Helix Mattress Firmness and Feel

You might have noticed that stiffness was already discussed throughout this article. This is because one of the most crucial elements to consider when shopping for the best mattress is its firmness (and how firmness affects the comfort). These aspects will reveal the mattress’s suitableness for your sleep position (s). Let’s have a review of the firmness and feel of the Helix mattress series.

What Is the Firmness of Helix Mattresses?

The Helix mattresses are available in a variety of hardness choices, with the softer being moderately soft and the most firm ones being moderately firm. Helix Sunset Helix Sunset is on the softer end of the range We have given it a rating at 5.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale. (A 6.5/10 would be the standard industry norm for medium firmness.) The Helix Midnight is next, and we gave it a score of 6/10, which means it’s still more soft than the norm. It’s softer than the Helix Midnight and Helix Dusk fall somewhere between the spectrum. Both mattresses scored approximately a 7/10, which is slightly firmer than normal. They are Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn are on the firmer side of the spectrum, both getting the 7.5/10 rating (firmer than average).

It is important to be aware that the level of hardness is a matter of individual preference. In terms of the firmness, you could evaluate these mattresses in different ways based on your weight and preferences. People who are heavier, for instance could find the mattresses firmer since they can press deeper into the mattress and get to the support layers. Meanwhile, lighter people may be surprised to find these mattresses softer since they are higher on the comfort level of each bed(s).

Sleeping on the Helix Mattresses

We slept on Helix mattress for a long time to get an accurate picture of what it’s like rest on each model in different positions. Check out the results!

Helix Sunset Mattress

Helix Lux Mattress ReviewsDue to its softness, the Helix Sunset was not comfortable enough to be a good back sleeper. Our hips were a bit too deep in the bed, which caused the spine to become misaligned.

The Helix Sunset’s softness isn’t ideal for those who sleep on their backs It’s perfect for those who prefer to sleep sideways. We felt very comfortable in this position because the mattress’s softness helped cushion any tension points in the shoulder and hip. In fact, it’s one of the most comfortable mattresses for hip discomfort we’ve seen.

It is apparent that the Helix Sunset is not supportive enough for stomach-sleeping due to its softness. Our hips fell too far into the mattress, pulling the spine out of alignment, exactly the way they did when were asleep back.

Helix Moonlight Mattress

helix-moonlightWhen reclining while sleeping, the Helix Moonlight was adequate but not exceptional. If you’re planning to sleep in this position for the duration of the night, you’ll probably want a firmer mattress that provides additional support and helps maintain appropriate spinal alignment.

It is the Helix Moonlight is an excellent option for sleeping sideways because of its comfort. We didn’t feel any uncomfortable pressure around the hip or shoulder.

The Helix Moonlight, like the Helix Sunset, isn’t adequate for stomach-sleeping. Our hips fell too deeply to the bed, leading the spine to misalign.

Helix Midnight Mattress

Helix Midnight Luxe FeatureWhile resting in the Helix Midnight and feeling fantastic, we were able to feel great. We experienced a bit of pressure relief, but without losing spinal alignment thanks to the mattress’s excellent balance of support and comfort. It is the greatest mattress for back sleepers that we have reviewed on this list.

Despite the fact that the Helix Midnight mattress is firmer in comparison to Helix Sunset and Moonlight, it is still a good mattress. Helix Sunset or Moonlight, we discovered it to be comfortable to sleep on our backs on the mattress. It provides adequate pressure alleviation around the shoulder and hip according to our experience.

When we slept with our stomachs on the Helix Midnight, we felt well, but not super. If you sleep in this posture throughout the night should consider a firmer mattress that provides more spinal support.

Helix Dusk Mattress

helix-duskThe Helix Dusk is more supportive than other models we’ve tried, which could explain why we felt so at ease while sleeping upon our backs. We’re confident that we’ll have an ideal spinal alignment throughout the night thanks to the mattress’s supportive nature.

It’s probably not surprising it is that Helix Dusk feels a little too soft for sleeping on your side since we’ve shifted to the firmer side in the range. We noticed some pressure on the shoulder and hip, which would definitely cause discomfort if you sleep in this position all night.

