Which is the best kind of mattress?

The simple answer is that there’s not a single best type of mattress. Why? Because everybody is different, so the right type for you is dependent on your body, wellbeing and the way you sleep. It’s also because the differences between different types of mattress are increasingly negligible. Materials have advanced so much in the past five years alone that it’s difficult to discern any significant difference when you’re sleeping on mattresses.

It’s a great thing as it means that you’ll be able to choose any of the options in our best mattress guide and be extremely content whatever it is, regardless of whether the mattress was constructed from copper-infused memory foam, coils, cooling latex, or a cutting-edge blend of all-natural substances.

But, it’s useful to know the different types of mattresses before making your final choice. With that in mind this article will walk you through the most popular options, while highlighting the main differences between them… Helix Vs Layla Mattress

Memory foam mattresses

It is the Nectar Memory Foam mattress has three inches of gel memory foam. Memory foam is a great choice for those who want to feel ‘hugged’ with their bed. This material contours to your body, offering greater pressure relief than spring-based options and excels in absorption of motion. This alone makes it a top option for people who share an uneasy bed with a companion (but not the best option in case you like bouncing in your mattress – you’ll need an innerspring or hybrid instead).

One of the main advantages that memory foam has is that you get sunk into it. This is what provides the superior cushioning. As with any all-foam mattress the material is dense and can feel warmer at night than other mattresses. But, the most effective memory foam mattresses today are packed with special cooling materials that are designed to regulate your temperature during sleep. Helix Vs Layla Mattress

Innerspring mattresses

Saatva’s most popular innerspring mattress, the Saatva Classic, comes with three firmness levels. (Image source: Saatva) Innerspring mattress use a coil-based support system to offer comfort and stability. The size, quantity and style of the coils can vary and whereas traditionally, innerspring mattresses were made using interconnected coils, the term is now used to refer to pocket spring mattresses.

They are made up of individually wrapped coils that sit inside their own fabric pocket and can move independently – offering improved pressure relief, more comfort and more effective motion isolation. Generally speaking, the more pocket springs you have in your mattress the better the support. Additionally, you can choose one of the top mattress toppers to instantly add an additional layer of support and ease.

One key difference between innerspring mattresses and all-foam alternatives is that they’re buoyant. you can sleep over them, rather than sinking into them. This is a good thing for hot sleepers, as it means your body heat won’t be trapped by the mattress. Additionally, springs permit greater air circulation, unlike the dense foam. Innerspring mattresses also have more bounce than the all-foam alternatives, and can be cheaper. Helix Vs Layla Mattress

Hybrid mattresses

Hybrids, such as Dreamcloud bring you the best of both worlds: you benefit from the tailored comfort of memory foam gel or latex, while also getting the slight bounce and the increased airflow that springs provide. The coils of hybrid mattresses tend to be smaller, but you’ll typically (but often not) have a thinner the memory foam.

Many of the best mattresses are hybrid. They’re a versatile option that can be a great compromise for couples with different sleep preferences, and they’re also a good choice for hot sleepers who appreciate the cushioned feel of foam. Helix Vs Layla Mattress

Latex mattresses

Plushbeds is a product made of GOLS organically certified latex that comes from co-owned farmers of the company’s’ collectives. Latex mattresses are made of a highly robust latex foam that is made of natural materials instead of synthetic substances (which the memory foam mattresses made of). If you’re looking for an organic and durable mattress, then latex is the ideal mattress material for you.

It’s not as thick than memory foam which makes latex mattresses less prone to overheating. Latex also provides good contouring and bounce. In addition the incredible durability makes latex a fantastic option for those who want their mattress to last however, it’s not inexpensive! Helix Vs Layla Mattress

How can I determine the right mattress size?

A good rule of thumb for selecting the correct size mattress is to ensure that it’s at least 10cm higher than the highest person who sleeps on it. If you’re sharing a bed, you and your partner should be able to put your hands under your head, without elbows touching. If you sleep alone and you’re not sharing a bed, you’ll be able to get the size mattress if you are able to place your hands beneath your head and not touch the edge of your mattress. Therefore, measure the distance and as long as you choose a mattress that’s wider than that, you’re good.

Most of the options listed in our best mattress guide are available in twin, twin XL, full queen, king, and California king sizes. There are some that come with split options too, which enable you to choose a different mattress firmness to your partner. You can also find mattresses that have a different degree of firmness on both sides (soft to one, and firm on the other).

