firm as they can push further into the mattress and reach into the support layers. On the other hand, people who weigh less discover that these mattresses are less firm due to the fact that they are located higher in the comfort layer of each bed(s).

Sleeping on the Helix Mattresses

We slept on the Helix mattresses for a long period of time in order to gain an accurate picture of what it’s like to lie on the models in different positions. Check out what we found!

Helix Sunset Mattress

Is Helix Mattress SafetyDue to its softness, the Helix Sunset didn’t feel nearly comfortable enough to be a good back sleeper. The hips of ours sink a little too far in the bed, causing the spine to become misaligned.

Although the Helix Sunset’s gentleness isn’t ideal for back sleepers, it’s ideal for side sleepers. We felt very relaxed in this position as the mattress’s softness cushioned any tension points in the hip and shoulder. In fact, it’s one of the greatest mattresses for hip pain we’ve seen.

It is apparent that the Helix Sunset is not supportive enough for stomach sleep due it is soft. Our hips sank too deeply into the mattress, pulling the spinal column out of its alignment, exactly like they did when we were asleep back.

Helix Moonlight Mattress

helix-moonlightAs a back sleeper in a back position, it was apparent that the Helix Moonlight was adequate but not outstanding. If you’re planning on sleeping in this position all night, you’ll probably require a mattress with additional support and helps maintain appropriate spinal alignment.

It is the Helix Moonlight is an excellent choice for side sleeping due to its softness. We didn’t feel any uncomfortable tension around the shoulder or hip.

It is the Helix Moonlight, like the Helix Sunset, is not sufficient for stomach sleep. Our hips sank too deeply in the mattress which caused the spine to shift.

Helix Midnight Mattress

Helix Midnight Luxe FeatureWhen we lay down on the Helix Midnight and feeling fantastic, we were able to feel great. We felt a little pressure relief, but without losing spinal alignment , thanks to the mattress’s good balance of support and comfort. It is the greatest mattress for back sleepers on this list.

Even though the Helix Midnight is more firm than Helix Sunset and Moonlight, it is still a good mattress. Helix Sunset or Moonlight We discovered it to be comfortable to sleep on our backs on this mattress. It is a good pressure-relief mattress around the shoulder and hip according to our experience.

As we lay on our stomachs in the Helix Midnight, we felt good but not great. Sleepers who are in this posture throughout the night should consider a firmer mattress that provides more spinal support.

Helix Dusk Mattress

helix-duskThe Helix Dusk is more supportive than other mattresses we’ve tried, which could explain why we felt so at ease while sleeping on our backs. We’re certain that we’ll enjoy an ideal spinal alignment throughout the night because of the mattress’s suppleness.

It’s probably not surprising that the Helix Dusk feels a little too firm for a side sleeper considering that we’ve moved to the firmer end of the spectrum. We felt some pressure around the hip and shoulder that could create a lot of discomfort if you sleep in this position for the entire night.

The Helix Dusk should suit stomach sleepers with a normal weight, as it should assist to maintain a healthy spine alignment. However, stomach sleepers with heavier weights might not get sufficient support in this model.

Helix Twilight Mattress

helix-twilightThe Helix Twilight was proved to be the best mattress for back pain. It is ideal for those who require more support due to weight gain or back pain, as well as other factors. The more firm construction of this mattress helps in keeping the hips elevated and properly aligned with the spine.

Since the Helix Twilight is more firm than the average mattress, we found it difficult to lie on our backs on this mattress. We felt suffocated in the hips and shoulders.

For most stomach sleepers, the Helix Twilight to be an ideal fit, since the mattress’s firmness should give enough spinal support for this type of position.

Helix Dawn Mattress

helix-dawnBack sleepers who favor mattresses that are firm will appreciate the Helix Dawn’s high level of support. However, those who like an occasional relief from pressure when resting on their backs may likely find this mattress to be too firm.

The Helix Dawn is far too difficult to sleep on side, and you’ll end up with lots of pressure points in your shoulder and hip. One of the softer types is much better for those who sleep on their sides.

It is the Helix Dawn Mattress is one of the most comfortable mattresses for stomach-sleepers in our opinion. Through the night, this firm and supportive mattress helps keep the hips elevated and in alignment to the spinal column.

What Do the Helix Mattresses Feel Like?

Helix mattresses have a hybrid design that incorporates foam over coils. However, despite these similarities every model has its own distinct personality.

The Helix Sunset offers a soft top and a balanced foam feel. The plush comfort layer encourages sleepers to relax and provides the mattress with a slow-moving feel.

The Helix Moonlight, despite its softness, has a bouncy sensation, particularly when compared with the Sunset, which is less sensitive.

The Helix Midnight similar to it’s predecessor, the Helix Sunset, has a balanced feel and a smooth top layer that moves slowly. The Midnight is firmer than the Sunset which allows sleepers to sink a little deeper in the upper layer.

The Helix Dusk is solid and lively. This is due to the use high-performance foam on the upper layer and coils in the layer supporting it.

It is similar to the Helix Twilight, like the Helix Sunset and Midnight, features a slower-moving top. It’s still a sturdy mattress, with the comfort layer being a little more enveloping.

Helix Dawn, like the Helix Dawn, like the Helix Dusk, has a bouncy, firm feel to it because of the use of foam that is dynamic (in the cushion layer) and coils (in the support layer).

