Helix Mattress Firmness and Feel
You might have noticed that stiffness was already mentioned throughout this article. That’s because one of the most important aspects to think about when buying for a new mattress is firmness (and how firmness affects comfort). These elements will reveal the bed’s suitability for your chosen bed position (s). Let’s review of the quality and firmness that comes with the Helix mattress series.
What Is the Firmness of Helix Mattresses?
The Helix mattresses are available in a variety of hardness options, with the most soft being moderately soft and the firmest being fairly firm. Its Helix Sunset is on the softer end of the range and we evaluated it with a score of 5.5 out of 10 in the scale of firmness. (A 6.5/10 would be the industry standard for moderate firmness.) The Helix Midnight is next, and we gave it a score of 6/10 which means that it’s more soft than the norm. The Helix Midnight, as well as Helix Dusk are between the spectrum. Both mattresses scored approximately a 7/10, which is slightly firmer than normal. The Helix Twilight, as well as Helix Dawn are on the firmer side of the spectrum with each receiving a 7.5/10 assessment (firmer than average).
It’s crucial to be aware that the degree of firmness is a personal preference. In terms of firmness, you may assess these mattresses differently based on your body weight and personal preferences. People who are heavier, for instance might find them firmer since they can press deeper into the mattress and reach the support layers. However, those who are lighter may find that these mattresses are less firm due to the fact that they are located higher in the comfort layer of each bed(s).
Sleeping on the Helix Mattresses
We slept on the Helix mattress for a lengthy time to get an accurate picture of what it’s like rest on each model in different positions. Have a look at what we found!
Helix Sunset Mattress
Due to its softness because of its softness, Helix Sunset wasn’t supportive enough for back sleeping. Our hips sank a little too far down into our mattress causing the spine to be misaligned.
While the Helix Sunset’s softness isn’t ideal for back sleepers but it’s great for side sleepers. We were really at ease in this position due to the mattress’s softness cushioned any pressure areas around the hip and shoulder. It’s actually one of the most comfortable mattresses for hip discomfort that we’ve found.
It is apparent that the Helix Sunset is not supportive enough for stomach sleep due it is soft. Our hips fell too far into the mattress which pulled our spine out of alignment, just like they did when we were sleeping back to back.
Helix Moonlight Mattress
While back sleeping, back sleeping, the Helix Moonlight was adequate but not extraordinary. If you’re planning on sleeping in this position for the entire night, you’ll probably require a mattress that offers more support and assists in maintaining appropriate spinal alignment.
It is the Helix Moonlight is an excellent option for sleeping sideways because of its comfort. We didn’t feel any uncomfortable tension around the hip or shoulder.
The Helix Moonlight, like the Helix Sunset, is not sufficient for stomach sleep. Our hips sank too deeply to the bed, causing the spine to be out of alignment.
Helix Midnight Mattress
When we lay down in the Helix Midnight and feeling fantastic, we were able to feel great. We experienced a bit of pressure alleviation without sacrificing spinal alignment thanks to the mattress’s good blend of comfort and support. It’s the most comfortable mattress for back sleepers on this list.
Despite the fact that the Helix Midnight is more firm than Helix Sunset and Moonlight, it is still a good mattress. Helix Sunset or Moonlight We found it pleasant to sleep on our backs on this mattress. It is a good pressure-relief mattress around the shoulder and hip according to our experience.
While stomach sleeping on the Helix Midnight, we were good but not great. People who sleep in this posture all night long should look for an extra firm mattress that offers more spinal support.
Helix Dusk Mattress
The Helix Dusk is more supportive than other models we’ve tested, which may explain why we felt good while resting upon our backs. We’re sure that we’ll be able to maintain proper spinal alignment all night thanks to the mattress’s supportive nature.
It’s probably not surprising to find that Helix Dusk feels a little too soft for sleeping on your side given that we’ve moved into the more firm end of the spectrum. We felt some pressure around the shoulder and hip that could cause discomfort if you sleep in this position for the entire night.
The Helix Dusk should suit stomach sleepers with a normal weight since it can help in maintaining a proper spine alignment. However, stomach sleepers with heavier weights might not get enough support here.
Helix Twilight Mattress
The Helix Twilight was proved to be the greatest bed for back pain. It’s the ideal mattress for back sleepers who require extra support due to weight gain back pain, other factors. The firmer structure of this mattress assists in keeping the hips elevated and in alignment to the spinal column.
Because it is the case that Helix Twilight is on the firmer side, we found it difficult to lay on our backs on the mattress. We felt like we were suffocated on the shoulders and hips.
The majority of stomach sleepers will find the Helix Twilight mattress to be an ideal choice, as the mattress’s firmness should provide enough of spinal support for this type of position.
Helix Dawn Mattress
Back sleepers who like a firm mattress will appreciate the Helix Dawn’s high level of support. But, those who want an occasional relief from pressure when resting on their backs may likely find this mattress to be too firm.
It’s the Helix Dawn is far too hard to be used for sleeping on your side, and you’ll end up with a lot of pressure points around your hip and shoulder. The Helix Dawn that is soft is much better for sleepers who prefer side sleeping.
The Helix Dawn Mattress is one of the most comfortable mattress for stomach sleepers, in our view. Through the night this supportive and firm mattress will keep your hips up and in alignment to the spinal column.
