Helix Mattress Firmness and Feel

You may have noticed that stiffness has already been discussed throughout this article. It’s because one of most important factors to take into consideration when shopping for a new mattress is the firmness (and the way that firmness impacts comfort). These elements will reveal the bed’s ability to accommodate your preferred bed place (s). Let’s take a closer look at the firmness and feel that comes with the Helix mattress collection.

What Is the Firmness of Helix Mattresses?

The Helix mattresses are available in a wide range of options, with the most soft being moderately soft and the most firm being quite firm. Its Helix Sunset is on the softer end of the range; we gave it a hardness rating that was 5.5 /10 on the scale of firmness. (A 6.5/10 is the industry standard for moderate firmness.) The Helix Midnight is next, and we gave it a score of 6/10 that means it’s less firm than average. It’s softer than the Helix Midnight and Helix Dusk sit somewhere between the spectrum. Both of these mattresses received a rating of around 7/10, which is a bit heavier than average. The Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn are on the harder end of the spectrum, both getting a 7.5/10 score (firmer than the average).

It is important to remember that the level of hardness is a matter of individual preference. In terms of the firmness of the mattress, you can rate these mattresses differently depending on your weight and preferences. Heavier persons, for example could find the mattresses more firm because they are able to press further into the mattress to get to the support layers. Meanwhile, lighter people may be surprised to find these mattresses softer since they are higher in the comfort layer of each bed(s).

Sleeping on the Helix Mattresses

We slept on the Helix mattresses for a long time to get a clear picture of what it’s like sleep on each model in different positions. Have a look at the results!

Helix Sunset Mattress

Helix Mattress AdBecause of its softness, because of its softness, Helix Sunset wasn’t comfortable enough to be a good back sleeper. Our hips sank a little too deeply into the mattress, which caused the spine to become misaligned.

The Helix Sunset’s softness isn’t the best for back sleepers It’s perfect for those who prefer to sleep sideways. We were very comfortable in this position because the mattress’s softness helped cushion any tension points in the hip and shoulder. In actual fact, it’s one of the most comfortable mattresses for hip discomfort that we’ve come across.

It is apparent that the Helix Sunset is not supportive enough for stomach sleep due of its softness. Our hips were too deep into the mattress, pulling the spinal column out of its alignment just like they did when we were sleeping back to back.

Helix Moonlight Mattress

helix-moonlightAs a back sleeper while sleeping, back sleeping, the Helix Moonlight was adequate but not extraordinary. If you plan on sleeping in this position for the entire night, you’ll probably require a mattress that offers more support and assists in maintaining the proper alignment of your spine.

It is the Helix Moonlight is an excellent choice for side sleeping because of its comfort. We didn’t feel any uncomfortable tension around the hip or shoulder.

It is the Helix Moonlight, like the Helix Sunset, is not supportive enough for stomach sleeping. Our hips sank too deeply in the mattress causing the spine to shift.

Helix Midnight Mattress

Helix Midnight Luxe FeatureAs we slept upon the Helix Midnight, we felt fantastic. We felt a little pressure relief without sacrificing spinal alignment thanks to the mattress’s good balance of support and comfort. It’s the most comfortable mattress for those who sleep on their backs on this list.

Even though the Helix Midnight is firmer in comparison to the Helix Sunset and Moonlight and Moonlight, we found it pleasant to sleep on our backs on this mattress. It provides adequate pressure alleviation between the hip and shoulder in our opinion.

As we lay on our stomachs in the Helix Midnight, we were good but not great. If you sleep in this way throughout the night should consider an extra firm mattress that offers more spinal support.

Helix Dusk Mattress

helix-duskThe Helix Dusk is more supportive than the other models that we’ve tested. This could explain why we felt good while resting on our backs. We’re sure that we’ll be able to maintain proper spinal alignment all night due to the mattress’s supportive qualities.

It’s not surprising it is that Helix Dusk feels a little too soft for sleeping on your side given that we’ve moved into the firmer end in the range. We felt some pressure around the hip and shoulder area that would cause discomfort if you sleep in this position for the entire night.