In general, the larger and deeper the mattress, the more expensive. The majority of twin mattresses are a few hundred dollars less than queen-sized, however, the king and California King sizes typically cost around $200 more than the queen size. Hybrid mattresses, luxurious and premium versions typically are more expensive than the basic/original mattresses that are listed.

How do I know the correct mattress firmness?

Medium firm is always the most sought-after mattress and that’s the reason why most premium mattresses fall within the range of 7 to 10 on the scale of firmness (10 is the firmness).

However, mattresses are subjective. The firmness and comfort of a mattress is determined by a wide range of factors, including your weight of your body, your height, body shape and sleeping style, temperature and whether you are experiencing any discomfort, for example, hips or back. That means that a individual’s experience on a mattress is likely to be different from the experience of a different person. Also, whether you would prefer a more soft or more firm mattress is dependent on your personal preference.

(That’s the reason we have various people to test our mattresses – and that’s why we read thousands of user reviews. Be aware of this when looking at our ‘firmness gauge’, which ranges from 1 to 10, with 10 being the firmest . You might find a mattress to be slightly firmer or softer than we’ve seen it.) Nevertheless, there is general advice to consider what degree of mattress firmness may be most at ease with…

1. Take note of your preferred position for sleeping. Back sleepers usually benefit from a medium-firm mattress. This is the best of both and provides a neutral spine alignment while supporting the hips and shoulders however, without placing too many pressures on them. If the mattress feels too firm, back sleepers could find their spine developing an uncomfortable U-shape and this can cause strain. If it’s too hard, the natural curve of ‘S’ of your spine won’t be properly supported.

Side sleepers require pressure relief on their hips and shoulders and for their body’s contours to be properly supported. A medium to medium-soft mattress is usually a good choice. If it’s too firm, though it’s not aligning the spine properly with the hips and shoulders. Memory foam is typically the best mattress choice for sleepers on the side because of its superior contouring properties.

People who sleep on their sides tend to do better when they sleep on a mattress with more firmness. This can help lift the hips so that they are in alignment with the spine, and stops the spine from developing the shape of a U. If the hips are too stiff, it’ll be uncomfortable – especially for women, and can hinder the spine from being able to curve naturally. It’s too soft and you’ll appear to be suffocating. Hybrid and innerspring mattresses may be better than foam for front sleepers.

Sleepers who are a combination should select the one that best suits their sleep position (the position that you typically sleep in). If you don’t have one a mattress that is medium firm can provide the most comfort and support across all sleeping positions.

2. Be aware of your body’s weight. Sleepers with a weight of less than 130lbs won’t sink as deep into the mattress, and could be well-suited to softer options as a result – between 2 to 4 on the firmness scale. But a mattress that is medium-firm is also a good choice.

The 130-230 pound range of people are often better-suited to medium and medium-firm mattresses, between 5 and 7 on the scale of firmness.

Sleepers with a heavier weight of over 300lbs are ideally suited to mattress that are firmer, with an 8-10 rating. This will prevent them sinking through the different levels of comfort.

3. Take advantage of the risk-free trial to sleep. It could take as long as the span of three weeks body’s body to adjust to the new mattress. That’s especially true if your mattress was not supporting your body well, so don’t believe that if you first feel sore, that it’s due to a mattress change. isn’t right It could be due to your body adjusting to more support. Most mattress trials specify that you stay for a minimum of 21 days, for this reason.

In addition to how the mattresses feels like, there’s also a quick method to determine if the mattress is the right firmness for your needs. Relax and place your hand in the small of your back: if there’s a huge gap, the mattress is too firm If there’s no gaps, it’s too soft.

How long does it take to adjust the mattress?

It’s dependent on the type of mattress you are buying and the firmness however, generally speaking, it could take anything from 30 days to three months to adjust in the latest levels of support and comfort. That’s why some mattress makers ask you to sleep on the mattress for at least 30 days before they’ll schedule a collection in the event that you aren’t happy with it.

If you’re considering a different mattress than the one you have previously owned – as an example, perhaps you used to sleep on a foam mattress but you want to buy a hybrid mattress – you’ll be able to tell the difference for a longer. To help you break in your new mattress, ensure that you allow it the time needed to completely decompress. If you can do this, your mattress will give the best support and comfort from the beginning. It could take between a couple of hours and 72 hours to complete this process and so, be patient.