What Do the Helix Mattresses Feel Like?
Helix mattresses have a hybrid composition with foam layered over coils. Despite these similarities, each Helix mattress has its own distinct character.
The Helix Sunset offers a soft top and a balanced foam feel. The soft comfort layer allows sleepers to feel comfortable and gives the mattress an elongated feel.
The Helix Moonlight, despite its softness, gives a bouncy feeling, particularly when compared with the Sunset one, which is more sensitive.
The Helix Midnight, like the Helix Sunset, has an even feel and slower-moving upper layer. The Midnight is a bit more firm than the Sunset which allows sleepers to sink a little more deeply in the upper layer.
The Helix Dusk is solid and lively. This is due to the use high-performance foam on the upper layer and coils in the supporting layer.
It is similar to the Helix Twilight, like the Helix Sunset and Midnight, has a more sluggish top. It’s still a sturdy mattress despite the comfort layer being slightly more cushiony.
Helix Dawn, like the Helix Dawn, like the Helix Dusk, has a bouncy, firm feel to it because to the use of dynamic foam (in the layer of comfort) and coils (in the support layer).
Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lbs – 230 lbs
The Helix Midnight (which combines spinal support with pressure reduction) and Helix Dusk (which combines pressure reduction and spinal support) or Helix Dusk are likely to be the preferred choice for back sleepers (which gives a firmer spinal support).
Sleeping on the Helix Midnight (if your preference is a slightly harder sensation) or the more comfortable and more pressure-relieving Helix Moonlight (or Sunset) is more likely for people who are average-weight side sleepers.
The stomach sleepers who are with a moderate weight should choose the supporting Helix Twilight or Dawn.
Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230lbs
The Helix Dusk should provide appropriate support for those who are heavy-weight back sleepers because it eases pressure while maintaining spinal alignment.
The most soft models of the Helix range, such as Helix Moonlight or Helix Moonlight or Helix Sunset, should provide sufficient of pressure relief for heavy-weight side sleepers.
For stomach sleepers with heavy weights On the other hand tend to go toward the Helix Dawn (the firmest mattress in the collection) for proper spinal support.
Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130lbs
There ought to be a range of types available for lightweight back sleepers: The Helix Moonlight, Midnight, and Dusk all offer plenty of spinal support and different levels of pressure relief to accommodate various sleeping styles.
Similarly, lightweight side sleepers can choose from the Helix Midnight, Moonlight, or Sunset, which should all give adequate pressure relief while allowing users to customize the hardness level to their requirements.
Finally stomach sleepers will discover that the Helix Twilight or Dawn as the most comfortable.
Helix Mattresses Construction
In terms of construction, all all of the Helix mattresses are built in the same way: They share the same cover and the foam comfort layers are layered above individual the coils to support them.
Every Helix mattresses, and in particular, have a SoftTouch Design cover that is flexible, soft and breathable. The design lets air circulate freely through the mattress’s top. Meanwhile, each Helix model has an extra layer of support that is made of individually wrapped coils stacked on top of a base foam with a high density which provides the mattress with its overall structure and support.
The similarities are not the only part. The cushions’ comfort layers vary in size, stiffness, layout, and types of foam. Other materials are offered on certain versions. Let’s take a closer look!.
Helix Sunset
The Helix Sunset’s comfort layer is made up of pressure-relieving Memory Plus Foam, which provides the slow-moving, comfortable feel that memory foam is known for. A transition layer composed of Helix Dynamic foam, a latex-foam substitute that’s a bit larger, more bouncier, and more supporting, sits under memory Plus Foam.
Helix Moonlight
The Helix Sunset’s top layer of comfort is composed from Memory Plus Foam, the Helix Midnight’s main comfort layer and the transition layer is made of the Helix Dynamic Foam. This is yet another latex-foam choice and the numerous layers of this foam gives it a buoyant feel when compared to Helix Sunset. Helix Sunset.
Helix Midnight
Memory Plus Foam is the principal comfort layer of the Helix Midnight, and it offers pressure reduction as well as body shaping. A transition layer of thick, high-grade polyfoam sits under that Memory Plus Foam. This layer is quite responsive, implying that the mattress as a whole responds to pressure more quickly.
Helix Dusk
The Helix Dusk’s primary comfort layer is made up from Helix Dynamic Foam, a foam substitute made of latex that is bouncy and receptive. It’s a layer composed of Memory Plus Foam sits beneath the Memory Plus Foam layer. (Think about the Dusk’s construction as being identical to that of that of the Helix Sunset, but reversed.) Helix Dynamic Foam can be layered on top of Memory Plus Foam to produce a bouncy smooth surface. Memory Plus Foam offers pressure relief as sleepers sink into the mattress.
Helix Twilight
It’s the Helix Twilight, like the Helix Midnight, has a slow-moving Memory Plus Foam layer above the dense, high-quality polyfoam layer that acts as a transition. This Memory Plus Foam adds some convenience, but don’t get taken in by the appearance: this is an extremely firm mattress that has very little give.
Helix Dawn
Last but not least, the Helix Dawn comes with the Helix dynamic foam comfort layer that is layered over a thick, high-quality polyfoam transition layer. The result is an extremely firm, bouncey, and responsive sleep surface with very minimal give.
