Helix Mattress Firmness and Feel
You may have noticed that stiffness has already been discussed within this list. This is because one of the most important factors to take into consideration when purchasing a new mattress is the firmness (and how it affects the comfort). These aspects will reveal a lot about a mattress’s ability to accommodate your preferred bed location (s). Let’s have a review of the comfort and firmness in the Helix mattress collection.
What Is the Firmness of Helix Mattresses?
The Helix mattresses come in a wide range of choices, with the softer being moderately soft, and the firmest being fairly firm. Its Helix Sunset is on the soft side of the spectrum; we have given it a rating at 5.5 out of 10 in the scale of firmness. (A 6.5/10 is the standard industry norm for moderate firmness.) Its Helix Midnight is next, and we gave it a 6/10 that means it’s less firm than average. The Helix Midnight, as well as Helix Dusk sit somewhere between the spectrum. Both mattresses have a score of 7/10, which is slightly more firm than the average. They are Helix Twilight as well as the Helix Dawn are at the harder end of the spectrum, with both getting the 7.5/10 assessment (firmer than the average).
It is important to keep in mind that the level of hardness is a matter of individual preference. If you’re looking for the firmness, you could assess these mattresses differently based on your weight and preferences. Heavier persons, for example, may find these mattresses firmer since they can press deeper into the mattress and reach into the support layers. On the other hand, people who weigh less discover that these mattresses are less firm due to the fact that they are located higher in the comfort layer of every bed(s).
Sleeping on the Helix Mattresses
We slept on the Helix mattresses for a long period in order to get a clear picture of the experience it’s like to sleep on each model in various positions. Check out the results!
Helix Sunset Mattress
Due to its softness, because of its softness, Helix Sunset was not comfortable enough to be a good back sleeper. Our hips sank a little too deep down into our mattress which caused the spine to become misaligned.
While the Helix Sunset’s softness isn’t ideal for back sleepers, it’s ideal for those who prefer to sleep sideways. We felt very comfortable in this position because the mattress’s softness cushioned any pressure areas around the shoulder and hip. In fact, it’s one of the best mattresses for hip pain that we’ve come across.
The Helix Sunset is not supportive enough for stomach sleep due to its softness. Our hips sank too deeply into the mattress which pulled our back out of position, just the way they did when were asleep back.
Helix Moonlight Mattress
When reclining in a back position, it was apparent that the Helix Moonlight was adequate but not exceptional. If you plan on sleeping in this position for the duration of the night, you’ll almost certainly require a mattress that provides more support and assists in maintaining an appropriate spine alignment.
The Helix Moonlight is an excellent option for sleeping on the side because of its comfort. There was no unwelcome pressure around the shoulder or hip.
The Helix Moonlight, like the Helix Sunset, isn’t adequate for stomach-sleeping. Our hips fell too deeply to the bed, leading the spine to misalign.
Helix Midnight Mattress
As we slept upon the Helix Midnight, we felt fantastic. We experienced a bit of pressure alleviation without sacrificing spinal alignment , thanks to the mattress’s good balance of support and comfort. It’s the best mattress for back sleepers that we have reviewed on this list.
Even though the Helix Midnight is more firm that the Helix Sunset as well as Moonlight, we found it pleasant to sleep on our backs on this mattress. It provides adequate pressure alleviation around the shoulder and hip according to our experience.
While stomach sleeping on the Helix Midnight, we felt well, but not super. If you sleep in this way all night should look for mattresses that are firmer and provide greater spinal support.
Helix Dusk Mattress
It’s the Helix Dusk is more supportive than other mattresses that we’ve tested. This could be the reason we felt so comfortable while lying upon our backs. We’re sure that we’ll be able to maintain an ideal spinal alignment throughout the night thanks to the mattress’s suppleness.
It’s probably not surprising it is that Helix Dusk feels a little too soft for sleeping on your side since we’ve shifted to the more firm end on the scale. There was some discomfort around the hip and shoulder area, which would definitely cause discomfort if you slept in this position all night.