The Helix Dusk should suit stomach sleepers with a normal weight because it will help in maintaining a proper spine alignment. However, stomach sleepers who are heavier may not receive enough support here.

Helix Twilight Mattress

helix-twilightThe Helix Twilight was proved to be the best mattress for back pain. It’s the ideal mattress for back sleepers who require extra support due to weight gain or back pain, as well as other factors. The firmer construction of this mattress helps in keeping hips lifted and properly aligned in alignment with spine.

Because the Helix Twilight is on the firmer side It was difficult to sleep on our sides on this mattress. We felt like we were suffocated on the hips and shoulders.

The majority of stomach sleepers will find the Helix Twilight mattress to be an ideal choice, as the mattress’ hardness should give enough spinal support for this type of position.

Helix Dawn Mattress

helix-dawnBack sleepers who favor a firm mattress will appreciate the Helix Dawn’s high level of support. However, those who prefer a little pressure alleviation when lying back could find this mattress too firm.

It’s the Helix Dawn is far too hard to be used for sleeping on your side and you’ll be left with lots of pressure points around your shoulder and hip. One of the softer types is much better for sleepers who prefer side sleeping.

The Helix Dawn is the most comfortable mattress designed for stomach sleepers in our opinion. Through the night, this firm and supportive mattress keeps the hips raised and in alignment to the spinal column.

What Do the Helix Mattresses Feel Like?

Helix mattresses have a hybrid design that incorporates foam over coils. However, despite these similarities, each model has its own distinct character.

The Helix Sunset offers a soft top with a balanced foam feel. The soft comfort layer allows sleepers to relax and creates a slow-moving feel.

It is worth noting that the Helix Moonlight, despite its softness, offers a lively sensation, especially when contrasted with the Sunset, which is less sensitive.

The Helix Midnight is, just like it’s predecessor, the Helix Sunset, is an even feel and slower-moving upper layer. The Midnight is more firm than the Sunset and allows sleepers to sink more deeply down into the layer above.

The Helix Dusk is solid and bouncey. This is due to the use dynamic foam on the upper layer and coils in the support layer.

The Helix Twilight, like the Helix Sunset and Midnight, has a more sluggish top. It’s still a solid mattress, even though the comfort layer is slightly more comfortable.

Helix Dawn, like the Helix Dawn, like the Helix Dusk, has a bouncy, firm feel to it due to the use of foam that is dynamic (in the layer of comfort) and coils (in the support layer).

Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lbs – 230 lbs

Helix Midnight (which is a combination of pressure reduction and spinal support) or the Helix Midnight (which combines spinal support and pressure reduction) or Helix Dusk (which combines pressure reduction and spinal support) or Helix Dusk are likely to be preferred by average-weight back sleepers (which offers firmer spinal support).

The Helix Midnight (if you prefer a slightly more spongy feeling) or the soft and more pressure-reducing Helix Moonlight (or Sunset) is more likely for average-weight side sleepers.

For stomach sleepers, those of moderate weight should prefer the supporting Helix Twilight or Dawn.

Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230lbs

The Helix Dusk should provide appropriate support for heavyweight back sleepers since it alleviates pressure and maintains spinal alignment.

The most soft models of the Helix range, such as Helix Moonlight or Helix Moonlight or Helix Sunset are likely to provide adequate pressure relief for heavier side sleepers.

For stomach sleepers with heavy weights On the other hand, will most likely go towards Helix Dawn. Helix Dawn (the firmest mattress of the range) for the best spinal support.

Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130lbs

There should be a variety of options for light back sleepers. The Helix Moonlight, Midnight, and Dusk all provide plenty of support for the spine and various levels of pressure relief to accommodate different sleeping styles.

Similarly, lightweight side sleepers can select from Helix Midnight, Moonlight, or Sunset and should give adequate pressure relief while allowing users to customize the hardness level to their requirements.

Finally stomach sleepers will appreciate the Helix Twilight and Dawn to be the most comfortable.

Helix Mattresses Construction

As far as construction is concerned, each of the Helix mattresses are constructed the same way. They have the same cover, and the same foam comfort layers are laid over individually wrapped supports for coils.

