Helix Mattress Firmness and Feel
It’s likely that stiffness has already been discussed throughout this article. That’s because one of the most important factors to take into consideration when shopping for the best mattress is its firmness (and how it affects comfort). These factors will tell you the bed’s suitableness for your sleeping position (s). Let’s look at the quality and firmness that comes with the Helix mattress range.
What Is the Firmness of Helix Mattresses?
The Helix mattresses are available in a wide range of options, with the softest being moderately soft, and the most firm being quite firm. Its Helix Sunset is on the softer end of the range and we have given it a rating at 5.5 /10 on the scale of firmness. (A 6.5/10 is the industry standard for medium firmness.) Helix Dusk is next. Helix Midnight is next, and we gave it a score of 6/10 which means that it’s more soft than the norm. Helix Dusk and the Helix Midnight as well as the Helix Dusk fall somewhere between the spectrum. Both of these mattresses have a score of 7/10, which is slightly more firm than the average. Helix Twilight and the Helix Twilight, as well as Helix Dawn are on the harder end of the spectrum, both getting a 7.5/10 score (firmer than average).
It is important to remember that the level of hardness is a matter of individual preference. When it comes to firmness, you may assess these mattresses differently based on your weight and preferences. Heavier persons, for example could find the mattresses firmer since they can press further into the mattress to get to the support layers. On the other hand, people who weigh less discover that these mattresses are more supple due to their position in the comfort layer of every bed(s).
Sleeping on the Helix Mattresses
We slept on Helix beds for an long period of time in order to gain a clear picture of the experience it’s like to sleep on each model in various positions. Check out the results!
Helix Sunset Mattress
Due to its softness the Helix Sunset didn’t feel nearly sufficient for back sleepers. The hips of ours sink a little too deep into the mattress, causing the spine to shift.
Although the Helix Sunset’s gentleness isn’t ideal for those who sleep on their backs but it’s great for side sleepers. We were very at ease in this position due to the mattress’s softness helped cushion any stress points around the hip and shoulder. In fact, it’s one of the most comfortable mattresses to relieve hip discomfort that we’ve found.
It is apparent that the Helix Sunset is not supportive enough for stomach-sleeping due of its softness. Our hips fell too far into the mattress which pulled our spinal column out of its alignment, exactly like they did when we were asleep back.
Helix Moonlight Mattress
When reclining in a back position, back sleeping, the Helix Moonlight was adequate but not exceptional. If you plan on sleeping in this position for the entire through the night, you’ll need a more firm mattress with additional support and helps maintain the proper alignment of your spine.
The Helix Moonlight is an excellent option for sleeping sideways because of its comfort. We didn’t feel any unwelcome pressure around the hip or shoulder.
It is the Helix Moonlight, like the Helix Sunset, isn’t supportive enough for stomach sleeping. Our hips sank too deeply to the bed, causing the spine to misalign.
Helix Midnight Mattress
When we lay down on the Helix Midnight, we felt fantastic. We enjoyed a touch of pressure relief without sacrificing spine alignment due to the mattress’s good combination of support and comfort. It’s the best mattress for back sleepers on this list.
Even though the Helix Midnight is more firm than it’s counterparts, the Helix Sunset or Moonlight and Moonlight, we were able to rest comfortably on our backs on the mattress. It is a good pressure-relief mattress between the hip and shoulder, in our opinion.
While stomach sleeping on the Helix Midnight, we felt well, but not super. Sleepers who are in this way all night long should look for mattresses that are firmer and provide more spinal support.
Helix Dusk Mattress
The Helix Dusk is more supportive than the other models we’ve tested, which may explain why we felt so at ease while sleeping on our backs. We’re certain that we’ll enjoy proper spinal alignment all night thanks to the mattress’s supportive qualities.
It’s likely not a surprise that the Helix Dusk feels a little too soft for sleeping on your side since we’ve shifted to the firmer end in the range. We noticed some pressure on the hip and shoulder that would cause discomfort if you were to sleep in this position all night.