The Helix Dusk should suit stomach sleepers with a normal weight, as it should assist to maintain a healthy spinal alignment. However, stomach sleepers who are heavier may not find enough support here.
Helix Twilight Mattress
The Helix Twilight was proved to be the best mattress for back discomfort. It is ideal for those who require extra support due to weight gain back pain, other causes. The firmer structure of this mattress aids in keeping the hips lifted and properly aligned in alignment with spine.
Since it is the case that Helix Twilight is more firm than the average mattress, we found it difficult to lie on our backs on this mattress. We felt like we were suffocated on the hips and shoulders.
For most stomach sleepers, the Helix Twilight mattress to be a good fit, since the mattress’s firmness should provide enough of spinal support in this position.
Helix Dawn Mattress
Back sleepers who prefer a firm mattress will appreciate the Helix Dawn’s high level of support. But, those who want a little pressure alleviation when lying back may likely find this mattress too firm.
The Helix Dawn is far too difficult to sleep on side and you’ll be left with a lot of pressure points on your hip and shoulder. A softer model will be much more suitable for sleepers who prefer side sleeping.
The Helix Dawn mattress is considered to be the most comfortable mattress for stomach sleepers, in our opinions. In the evening this supportive and firm mattress keeps the hips raised and in alignment in alignment with your spine.
What Do the Helix Mattresses Feel Like?
Helix mattresses have a hybrid composition with foam layered over coils. Despite these similarities however, each Helix mattress has its own distinct individuality.
The Helix Sunset offers a soft top with a balanced foam feel. The comfort layer’s plushness encourages sleepers to sink in and gives the mattress a slow-moving feel.
It is worth noting that the Helix Moonlight, despite its softness, offers a lively sensation, especially when contrasted to the Sunset one, which is more sensitive.
The Helix Midnight is, just like the Helix Sunset, offers a smooth, even texture and slower-moving upper layer. The Midnight is firmer than the Sunset and allows sleepers to sink deeper in the upper layer.
The Helix Dusk is solid and bouncy. This is due to the use active foam for the layer on top and coils in the layer supporting it.
It is similar to the Helix Twilight, like the Helix Sunset and Midnight, has a more sluggish top. It’s still a solid mattress, despite the comfort layer being slightly more comfortable.
The Helix Dawn, like the Helix Dusk, has a soft, firm and bouncy feel it because of the use of foam that is dynamic (in the comfort layer) along with coils (in the support layer).
Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lbs – 230 lbs
It is the Helix Midnight (which combines spinal support and pressure relief) or The Helix Dusk are likely to be the preferred choice for back sleepers (which provides a more firmer spine support).
The Helix Late at Night (if your preference is a more firm feeling) or the softer and more pressure-reducing Helix Moonlight (or Sunset) is most probable for side sleepers of average weight.
Finally, stomach sleepers of moderate weight should consider the supporting Helix Twilight or Dawn.
Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230lbs
It is recommended that the Helix Dusk should provide appropriate support for those who are heavy-weight back sleepers, as it relieves tension while ensuring spinal alignment.
The most soft models of the Helix range, such as Helix Moonlight or Helix Moonlight or Helix Sunset will provide enough pressure relief for heavyweight side sleepers.
For stomach sleepers with heavy weights On the other hand, will most likely go toward the Helix Dawn (the firmest mattress of the range) to ensure proper spinal support.
Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130lbs
There should be a wide range of options for light back sleepers. For instance, the Helix Moonlight, Midnight, and Dusk all provide plenty of spinal support and different levels of pressure relief that can accommodate different sleeping styles.
In the same way, side sleepers who are light can select from Helix Midnight, Moonlight, or Sunset, which should all give adequate pressure relief and allow users to adjust the level of hardness according to their preferences.
Finally, stomach sleepers will find that the Helix Twilight and Dawn to be the most supportive.