All Helix mattresses, including, have the SoftTouch Design cover that is elastic, soft, and breathable. This design allows air to circulate freely through the mattress’s top. Additionally, every Helix model has an extra layer of support that is made of coils individually wrapped and stacked on top of a base foam with a high density which gives the mattress its overall structure and stability.

The similarities end there for the most part. The comfort layers of these mattresses vary in thickness, stiffness, arrangement, and types of foam. Additional materials are also available in certain models. Let’s take a take a closer look!.

Helix Sunset

Its cushion of comfort is made of pressure-reducing Memory Plus Foam, which provides the slow-moving, comfortable feel of memory foam that it is renowned for. The transition layer is made comprised of Helix Dynamic foam, a foam made of latex that’s firmer, bouncier, and more bolstering, sits under that Memory Plus Foam.

Helix Moonlight

While the Sunset’s top layer of comfort is made out of Memory Plus Foam, the Helix Midnight’s primary comfort layer and the transition layer are made of the Helix Dynamic Foam. This is yet another latex-foam choice, and the multiple layers of this dynamic foam provide a lively feeling when compared to Helix Sunset. Helix Sunset.

Helix Midnight

Memory Plus Foam is the principal comfort layer of the Helix Midnight, and it provides pressure reduction and body shaping. A layer of transitional high-quality polyfoam is placed underneath the Memory Plus Foam. This layer is very flexible, meaning that the mattress as a whole reacts faster to pressure.

Helix Dusk

The main comfort layer is constructed of Helix Dynamic Foam, a foam substitute made of latex that is bouncy and receptive. It’s a layer of Memory Plus Foam sits beneath the Memory Plus Foam layer. (Think about the Dusk’s construction as similar to the one in the Helix Sunset, but reversed.) Helix Dynamic Foam has been layered on top of Memory Plus Foam to create a lively smooth surface. Memory Plus Foam provides pressure relief as sleepers sink into the mattress.

Helix Twilight

The Helix Twilight, like the Helix Midnight, has a slow-moving Memory Plus Foam layer above the dense, high-quality polyfoam layer that acts as a transition. Its Memory Plus Foam adds some ease of use, but don’t be deceived by this being a firm mattress with only a little bounce.

Helix Dawn

Last but not least last but not least, the Helix Dawn comes with a Helix Dynamic Foam comfort layer, which is sandwiched over a thick, high-quality polyfoam transition layer. This creates a firm, bouncy, and comfortable sleep surface with very little give.

Helix Mattresses Performance

We tested our Helix mattress through a series of tests to find out how well they performed in key areas including temperature control and edge support, motion transfer, and more. Keep reading to find out what they did!

Sleeping Hot or Cold

Do you feel hot or cold when sleeping? If you’re worried about your mattress being too hot, you might want to consider buying a LUXE version of any mattress.

Motion Transfer

Based on our testing certain models are better than others in minimising disturbances to your mattress’s top. For instance, the Helix Sunset, Midnight, and Twilight offered the most effective motion-isolating. That’s because there is a slower-moving memory foam near the top of each of the models, it does well at blocking motion. These are among the best mattresses for couples that are available on the market.

Edge Support

Each Helix mattress provided an excellent edge support throughout the range. As we sat and fell asleep on the edges of each mattress, we felt secure.

Durability

All of the Helix mattresses are constructed with high-density foams as well as sturdy coils to ensure they’ll last for a long period of.

Off-Gassing

We did notice some off-gassing from all six Helix mattresses in the beginning. This will go away in a few days, or perhaps sooner.

Noise

There was no noticeable noise while moving about on any of these mattresses at the time of our test. However, because each mattress has coils, it’s possible that they’ll start to sound squeaky over time.

Sex

When looking for a sex mattress, most people are concerned about how easy it is to change places on their bed. Because all of the Helix mattresses have coils, they should be sufficient to allow you to move around with ease on all of them. The models that feature memory foam in the upper layer (particularly the Helix Sunset, Midnight, and Twilight) could make changing your position a bit more difficult because of their slow movement.

Information on the Warranty

A 100-night trial of sleep and 10 years of mattress warranty come in every Helix mattress.
