Helix Mattress Firmness and Feel

You might have noticed that stiffness was already discussed in this roundup. That’s because one of the most important factors to take into consideration when buying for a new mattress is firmness (and the way that firmness impacts comfort). These factors will tell you the bed’s suitability for your chosen sleep position (s). Let’s take a closer look at the comfort and firmness in the Helix mattress range.

What Is the Firmness of Helix Mattresses?

The Helix mattresses come in a variety of hardness options, with the softest being moderately soft, and the most firm being quite firm. Helix Sunset Helix Sunset is on the lower end of the scale; we evaluated it with a score that was 5.5 out of 10 in the firmness scale. (A 6.5/10 is considered to be an standard industry norm for medium firmness.) Its Helix Midnight is next, and we gave it a 6/10 that means it’s less firm than average. Helix Dusk and the Helix Midnight and Helix Dusk fall somewhere between the spectrum. Both of these mattresses received a rating of around 7/10, which is slightly heavier than average. Helix Twilight and the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn are on the more difficult side of the spectrum, with both receiving the 7.5/10 rating (firmer than average).

It’s important to keep in mind that hardness is a personal preference. If you’re looking for the firmness of the mattress, you can evaluate these mattresses in different ways based on your body weight and your personal preferences. For instance, heavier people, may find these mattresses more firm as they can push further into the mattress and reach into the support layers. On the other hand, people who weigh less discover that these mattresses are softer since they are higher within the comfortable layer each bed(s).

Sleeping on the Helix Mattresses

We slept on Helix beds for an lengthy period of time in order to gain a clear picture of what it’s like sleep on each model in different positions. Take a peek at what we discovered!

Helix Sunset Mattress

Helix Luxe Mattress UnboxingDue to its softness due to its softness, the Helix Sunset was not supportive enough for back sleeping. Our hips were a bit too deeply into the mattress, causing the spine to become misaligned.

Although the Helix Sunset’s gentleness isn’t the best for back sleepers, it’s ideal for side sleepers. We were very at ease in this position due to the soft mattress cushioned possible stress points around the shoulder and hip. In actual fact, it’s one of the best mattresses for hip discomfort that we’ve come across.

It is apparent that the Helix Sunset is not supportive enough for stomach-sleeping due of its softness. Our hips fell too far into the mattress, pulling the spine out of alignment just like they did when we were sleeping back to back.

Helix Moonlight Mattress

helix-moonlightAs a back sleeper, it was apparent that the Helix Moonlight was adequate but not outstanding. If you’re planning to sleep in this position for the duration of the night, you’ll almost certainly require a mattress that provides additional support and helps maintain appropriate spinal alignment.

The Helix Moonlight is an excellent option for sleeping on the side due to its softness. We didn’t feel any unwelcome pressure on the hips or shoulders.

It is the Helix Moonlight, like the Helix Sunset, isn’t adequate for stomach-sleeping. Our hips fell too deeply to the bed, leading the spine to be out of alignment.

Helix Midnight Mattress

Helix Midnight Luxe FeatureWhile resting on the Helix Midnight We felt amazing. We enjoyed a touch of pressure alleviation without sacrificing spinal alignment , thanks to the mattress’s great combination of support and comfort. It is the greatest mattress for those who sleep on their backs on this list.

Despite the fact that the Helix Midnight mattress is firmer than it’s counterparts, the Helix Sunset or Moonlight, we discovered it to be comfortable to sleep on our sides on this mattress. It provides adequate pressure alleviation around the shoulder and hip in our opinion.

While stomach sleeping on the Helix Midnight, we felt well, but not super. People who sleep in this way all night long should look for a firmer mattress that provides greater spinal support.

Helix Dusk Mattress

helix-duskThe Helix Dusk is more supportive than other models that we’ve tested. This could explain why we felt at ease while sleeping on our backs. We’re confident that we’ll have an ideal spinal alignment throughout the night thanks to the mattress’s supportive nature.

It’s probably not surprising it is that Helix Dusk feels a little too firm for a side sleeper given that we’ve moved into the more firm end in the range. There was some discomfort around the hip and shoulder that would cause significant discomfort if you were to sleep in this position all night.