Helix Mattresses Construction
As far as construction is concerned, each all of the Helix mattresses are constructed the same way: They all have the same cover and the foam comfort layers are layered above individual coil support layers.
The majority of Helix mattresses, and in particular they have a SoftTouch Design cover that is soft, elastic, and breathable. This allows air to circulate freely through the top of the mattress. Meanwhile, each Helix model is equipped with a support layer made up of coils individually wrapped and stacked over a dense base foam that gives the mattress it’s overall design and strength.
The similarities end there for the most part. The foam layers that provide comfort differ in the thickness, stiffness, arrangement and the types of foam. There are additional materials offered on certain versions. Let’s take a closer look!.
The comfort layer of the Helix Sunset is comprised of pressure-relieving Memory Plus Foam, which offers the slower-moving feel of memory foam that it is renowned for. The transition layer is made of Helix Dynamic foam, a latex-foam replacement that’s larger, more bouncier, and more supporting, sits underneath memory Plus Foam.
While the Helix Sunset’s top comfort layer is composed out of Memory Plus Foam, the Helix Midnight’s comfort layer and the transition layer are made from the Helix Dynamic Foam. This is another latex-foam option, and the multiple layers of this foam gives it a buoyant feel when compared with Helix Sunset. Helix Sunset.
Memory Plus Foam is the main comfort layer in the Helix Midnight, and it provides pressure reduction and body shaping. A transition layer of thick, high-grade polyfoam sits beneath it. Memory Plus Foam. The layer is extremely responsive, which means that the mattress overall responds more quickly to pressure.
The Helix Dusk’s primary comfort layer is constructed of Helix Dynamic Foam, a foam substitute made of latex that is bouncy and responsive. The layer is made composed of Memory Plus Foam sits beneath this layer. (Think of the Dusk’s construction as similar to the one in that of the Helix Sunset, but reversed.) Helix Dynamic Foam is placed on top of Memory Plus Foam to produce a bouncy, responsive surface, while Memory Plus Foam provides pressure relief when sleepers lie down on the mattress.
It’s the Helix Twilight, like the Helix Midnight, has a slow-moving Memory Plus Foam layer above an extremely dense and high-grade polyfoam layer that acts as a transition. This Memory Plus Foam adds some ease of use, but don’t be deceived by this being an extremely firm mattress that has very little give.
Last but not least The Helix Dawn comes with the Helix Comfort Layer made of Dynamic Foam, which is sandwiched over a thick, high-quality polyfoam layer transition layer. This creates an extremely firm, bouncey, and comfortable sleep surface with very little bounce.

Sleeping Hot or Cold
Are you sleeping hot or cold? If you’re still concerned about the possibility of overheating, think about purchasing a LUXE version of your mattress.
According to our tests certain models are better than others in keeping out any disturbances that might occur on your mattress’s top. It was found that the Helix Sunset, Midnight, and Twilight have the highest level of motion isolation. That’s because they have a memory foam that is slower moving close to the top of each of the models, which does well at absorbing motion. These are the top mattresses for couples available on the market.
Every Helix mattress provided good edge support across the board. As we sat and fell asleep on the edges of each mattress, we felt secure.
All of the Helix mattresses are constructed with high-density foams as well as sturdy coils, ensuring that they will last for a long time.
We noticed some off-gassing from the six Helix mattresses at first. The issue will be gone within a couple of days if not sooner.
We didn’t hear any distinct noise while moving about on one of these mattresses during the time of our review. But, since all of these mattresses have coils, it’s possible that they’ll begin to squeak with time.
If you are looking for a sexual mattress, a majority of people are worried about how easy it will be to shift places on their mattress. Since all Helix mattresses have coils, they are responsive enough that you can move around easily on any of them. The models that feature memory foam in their top layers (particularly Helix Sunset, Midnight and Twilight) Helix Sunset, Midnight, and Twilight) might make changing positions more difficult due to their slow motion.