The Helix Midnight (which combines spinal support and pressure relief) and The Helix Dusk are likely to be preferred by back sleepers (which gives a firmer spinal support).

The stomach sleepers who are with a moderate weight should choose the supportive Helix Twilight or Dawn.

Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230lbs

It is recommended that the Helix Dusk should provide appropriate support for heavyweight back sleepers, as it relieves pressure while maintaining spinal alignment.

Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130lbs

There should be a wide range of models for light back sleepers: The Helix Moonlight, Midnight, and Dusk all have lots of spinal support as well as different levels of pressure relief to accommodate various sleeping styles.

Similarly, lightweight side sleepers can select from Helix Midnight, Moonlight, or Sunset that should all give adequate pressure relief while allowing users to customize the level of hardness to suit their requirements.

Finally stomach sleepers will discover Helix Twilight or Dawn to be the most supportive. Helix Twilight or Dawn as the most supportive.

Helix Mattresses Construction

Regarding construction and construction methods, the majority of all of the Helix mattresses are built in the same way: They have the same cover, and the same foam comfort layers are layered above individually wrapped supports for coils.

Every Helix mattresses, and in particular they have a SoftTouch Design cover that is soft, elastic, and air-tight. This allows air to flow freely across the top of the mattress. Meanwhile, each Helix model has an additional layer of support made of individually wrapped coils stacked over a dense base foam that gives the mattress it’s overall design and stability.

The similarities stop there for the most part. The comfort layers of these mattresses differ in their density, stiffness, placement, and types of foam. Other materials are offered on certain versions. Let’s look at it more closely!.

Helix Sunset

Its cushion of comfort is made of pressure-reducing Memory Plus Foam, which gives you the slow-moving feeling of memory foam that it is known for. A layer of transition made up from Helix Dynamic foam, a foam made of latex that’s more firm, bouncier and more supportive, is placed under the Memory Plus Foam.

Helix Moonlight

While the Helix Sunset’s top layer of comfort is composed out of Memory Plus Foam, the Helix Midnight’s comfort layer and the transition layer is made of Helix Dynamic Foam. It is a different latex-foam alternative, and the multiple layers of this dynamic foam give it a bouncy feeling when compared to Helix Sunset. Helix Sunset.

Helix Midnight

Memory Plus Foam is the primary comfort layer of the Helix Midnight, and it offers pressure reduction as well as body shaping. A transition layer of thick high-quality polyfoam is placed underneath the Memory Plus Foam. This layer is very responsive, which means that the mattress as a whole responds more quickly to pressure.

Helix Dusk

The main comfort layer is made up from Helix Dynamic Foam, a latex-foam substitute that’s bouncy and responsive. The layer is made of Memory Plus Foam sits beneath the Memory Plus Foam layer. (Think of the Dusk’s structure as being identical to that in that of the Helix Sunset, but reversed.) Helix Dynamic Foam is laid over Memory Plus Foam to produce a bouncy and responsive surface. Memory Plus Foam helps relieve pressure when sleepers lie down on the mattress.

Helix Twilight

It’s the Helix Twilight, like the Helix Midnight, has a slow-moving Memory Plus Foam layer above the dense, high-quality polyfoam layer that acts as a transition. The Memory Plus Foam adds some comfort, but don’t be taken in by the appearance: this is a mattress that is firm with very little give.

Helix Dawn

Last but not least The Helix Dawn features a Helix Comfort Layer made of Dynamic Foam, which is sandwiched over a high-quality, dense polyfoam layer transition layer. This creates a firm, bouncy, and responsive sleep surface with very minimal give.

Helix Mattresses Performance

We tested the Helix mattresses through a series of tests to see their performance in key areas such as temperature control as well as edge support, motion transfer and many more. Continue reading to find out the results!

Sleeping Hot or Cold

Do you feel hot or cold when sleeping? If you’re worried about overheating, consider purchasing a LUXE version of any mattress.

Motion Transfer

According to our tests certain models are better than other models when it comes to minimizing disturbances over your mattress’s top. The Helix Sunset, Midnight, and Twilight offered the most effective motion isolation. This is due to the slower-moving memory foam close to the top of each of the models, which do great job at absorbing motion. These are some of the top mattresses for couples that are available on the market.

Edge Support

Every Helix mattress had an excellent edge support across the board. When we sat and slept at the edge of each model, we felt comfortable and safe.

Durability

The Helix mattresses are constructed with strong coils and high-density foams which ensure that they can last for a long period of.

Off-Gassing

There was an off-gassing issue from all six Helix mattresses at first. This will go away in a few days, if not sooner.

Noise

We didn’t hear any distinct sound when moving around on any of these mattresses during the time we wrote our review. But, since all of them have coils, it’s likely that they’ll start to sound squeaky over time.

Sex

If you are looking for a sexual mattress, most people are concerned about how easy it is to change places on their mattress. Because all of the Helix mattresses feature coils, they are sufficient that you can move around easily on any of them. The models with memory foam on the top layer (particularly, the Helix Sunset, Midnight, and Twilight) might make changing positions more difficult due to their slow motion.

Information on the Warranty

A 100-night trial of sleep and 10 years of mattress warranty are provided with each Helix mattress.
