Helix Mattress Firmness and Feel

It’s likely that stiffness was already discussed throughout this article. That’s because one of the most important factors to take into consideration when purchasing a new mattress is firmness (and how it affects comfort). These factors will tell you the mattress’s suitability for your chosen sleep place (s). Let’s take a closer review of the comfort and firmness that comes with the Helix mattress series.

What Is the Firmness of Helix Mattresses?

The Helix mattresses are available in a variety of hardness options, with the softest being moderately soft and the most firm being quite firm. The Helix Sunset is on the lower end of the scale and we evaluated it with a score that was 5.5 out of 10 in the scale of firmness. (A 6.5/10 is considered to be an industry standard for moderate firmness.) Helix Dusk is next. Helix Midnight is next, and we gave it a 6/10, which means it’s still less firm than average. It’s softer than the Helix Midnight and Helix Dusk fall somewhere in the middle of the spectrum. Both of these mattresses received a rating of around 7/10 which is slightly heavier than average. The Helix Twilight as well as the Helix Dawn are on the firmer side of the spectrum with both receiving a 7.5/10 rating (firmer than average).

It’s important to be aware that the degree of firmness is a individual preference. When it comes to the firmness of the mattress, you can evaluate these mattresses in different ways based on your body weight and personal preferences. Heavier persons, for example might find them firmer since they can press deeper into the mattress and reach the support layers. On the other hand, people who weigh less be surprised to find these mattresses softer since they are higher in the comfort layer of each bed(s).

Sleeping on the Helix Mattresses

We slept on the Helix beds for an long period of time in order to gain a clear picture of the experience it’s like to sleep on each model in various positions. Check out the results!

Helix Sunset Mattress

Helix Mattress ResaleDue to its softness because of its softness, Helix Sunset wasn’t supportive enough for back sleeping. The hips of ours sink a little too deep down into our mattress which caused the spine to shift.

While the Helix Sunset’s softness isn’t ideal for those who sleep on their backs but it’s great for those who prefer to sleep sideways. We were very relaxed in this position as the soft mattress cushioned possible pressure areas around the hip and shoulder. In fact, it’s one of the best mattresses to relieve hip discomfort that we’ve found.

It is apparent that the Helix Sunset is not supportive enough for stomach-sleeping due of its softness. Our hips were too deep into the mattress and pulled the spine out of alignment just the way they did when were back sleeping.

Helix Moonlight Mattress

helix-moonlightWhile back sleeping, the Helix Moonlight was adequate but not exceptional. If you’re planning to sleep in this position for the entire night, you’ll almost certainly need a more firm mattress that offers more support and assists in maintaining appropriate spinal alignment.

The Helix Moonlight is an excellent option for sleeping sideways due to its softness. We didn’t feel any unwelcome tension around the hips or shoulders.

It is the Helix Moonlight, like the Helix Sunset, isn’t supportive enough for stomach sleeping. Our hips fell too deeply into the mattress, causing the spine to misalign.

Helix Midnight Mattress

Helix Midnight Luxe FeatureWhen we lay down on the Helix Midnight We felt amazing. We experienced a bit of pressure relief without sacrificing spinal alignment , thanks to the mattress’s excellent blend of comfort and support. It’s the best mattress for back sleepers on this list.

Although the Helix Midnight mattress is firmer than it’s counterparts, the Helix Sunset or Moonlight, we discovered it to be comfortable to sleep on our sides on this mattress. It is a good pressure-relief mattress between the hip and shoulder in our opinion.

As we lay on our stomachs in the Helix Midnight, we felt good but not great. People who sleep in this way all night should look for a firmer mattress that provides more spinal support.

Helix Dusk Mattress

helix-duskThe Helix Dusk is more supportive than the other models we’ve tried, which could explain why we felt so comfortable while lying in our backs. We’re confident that we’ll have good spinal alignment throughout the night because of the mattress’s supportive nature.

It’s probably not surprising to find that Helix Dusk feels a little too firm for side sleeping considering that we’ve moved to the more firm end in the range. We felt some pressure around the hip and shoulder that could create a lot of discomfort if you slept in this position all night.