The Helix Dusk should suit stomach sleepers of average weight because it will help in maintaining a proper spinal alignment. However, heavier stomach sleepers might not get sufficient support in this model.

Helix Twilight Mattress

helix-twilightThe Helix Twilight was proved to be the best mattress for back discomfort. It’s ideal for back sleepers who require additional support owing to weight gain, back pain, or other reasons. The more firm construction of this mattress aids in keeping the hips lifted and in alignment to the spinal column.

Because it is the case that Helix Twilight is slightly firmer than other mattresses, we found it difficult to sleep on our sides on the mattress. We felt suffocated in the hips and shoulders.

The majority of stomach sleepers will find the Helix Twilight mattress to be an ideal choice, as the mattress’s firmness should offer enough support to the spine in this position.

Helix Dawn Mattress

helix-dawnBack sleepers who favor an extra firm mattress will love the high degree of support. However, those who like an occasional relief from pressure while lying on their backs may likely find this mattress too firm.

The Helix Dawn is far too hard to be used for sleeping on your side and you’ll end up with lots of pressure points on your shoulder and hip. A softer model is much better for side sleepers.

It is the Helix Dawn mattress is considered to be the best mattress designed for stomach sleepers, in our opinions. Through the night this supportive and firm mattress helps keep the hips elevated and in alignment in alignment with your spine.

What Do the Helix Mattresses Feel Like?

Helix mattresses all have a hybrid structure that has foam layers over coils. Despite these commonalities every model has its own distinct individuality.

The Helix Sunset offers a soft top and a well-balanced foam feel. The plush comfort layer encourages sleepers to feel comfortable and provides the mattress with a slow-moving feel.

It is worth noting that the Helix Moonlight, despite its softness, has a bouncy sensation, especially when contrasted to the Sunset that is more sensitive.

The Helix Midnight is, just like the Helix Sunset, is a balanced feel and a slow-moving top layer. The Midnight is firmer than the Sunset which allows sleepers to sink deeper down into the layer above.

The Helix Dusk is solid and bouncey. This is due to the use of high-performance foam for the layer on top, and coils in the layer supporting it.

The Helix Twilight, like the Helix Sunset and Midnight, has a more sluggish top. It’s still a sturdy mattress, despite the comfort layer being slightly more comfortable.

Helix Dawn, like the Helix Dawn, like the Helix Dusk, has a soft, firm and bouncy feel it because to the use of foam that is dynamic (in the cushion layer) as well as coils (in the support layer).

Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lbs – 230 lbs

Helix Midnight (which is a combination of pressure reduction and spinal support) or the Helix Midnight (which combines spinal support with pressure reduction) and the Helix Dusk are likely to be preferred by average-weight back sleepers (which provides a more firmer spine support).

The Helix Late at Night (if you prefer a more firm feeling) or the soft and more pressure-reducing Helix Moonlight or Sunset is the most likely option for people who are average-weight side sleepers.

Finally, stomach sleepers of moderate weight should prefer the supportive Helix Twilight or Dawn.

Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230lbs

The Helix Dusk should provide appropriate support for those who are heavy-weight back sleepers, as it relieves pressure while maintaining spinal alignment.

The softest models in the Helix range, like the Helix Moonlight or Helix Sunset are likely to provide adequate pressure relief for heavyweight side sleepers.

For stomach sleepers with heavy weights however, will most likely go toward The Helix Dawn (the firmest mattress of the range) for the best spinal support.

Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130lbs

There ought to be a range of models for light back sleepers. The Helix Moonlight, Midnight, and Dusk all have lots of spinal support and different degrees of pressure relief to suit different styles of sleeping.

In the same way, side sleepers who are light can select from Helix Midnight, Moonlight, or Sunset and should give adequate pressure relief with the ability to alter the level of hardness to suit their preferences.

Finally, stomach sleepers will find that the Helix Twilight, or Dawn as the most comfortable.

Helix Mattresses Construction

Regarding construction and construction methods, the majority all of the Helix mattresses are built in the same way: They share the same cover, and the same foam comfort layers are layered above individual supports for coils.