You can relax on various parts of your mattress (so don’t just sit on the same spot) and continue to sleep on it to help it ‘bed in’ faster. Make sure you don’t sleep in another mattress (if you have the option)) or on the sofa, since the quicker you get used to your mattress, the sooner you will be enjoying every moment you sleep on it.

What’s the best mattress for 2022?

We believe that we believe that the Nectar Memory Foam is the best mattress you can buy because it offers superb value in terms of price. It’s incredibly comfortable and supportive, and priced extremely competitively. The typical price for a queen-sized bed is $799, a decrease from $1,198. But the Nectar Memory Foam also comes with a huge 365-night trial and a forever warranty. Also, the return policy is straightforward and fair.

Alternatively, if you have some extra money or would prefer an innerspring mattress that has more bounce, we suggest the premium internalspring hybrid Saatva Classic mattress. Helix Mattress Firmness and Feel

You might have noticed that stiffness is already mentioned throughout this article. That’s because one of the most crucial elements to consider when purchasing a new mattress is the firmness (and how firmness affects the comfort). These factors will tell you a lot about a mattress’s ability to accommodate your preferred sleeping position (s). Let’s look at the comfort and firmness of the Helix mattress series.

What Is the Firmness of Helix Mattresses?

The Helix mattresses come in a range of different hardness options, with the softest being moderately soft and the most firm being quite firm. The Helix Sunset is on the lower end of the scale and we gave it a hardness rating of 5.5 /10 on the scale of firmness. (A 6.5/10 would be the standard industry norm for medium firmness.) The Helix Midnight is next, and we gave it a score of 6/10 which means that it’s more soft than the norm. It’s softer than the Helix Midnight as well as the Helix Dusk sit somewhere between the spectrum. Both mattresses received a rating of around 7/10 which is slightly heavier than average. Helix Twilight and the Helix Twilight, as well as Helix Dawn are at the firmer side of the spectrum, with both receiving the 7.5/10 score (firmer than average).

It is important to be aware that the level of hardness is a matter of individual preference. If you’re looking for firmness, you may evaluate these mattresses in different ways based on your weight and preferences. For instance, heavier people might find them more firm as they can push further into the mattress to reach the support layers. Meanwhile, lighter people may discover that these mattresses are less firm due to the fact that they are located higher within the comfortable layer every bed(s).

Sleeping on the Helix Mattresses

We slept on Helix mattresses for a lengthy period of time in order to gain a clear picture of what it’s like lie on the models in different positions. Have a look at what we discovered!

Helix Sunset Mattress

Helix Vs Layla MattressDue to its softness, because of its softness, Helix Sunset wasn’t sufficient for back sleepers. The hips of ours sink a little too deep into the mattress, which caused the spine to become misaligned.

While the Helix Sunset’s softness isn’t ideal for those who sleep on their backs It’s perfect for side sleepers. We were very at ease in this position due to the soft mattress cushioned possible tension points in the shoulder and hip. It’s actually one of the most comfortable mattresses for hip pain that we’ve found.

The Helix Sunset is not supportive enough for stomach sleep due of its softness. Our hips fell too far into the mattress which pulled our spinal column out of its alignment, just as they did when we were asleep back.

Helix Moonlight Mattress

helix-moonlightAs a back sleeper, back sleeping, the Helix Moonlight was adequate but not outstanding. If you’re planning on sleeping in this position all through the night, you’ll require a mattress with additional support and helps maintain appropriate spinal alignment.

The Helix Moonlight is an excellent choice for side sleeping due to its softness. There was no unwelcome pressure around the hips or shoulders.

It is the Helix Moonlight, like the Helix Sunset, is not sufficient for stomach sleep. Our hips sank too deeply into the mattress, which caused the spine to be out of alignment.

Helix Midnight Mattress

Helix Midnight Luxe FeatureWhen we lay down in the Helix Midnight and feeling fantastic, we were able to feel great. We enjoyed a touch of pressure relief without sacrificing spinal alignment , thanks to the mattress’s good balance of support and comfort. It’s the best mattress for those who sleep on their backs on this list.

Although the Helix Midnight is more firm in comparison to Helix Sunset and Moonlight, it is still a good mattress. Helix Sunset or Moonlight and Moonlight, we found it pleasant to sleep on our backs on the mattress. It offers adequate pressure relief around the shoulder and hip according to our experience.

While stomach sleeping on the Helix Midnight, we were good but not great. People who sleep in this position throughout the night should consider an extra firm mattress that offers greater spinal support.