The Helix Dusk should suit stomach sleepers with a normal weight since it can help in maintaining a proper spinal alignment. However, stomach sleepers with heavier weights may not receive sufficient support in this model.

Helix Twilight Mattress

helix-twilightThe Helix Twilight was proved to be the best mattress for back pain. It’s the ideal mattress for back sleepers who require more support due to increased weight, back pain, or other reasons. The firmer structure of this mattress helps in keeping the hips elevated and in alignment in alignment with spine.

Because it is the case that Helix Twilight is more firm than the average mattress, we found it difficult to sleep on our sides on this mattress. We felt like we were suffocated on the shoulders and hips.

Most stomach sleepers should find the Helix Twilight mattress to be a good fit, since the mattress’s hardness will provide enough of spinal support for this type of position.

Helix Dawn Mattress

helix-dawnBack sleepers who favor mattresses that are firm will appreciate the Helix Dawn’s high level of support. But, those who want an occasional relief from pressure when resting on their backs may likely find this mattress too firm.

The Helix Dawn is far too hard for side sleeping and you’ll be left with lots of pressure points on your hips and shoulders. One of the softer types is much better for those who sleep on their sides.

It is the Helix Dawn mattress is considered to be the greatest mattress for stomach sleepers in our opinion. Through the night, this firm and supportive mattress will keep your hips up and in alignment with the spine.

What Do the Helix Mattresses Feel Like?

Helix mattresses all have a hybrid composition with foam layered over coils. Despite these similarities however, each model has its own distinct character.

The Helix Sunset offers a soft top and a balanced foam feel. The plush comfort layer encourages sleepers to feel comfortable and creates a slow-moving feel.

It is worth noting that the Helix Moonlight, despite its softness, gives a bouncy sensation, particularly when compared with the Sunset one, which is more sensitive.

The Helix Midnight is, just like Helix Sunset, like Helix Sunset, is an even feel and slow-moving top layer. The Midnight is more firm than the Sunset which allows sleepers to sink deeper down into the layer above.

The Helix Dusk is solid and bouncey. This is due to the use of high-performance foam on the upper layer as well as coils in the layer supporting it.

The Helix Twilight, like the Helix Sunset and Midnight, features a slower-moving top. It’s still a sturdy mattress with the comfort layer being slightly more cushiony.

Helix Dawn, like the Helix Dawn, like the Helix Dusk, has a soft, firm and bouncy feel it due to the use of dynamic foam (in the layer of comfort) as well as coils (in the support layer).

Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lbs – 230 lbs

Helix Midnight (which is a combination of pressure reduction and spinal support) or the Helix Midnight (which combines spinal support and pressure relief) as well as Helix Dusk (which combines pressure reduction and spinal support) or Helix Dusk are likely to be the preferred choice for back sleepers (which offers firmer spinal support).

Sleeping on the Helix Late at Night (if want a more firm feeling) or the softer and more pressure-reducing Helix Moonlight and Sunset are most probable for people who are average-weight side sleepers.

The stomach sleepers who are of moderate weight should consider the supportive Helix Twilight or Dawn.

Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230lbs

The Helix Dusk should provide appropriate support for heavyweight back sleepers, as it relieves pressure while maintaining spinal alignment.

The softest models in the Helix range, like the Helix Moonlight or Helix Sunset, should provide sufficient of pressure relief for heavier side sleepers.

Heavyweight stomach sleepers On the other hand, will most likely go towards Helix Dawn. Helix Dawn (the firmest mattress of the range) for proper spinal support.

Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130lbs

There should be a variety of options for light back sleepers. For instance, the Helix Moonlight, Midnight, and Dusk all have lots of support for the spine and various levels of pressure relief that can accommodate different styles of sleeping.

Similar to the side sleepers that are lightweight, you can pick from the Helix Midnight, Moonlight, or Sunset and should provide adequate pressure relief with the ability to alter the level of hardness to suit their needs.

Finally stomach sleepers will appreciate Helix Twilight or Dawn to be the most supportive. Helix Twilight, or Dawn as the most supportive.

Helix Mattresses Construction

As far as construction is concerned, each of all of the Helix mattresses are constructed in the same way: They share the same cover and the foam comfort layers are laid over individual supports for coils.