The Helix Dusk should suit stomach sleepers who weigh around average since it can help them maintain appropriate spinal alignment. However, stomach sleepers with heavier weights might not get enough support here.
Helix Twilight Mattress
The Helix Twilight was proved to be the greatest bed for back discomfort. It’s the ideal mattress for back sleepers who require extra support due to weight gain or back pain, as well as other reasons. The firmer construction of this mattress helps in keeping the hips elevated and aligned in alignment with spine.
Since it is the case that Helix Twilight is on the firmer side We found it hard to sleep on our sides on the mattress. We felt as if we were being suffocated by the hips and shoulders.
Most stomach sleepers should find the Helix Twilight mattress to be an ideal one, as the mattress’ hardness should offer enough support to the spine for this type of position.
Helix Dawn Mattress
Back sleepers who prefer an extra firm mattress will love the high degree of support. However, those who like an occasional relief from pressure when resting on their backs may likely find this mattress too firm.
The Helix Dawn is far too hard for side sleeping and you’ll be left with lots of pressure points around your hip and shoulder. A softer model will be much more suitable for sleepers who prefer side sleeping.
The Helix Dawn is the best mattress for stomach sleepers, in our view. Throughout the night the firm and supportive mattress keeps the hips raised and aligned in alignment with your spine.
What Do the Helix Mattresses Feel Like?
Helix mattresses all have a hybrid structure that has foam layers over coils. However, despite these similarities every model has its own distinct personality.
The Helix Sunset offers a soft top with a balanced foam feel. The soft comfort layer allows sleepers to sink in and provides the mattress with the feeling of a slow-moving.
It is worth noting that the Helix Moonlight, despite its softness, offers a lively sensation, especially when contrasted with the Sunset, which is less sensitive.
The Helix Midnight is, just like it’s predecessor, the Helix Sunset, offers an even feel and slow-moving top layer. The Midnight is a bit more firm than the Sunset, allowing sleepers to sink deeper down into the layer above.
The Helix Dusk is solid and bouncy. This is due to the use of dynamic foam on the upper layer, and coils in the support layer.
The Helix Twilight, like the Helix Sunset and Midnight, is characterized by a slower-moving top. It’s still a solid mattress even though the comfort layer is a little more enveloping.
The Helix Dawn, like the Helix Dusk, has a bouncy, firm feel to it because of the use of foam that is dynamic (in the cushion layer) and coils (in the support layer).
Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lbs – 230 lbs
The Helix Midnight (which combines spinal support and pressure relief) and The Helix Dusk are likely to be the preferred choice for back sleepers (which offers firmer spinal support).
Sleeping on the Helix Late at Night (if you prefer a slightly more spongy feeling) or the more comfortable and more pressure-reducing Helix Moonlight (or Sunset) is most probable for average-weight side sleepers.
The stomach sleepers who are of moderate weight should prefer the supportive Helix Twilight or Dawn.
Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230lbs
It is recommended that the Helix Dusk should provide appropriate support for those who are heavy-weight back sleepers, as it relieves tension while ensuring spinal alignment.
The softest models in the Helix range, such as Helix Moonlight or Helix Moonlight or Helix Sunset will provide enough pressure relief for heavyweight side sleepers.
For stomach sleepers with heavy weights, on the other hand, will most likely go towards Helix Dawn. Helix Dawn (the firmest mattress of the range) to ensure proper spinal support.
Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130lbs
There should be a variety of types available for lightweight back sleepers: The Helix Moonlight, Midnight, and Dusk all offer plenty of spinal support and different levels of pressure relief that can accommodate different sleeping styles.
Similar to the side sleepers that are lightweight, you can pick from the Helix Midnight, Moonlight, or Sunset, which should all provide adequate pressure relief and allow users to adjust the level of hardness according to their preferences.
Finally, stomach sleepers will find Helix Twilight or Dawn to be the most supportive. Helix Twilight and Dawn as the most comfortable.
Helix Mattresses Construction
In terms of construction, all Helix mattresses are constructed in the same way. Helix mattresses are built in the same way. They share the same cover and the foam comfort layers are placed over individual wrapped the coils to support them.