The Helix Dusk should suit stomach sleepers with a normal weight, as it should assist them maintain appropriate spine alignment. However, stomach sleepers who are heavier may not find enough support here.

Helix Twilight Mattress

helix-twilightThe Helix Twilight was proved to be the ideal bed for back pain. It’s ideal for back sleepers who require more support due to increased weight back pain, other factors. The firmer construction of this mattress helps in keeping the hips elevated and properly aligned to the spinal column.

Since the Helix Twilight is more firm than the average mattress, we found it difficult to sleep on our sides on the mattress. We felt suffocated in the shoulders and hips.

The majority of stomach sleepers will find the Helix Twilight mattress to be a good choice, as the mattress’s firmness should offer enough support to the spine for this type of position.

Helix Dawn Mattress

helix-dawnBack sleepers who prefer an extra firm mattress will love the Helix Dawn’s superior level of support. However, those who like a little pressure alleviation when resting on their backs could find this mattress too firm.

It’s the Helix Dawn is far too difficult to sleep on side and you’ll be left with a lot of pressure points on your hips and shoulders. One of the softer types will be much more suitable for sleepers who prefer side sleeping.

It is the Helix Dawn mattress is considered to be the most comfortable mattress designed for stomach sleepers, in our view. Throughout the night this supportive and firm mattress will keep your hips up and aligned with the spine.

What Do the Helix Mattresses Feel Like?

Helix mattresses all have a hybrid composition with foam layered over coils. Despite these commonalities every model has its own distinct individuality.

The Helix Sunset offers a soft top with a balanced foam feel. The comfort layer’s plushness encourages sleepers to sink in and provides the mattress with an elongated feel.

It is worth noting that the Helix Moonlight, despite its softness, gives a bouncy sensation, particularly when compared to the Sunset, which is less sensitive.

The Helix Midnight is, just like Helix Sunset, like Helix Sunset, is a balanced feel and a slow-moving top layer. The Midnight is firmer than the Sunset, allowing sleepers to sink a little deeper into the top layer.

The Helix Dusk is solid and bouncy. This is due to the use of high-performance foam in the top layer and coils in the supporting layer.

The Helix Twilight, like the Helix Sunset and Midnight, is characterized by a slower-moving top. This is still a firm mattress even though the comfort layer is slightly more cushiony.

Helix Dawn, like the Helix Dawn, like the Helix Dusk, has a bouncy, firm feel to it due to the use of foam that is dynamic (in the comfort layer) as well as coils (in the support layer).

Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lbs – 230 lbs

It is the Helix Midnight (which combines spinal support and pressure reduction) and the Helix Dusk are likely to be preferred by average-weight back sleepers (which offers firmer spinal support).

Sleeping on the Helix Midnight (if you prefer a slightly harder sensation) or the soft and more pressure-reducing Helix Moonlight (or Sunset) is the most likely option for average-weight side sleepers.

For stomach sleepers, those with a moderate weight should choose the supportive Helix Twilight or Dawn.

Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230lbs

The Helix Dusk should provide appropriate support for back sleepers who weigh a lot, as it relieves pressure and maintains spinal alignment.

The most soft models of the Helix range, such as the Helix Moonlight or Helix Sunset are likely to provide adequate pressure relief for heavy-weight side sleepers.

For stomach sleepers with heavy weights however are likely to move toward The Helix Dawn (the firmest mattress of the range) for proper spinal support.

Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130lbs

There ought to be a range of models for light back sleepers. The Helix Moonlight, Midnight, and Dusk all provide plenty of support for the spine and various levels of pressure relief to accommodate different sleeping styles.

Similarly, lightweight side sleepers can choose from the Helix Midnight, Moonlight, or Sunset that should all offer adequate pressure relief, and allow users to adjust the hardness level to their needs.

Finally, stomach sleepers will find that the Helix Twilight or Dawn as the most supportive.

Helix Mattresses Construction

As far as construction is concerned, each all of the Helix mattresses are constructed the same way: They share the same cover and foam comfort layers are laid over individual the coils to support them.