Helix Dusk Mattress

helix-duskThe Helix Dusk is more supportive than other mattresses we’ve tested, which may explain why we felt at ease while sleeping upon our backs. We’re sure that we’ll be able to maintain good spinal alignment throughout the night thanks to the mattress’s supportive qualities.

It’s probably not surprising to find that Helix Dusk feels a little too firm for side sleeping considering that we’ve moved to the firmer side in the range. There was some discomfort around the shoulder and hip that would create a lot of discomfort if you were to sleep in this position for the entire night.

The Helix Dusk should suit stomach sleepers who weigh around average since it can help them maintain appropriate spinal alignment. However, stomach sleepers with heavier weights may not find sufficient support.

Helix Twilight Mattress

helix-twilightThe Helix Twilight was proved to be the greatest bed for back discomfort. It’s ideal for back sleepers who require extra support due to weight gain back pain, other reasons. The more firm construction of this mattress aids in keeping hips lifted and properly aligned to the spinal column.

Since this mattress Helix Twilight is more firm than the average mattress, we found it difficult to lay on our backs on this mattress. We felt as if we were being suffocated by the shoulders and hips.

The majority of stomach sleepers will find the Helix Twilight to be an ideal choice, as the mattress’ hardness should give enough spinal support in this position.

Helix Dawn Mattress

helix-dawnBack sleepers who like a firm mattress will appreciate the Helix Dawn’s high level of support. However, those who prefer an occasional relief from pressure when lying back might find the mattress too firm.

The Helix Dawn is far too hard to be used for sleeping on your side, and you’ll end up with lots of pressure points around your shoulder and hip. A softer model will be considerably better for those who sleep on their sides.

It is the Helix Dawn mattress is considered to be the best mattress designed for stomach sleepers, in our view. In the evening this supportive and firm mattress helps keep the hips elevated and aligned to the spinal column.

What Do the Helix Mattresses Feel Like?

Helix mattresses are all hybrid composition with foam layered over coils. Despite these commonalities, each model has its own distinctive individuality.

The Helix Sunset offers a soft top and a balanced foam feel. The plush comfort layer encourages sleepers to relax and gives the mattress a slow-moving feel.

It is worth noting that the Helix Moonlight, despite its softness, gives a bouncy sensation, especially when contrasted to the Sunset one, which is more sensitive.

The Helix Midnight similar to the Helix Sunset, has a smooth, even texture and slow-moving top layer. The Midnight is more firm than the Sunset and allows sleepers to sink further in the upper layer.

The Helix Dusk is solid and bouncy. This is due to the use active foam on the upper layer as well as coils in the layer supporting it.

It is similar to the Helix Twilight, like the Helix Sunset and Midnight, is characterized by a slower-moving top. It’s still a solid mattress, even though the comfort layer is a little more enveloping.

Helix Dawn, like the Helix Dawn, like the Helix Dusk, has a soft, firm and bouncy feel it because of the use of foam that is dynamic (in the comfort layer) along with coils (in the support layer).

Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lbs – 230 lbs

The Helix Midnight (which combines spinal support with pressure reduction) or the Helix Dusk are likely to be the preferred choice for back sleepers (which gives a firmer spinal support).

Sleeping on the Helix Late at Night (if your preference is a slightly harder sensation) or the more comfortable and more pressure-reducing Helix Moonlight or Sunset is more likely for average-weight side sleepers.

Finally, stomach sleepers with a moderate weight should choose the supportive Helix Twilight or Dawn.

Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230lbs

The Helix Dusk should provide appropriate support for back sleepers who weigh a lot since it alleviates pressure and maintains the alignment of the spine.

The most comfortable models within the Helix range, like Helix Moonlight or Helix Moonlight or Helix Sunset are likely to provide adequate pressure relief for heavy-weight side sleepers.

For stomach sleepers with heavy weights however are likely to move to Helix Dawn. Helix Dawn (the firmest mattress of the range) to ensure proper spinal support.

Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130lbs

There ought to be a range of options for light back sleepers: The Helix Moonlight, Midnight, and Dusk all provide plenty of support for the spine and various degrees of pressure relief that can accommodate various sleeping styles.

Similarly, lightweight side sleepers can pick from the Helix Midnight, Moonlight, or Sunset, which should all provide adequate pressure relief while allowing users to customize the hardness level to their requirements.

Finally, stomach sleepers will find Helix Twilight or Dawn to be the most supportive. Helix Twilight and Dawn to be the most comfortable.