All Helix mattresses, including the newest models, come with the SoftTouch Design cover that is elastic, soft, and breathable. This allows air to circulate freely through the top of the mattress. Additionally, every Helix model is equipped with a support layer made up of individually wrapped coils that are stacked on top of a base foam with a high density which provides the mattress with the overall shape and strength.

The similarities stop there for the most part. The cushions’ comfort layers differ in their size, stiffness, layout and the types of foam. There are additional materials available in certain models. Let’s take a examine it more carefully!.

Helix Sunset

Its cushion of comfort is comprised of pressure-reducing Memory Plus Foam, which gives you the slow-moving feeling that memory foam is famous for. A transition layer composed from Helix Dynamic foam, a latex-foam replacement that’s firmer, bouncier, and more supporting, sits under the Memory Plus Foam.

Helix Moonlight

While the Helix Sunset’s comfort layer is comprised from Memory Plus Foam, the Helix Midnight’s main comfort layer and transition layer is made of Helix’s Dynamic Foam. This is another latex-foam option, and the multiple layers of this foam give it a bouncy feeling when compared to the Helix Sunset.

Helix Midnight

Memory Plus Foam is the main comfort layer in the Helix Midnight, and it helps reduce pressure and body shaping. A transition layer of dense high-quality polyfoam is placed beneath that Memory Plus Foam. This layer is quite responsive, which means that the mattress overall responds to pressure more quickly.

Helix Dusk

The Helix Dusk’s primary comfort layer is constructed from Helix Dynamic Foam, a latex-foam replacement that’s soft and receptive. The layer is made comprised of Memory Plus Foam sits beneath this layer. (Think of Dusk’s construction as similar to the one in Helix Sunset’s construction. Helix Sunset, but reversed.) Helix Dynamic Foam is laid over Memory Plus Foam to create a bouncy smooth surface. Memory Plus Foam helps relieve pressure as sleepers sink into the mattress.

Helix Twilight

The Helix Twilight, like the Helix Midnight, has a slow-moving Memory Plus Foam layer above the dense, high-quality polyfoam transition layer. The Memory Plus Foam adds some comfort, but don’t be taken in by the appearance: this is a firm mattress with less give.

Helix Dawn

Last but not least, the Helix Dawn features an Helix dynamic foam comfort layer, which is sandwiched over a thick, high-quality polyfoam layer transition layer. The result is a firm, bouncy, and comfortable sleep surface with very minimal give.

Sleeping Hot or Cold

Are you sleeping hot or cold? If you’re still concerned about overheating, consider purchasing a LUXE model of any mattress.

Motion Transfer

Based on our testing certain models are better than other models when it comes to minimizing disturbances over your mattress’s top. It was found that the Helix Sunset, Midnight, and Twilight provided the best motion-isolating. It’s due to the slower-moving memory foam close to the top of each of the models, which do well at absorption of motion. These are among the most comfortable mattresses for couples on the market.

Edge Support

Each Helix mattress provided excellent edge support throughout the range. While sitting and sleeping near the edges of every model, we felt comfortable and safe.

Durability

The Helix mattresses are made from strong coils and high-density foams which ensure that they can last for a long period of.

Off-Gassing

We noticed an off-gassing issue from all six Helix mattresses in the beginning. The issue will be gone within a couple of days, or perhaps sooner.

Noise

We didn’t notice any noticeable noise when we moved around on the mattresses during the time we wrote our review. Since each mattress has coils, it’s likely that they’ll start to sound squeaky as time passes.

Sex

When searching for a sex mattress, a majority of people are worried about how easy it will be to move places on their mattress. Since all Helix mattresses feature coils, they should be sufficient that you can move easily across any of them. The models with memory foam on the upper layer (particularly the Helix Sunset, Midnight, and Twilight) might make changing positions more difficult due to their slow movement.

Information on the Warranty

A 100-night trial period of sleep as well as 10 years of mattress warranty are provided in every Helix mattress.