All Helix mattresses, including they have a SoftTouch Design cover that is elastic, soft, and breathable. The design lets air flow freely across the top of the mattress. Meanwhile, each Helix model comes with an additional layer of support made of individually wrapped coils stacked over a high-density base foam that gives the mattress it’s overall design and stability.

The similarities stop there for the most part. The foam layers that provide comfort differ in their density, stiffness, placement and the types of foam. Additional materials are also available on some versions. Let’s take a closer look!.

Helix Sunset

Its cushion of comfort is comprised of pressure-reducing Memory Plus Foam, which offers the slower-moving feel that memory foam is known for. A transition layer composed from Helix Dynamic foam, a foam made of latex that’s firmer, bouncier, and more bolstering, sits under memory Plus Foam.

Helix Moonlight

While the Helix Sunset’s top comfort layer is comprised from Memory Plus Foam, the Helix Midnight’s primary comfort layer and transition layer are made of Helix Dynamic Foam. This is another latex-foam option, and the multiple layers of this dynamic foam provide a lively feeling when compared to the Helix Sunset.

Helix Midnight

Memory Plus Foam is the principal comfort layer of the Helix Midnight, and it offers pressure reduction as well as body shaping. A transition layer of dense high-quality polyfoam is placed under the Memory Plus Foam. The layer is extremely flexible, meaning that the mattress as a whole responds more quickly to pressure.

Helix Dusk

The Dusk’s main comfort layer is constructed out of Helix Dynamic Foam, a latex-foam replacement that’s soft and responsive. A layer comprised of Memory Plus Foam sits beneath the Memory Plus Foam layer. (Think of Dusk’s construction as similar to that from Helix Sunset’s construction. Helix Sunset, but reversed.) Helix Dynamic Foam is layered on top of Memory Plus Foam to create a lively smooth surface. Memory Plus Foam helps relieve pressure as sleepers sink deeper into the mattress.

Helix Twilight

Helix Twilight, like the Helix Twilight, like the Helix Midnight, has a slow-moving Memory Plus Foam layer above a dense, high-grade polyfoam transition layer. This Memory Plus Foam adds some ease of use, but don’t be deceived by this being a firm mattress with little give.

Helix Dawn

Last but not least last but not least, the Helix Dawn has a Helix Dynamic Foam comfort layer, which is sandwiched over a thick, high-quality polyfoam layer transition layer. This combination produces a soft, bouncy and responsive sleep surface with very little give.

Helix Mattresses Performance

We tested our Helix mattresses through a set of tests to see how well they performed in key areas including the regulation of temperature as well as motion transfer, edge support and much many more. Read on to learn the results!

Sleeping Hot or Cold

Are you sleeping hot or cold? If you’re still concerned about overheating, consider purchasing a LUXE model of any mattress.

Motion Transfer

As we have seen in our tests, some models outperform others when it comes to minimising disturbances to the mattress’s surface. For instance, the Helix Sunset, Midnight, and Twilight provided the best motion isolation. That’s because there is a slower-moving memory foam close to the top of all of these models, it does an excellent job of blocking motion. These are the best mattresses for couples on the market.

Edge Support

Every Helix mattress provided good edge support across the board. As we sat and fell asleep at the edge of each mattress, we felt secure.

Durability

All of the Helix mattresses are made from high-density foams and robust coils to ensure they’ll endure a long time.

Off-Gassing

We did notice some off-gassing from all six Helix mattresses initially. It will disappear in a few days, or perhaps sooner.

Noise

There was no noticeable noise when we moved around on any of these mattresses during the time we wrote our review. But, since all of these mattresses have coils, it’s probable that they’ll begin to make noise as time passes.

Sex

When looking for a sex mattress, most people are concerned about how simple it will be to move places on their bed. Since all Helix mattresses feature coils, they should be flexible enough to let you move around easily on each. The models with memory foam in the upper layer (particularly Helix Sunset, Midnight and Twilight) Helix Sunset, Midnight, and Twilight) could make changing positions a little more difficult due to their slow motion.

Information on the Warranty

A 100-night trial period of sleep as well as 10 years of mattress warranty come in every Helix mattress.