Helix Mattresses Construction

As far as construction is concerned, each of the Helix mattresses are built in the same manner: They have the same cover and the foam comfort layers are layered above individual supports for coils.

Every Helix mattresses, and in particular the newest models, come with A SoftTouch Design cover that is soft, elastic, and air-tight. This design allows air to circulate freely throughout the mattress’s top. Additionally, every Helix model is equipped with an extra layer of support that is made of individually wrapped coils stacked over a high-density base foam that gives the mattress it’s overall design and strength.

The similarities are not the only part. The cushions’ comfort layers differ in the thickness, stiffness, arrangement and the types of foam. Additional materials are also offered on certain versions. Let’s take a closer look!.

Helix Sunset

The Helix Sunset’s comfort layer is made of pressure-relieving Memory Plus Foam, which provides the slow-moving, comfortable feel of memory foam that it is known for. The transition layer is made of Helix Dynamic foam, a foam made of latex that’s firmer, bouncier, and more bolstering, sits under memory Plus Foam.

Helix Moonlight

The Helix Sunset’s top layer of comfort is made out of Memory Plus Foam, the Helix Midnight’s comfort layer and transition layer is made of Helix Dynamic Foam. This is yet another latex-foam choice with multiple layers of this dynamic foam give it a bouncy feel when compared to that of the Helix Sunset.

Helix Midnight

Memory Plus Foam is the main comfort layer in the Helix Midnight, and it helps reduce pressure and body shaping. A transition layer of thick high-quality polyfoam is placed beneath the Memory Plus Foam. The layer is extremely responsive, implying that the mattress in general responds to pressure more quickly.

Helix Dusk

The Dusk’s main comfort layer is made up from Helix Dynamic Foam, a latex-foam substitute that’s bouncy and responsive. It’s a layer comprised of Memory Plus Foam sits beneath the Memory Plus Foam layer. (Think of the Dusk’s construction as similar to the one in the Helix Sunset, but reversed.) Helix Dynamic Foam has been placed on top of Memory Plus Foam to create a bouncy smooth surface. Memory Plus Foam offers pressure relief when sleepers lie down on the mattress.

Helix Twilight

Helix Twilight, like the Helix Twilight, like the Helix Midnight, has a slow-moving Memory Plus Foam layer above the dense, high-quality polyfoam transition layer. This Memory Plus Foam adds some ease of use, but don’t be fooled: this is a firm mattress with little give.

Helix Dawn

Then, last but not least The Helix Dawn comes with a Helix Comfort Layer made of Dynamic Foam, which is sandwiched over a high-quality, dense polyfoam layer transition layer. This creates a firm, bouncy, and supple sleep surface that has very little bounce.

Helix Mattresses Performance

We tested our Helix mattresses to a series of tests to determine their performance in key areas including the regulation of temperature as well as edge support, motion transfer, and many more. Keep reading to find out how they fared!

Sleeping Hot or Cold

Do you feel hot or cold when sleeping? If you’re concerned about the possibility of overheating, think about purchasing a LUXE model of any mattress.

Motion Transfer

According to our tests certain models are better than other models when it comes to minimizing disturbances over the surface of the mattress. For instance, the Helix Sunset, Midnight, and Twilight have the highest level of motion-seclusion. It’s due they have a memory foam that is slower moving at the top of all of these models, it does an excellent job of blocking motion. These are among the top mattresses for couples on the market.

Edge Support

Every Helix mattress had an excellent edge support throughout the range. While sitting and sleeping on the edges of each model, we felt safe.

Durability

All of the Helix mattresses are manufactured with high-density foams as well as sturdy coils which ensure that they can last for a long period of period of.

Off-Gassing

We noticed an off-gassing issue from the six Helix mattresses initially. The issue will be gone within a couple of days, if not sooner.

Noise

We didn’t hear any distinct noise when we moved around on the mattresses during the time we wrote our test. Since all of these mattresses have coils, it’s possible that they’ll begin to squeak with time.

Sex

When looking for a sex mattress, a majority of people are worried about how easy it will be to move places on their mattress. Since all Helix mattresses have coils, they should be sufficient to allow you to move around easily on each. The models that feature memory foam in the upper layer (particularly, Helix Sunset, Midnight and Twilight) Helix Sunset, Midnight, and Twilight) might make changing positions more difficult because of their slower movement.

Information on the Warranty

A 100-night trial of sleep and 10 years of mattress warranty are provided with each Helix mattress.