All Helix mattresses, in particular the newest models, come with A SoftTouch Design cover that is flexible, soft and breathable. This allows air to circulate freely through the top of the mattress. Meanwhile, each Helix model comes with an extra layer of support that is made of individually wrapped coils that are stacked over a dense base foam which gives the mattress the overall shape and support.

The similarities are not the only part. The cushions’ comfort layers vary in density, stiffness, placement and kinds of foam. Additional materials are also available in certain models. Let’s take a closer look!.

Helix Sunset

The comfort layer of the Helix Sunset is made up of pressure-reducing Memory Plus Foam, which offers the slower-moving feel of memory foam that it is renowned for. The transition layer is made from Helix Dynamic foam, a latex-foam replacement that’s firmer, bouncier, and more supporting, sits underneath that Memory Plus Foam.

Helix Moonlight

While the Helix Sunset’s comfort layer is made from Memory Plus Foam, the Helix Midnight’s primary comfort layer and the transition layer is made of Helix’s Dynamic Foam. It is a different latex-foam alternative with multiple layers of this dynamic foam provide a lively feel when compared with that of the Helix Sunset.

Helix Midnight

Memory Plus Foam is the primary comfort layer of the Helix Midnight, and it helps reduce pressure and body shaping. A transition layer of thick high-quality polyfoam lies beneath that Memory Plus Foam. This layer is very responsive, implying that the mattress overall responds to pressure more quickly.

Helix Dusk

The main comfort layer is made out of Helix Dynamic Foam, a foam substitute made of latex that is bouncy and responsive. It’s a layer composed of Memory Plus Foam sits beneath this layer. (Think of Dusk’s design as similar to that in the Helix Sunset, but reversed.) Helix Dynamic Foam has been placed on top of Memory Plus Foam to produce a bouncy, responsive surface, while Memory Plus Foam helps relieve pressure when sleepers lie down on the mattress.

Helix Twilight

The Helix Twilight, like the Helix Midnight, has a slow-moving Memory Plus Foam layer above the dense, high-quality polyfoam layer that acts as a transition. This Memory Plus Foam adds some ease of use, but don’t be fooled: this is an extremely firm mattress that has very only a little bounce.

Helix Dawn

Then, last but not least last but not least, the Helix Dawn has a Helix Dynamic Foam comfort layer that is layered over a thick, high-quality polyfoam transition layer. This creates a firm, bouncy, and responsive sleep surface with very minimal give.

Helix Mattresses Performance

We tested Helix mattresses through a series of tests. Helix mattresses through a series of tests to see how well they performed in key areas such as the regulation of temperature, edge support, motion transfer and much more. Read on to learn what they did!

Sleeping Hot or Cold

Do you feel hot or cold when sleeping? If you’re concerned about the possibility of overheating, think about purchasing a LUXE version of any mattress.

Motion Transfer

As we have seen in our tests certain models are better than others in keeping out any disturbances that might occur on the surface of the mattress. For instance, the Helix Sunset, Midnight, and Twilight offered the most effective motion-isolating. That’s because they have a memory foam that is slower moving near the top of each of the models, which do an excellent job of blocking motion. These are the best mattresses for couples available on the market.

Edge Support

Every Helix mattress provided excellent edge support across all models. When we sat and slept at the edge of each model, we felt safe.

Durability

The Helix mattresses are constructed with high-density foams as well as sturdy coils to ensure they’ll last for a long time.

Off-Gassing

We noticed some off-gassing from all six Helix mattresses in the beginning. The issue will be gone within a couple of days if not sooner.

Noise

We didn’t hear any distinct noise while moving about on the mattresses during the time we wrote our review. Since all of them have coils, it’s possible that they’ll start to sound squeaky over time.

Sex

When looking for a sex mattress, most people are worried about how easy it will be to move positions on the bed. Because all of the Helix mattresses are made of coils, they must be responsive enough that you can move around with ease on any of them. The models that have memory foam in the top layer (particularly Helix Sunset, Midnight and Twilight) Helix Sunset, Midnight, and Twilight) might make changing your position a bit harder due to their slower motion.

Information on the Warranty

A 100-night trial of sleep and a 10-year mattress guarantee come in each Helix mattress.