The majority of Helix mattresses, in particular, have a SoftTouch Design cover that is elastic, soft, and air-tight. This design allows air to circulate freely throughout the mattress’s top. In addition, every Helix model has an extra layer of support that is made of individually wrapped coils that are stacked over a dense base foam which gives the mattress the overall shape and stability.
The similarities stop there for the most part. The cushions’ comfort layers differ in the size, stiffness, layout and the types of foam. Additional materials are also available in certain models. Let’s take a closer look!.
Helix Sunset
The Helix Sunset’s comfort layer is comprised of pressure-reducing Memory Plus Foam, which gives you the slow-moving feeling that memory foam is renowned for. A layer of transition made up comprised of Helix Dynamic foam, a foam made of latex that’s larger, more bouncier, and more bolstering, sits underneath that Memory Plus Foam.
Helix Moonlight
The Helix Sunset’s top comfort layer is made of Memory Plus Foam, the Helix Midnight’s primary comfort layer and the transition layer is made of Helix’s Dynamic Foam. This is yet another latex-foam choice and the numerous layers of this foam provide a lively feeling when compared to that of the Helix Sunset.
Helix Midnight
Memory Plus Foam is the main comfort layer in the Helix Midnight, and it offers pressure reduction as well as body shaping. A transition layer of dense, high-grade polyfoam sits underneath it. Memory Plus Foam. This layer is very responsive, implying that the mattress overall reacts faster to pressure.
Helix Dusk
The main comfort layer is made up from Helix Dynamic Foam, a latex-foam replacement that’s soft and receptive. It’s a layer of Memory Plus Foam sits beneath the Memory Plus Foam layer. (Think of Dusk’s structure as similar to that from Helix Sunset’s construction. Helix Sunset, but reversed.) Helix Dynamic Foam is laid on top of Memory Plus Foam to produce a bouncy and responsive surface. Memory Plus Foam helps relieve pressure when sleepers lie down on the mattress.
Helix Twilight
It’s the Helix Twilight, like the Helix Midnight, has a slow-moving Memory Plus Foam layer above an extremely dense and high-grade polyfoam layer that acts as a transition. This Memory Plus Foam adds some ease of use, but don’t be taken in by the appearance: this is a firm mattress with only a little bounce.
Helix Dawn
Last but not least last but not least, the Helix Dawn comes with an Helix dynamic foam comfort layer that is layered over a dense, high-grade polyfoam layer transition layer. The result is an extremely firm, bouncey, and comfortable sleep surface with very little bounce.

Sleeping Hot or Cold
Do you feel hot or cold when sleeping? If you’re still concerned about overheating, consider purchasing a LUXE version of any mattress.
Motion Transfer
Based on our testing, some models outperform others when it comes to keeping out any disturbances that might occur on the mattress’s surface. For instance, the Helix Sunset, Midnight, and Twilight provided the best motion-seclusion. It’s due there is a slower-moving memory foam at the top of each of these models, it does an excellent job of absorption of motion. These are the top mattresses for couples that are available on the market.
Edge Support
Each Helix mattress offered an excellent edge support across all models. As we sat and fell asleep on the edges of each model, we felt comfortable and safe.
Durability
The Helix mattresses are constructed with strong coils and high-density foams, ensuring that they will last for a long period of duration.
Off-Gassing
We noticed the off-gassing of all six Helix mattresses initially. It will disappear within a couple of days in the event that it is not earlier.
Noise
There was no noticeable noise when we moved around on one of these mattresses at the time of our review. Since each mattress has coils, it’s possible that they’ll begin to squeak as time passes.
Sex
If you are looking for a sexual mattress, a majority of people are worried about how easy it will be to move positions on the bed. Because all of the Helix mattresses have coils, they are sufficient that you can move around easily on each. The models that have memory foam in the upper layer (particularly the Helix Sunset, Midnight, and Twilight) may make changing positions harder due to their slower motion.
