Helix Mattress Firmness and Feel

It’s likely that stiffness has already been discussed in this roundup. It’s because one of most crucial elements to consider when purchasing a new mattress is firmness (and how it affects comfort). These aspects will reveal the mattress’s suitability for your chosen sleeping place (s). Let’s look at the firmness and feel that comes with the Helix mattress range.

What Is the Firmness of Helix Mattresses?

The Helix mattresses are available in a wide range of options, with the softest being moderately soft and the firmest being fairly firm. The Helix Sunset is on the softer end of the range and we gave it a hardness rating at 5.5 out of 10 on the scale of firmness. (A 6.5/10 would be the industry standard for medium firmness.) Its Helix Midnight is next, and we gave it a score of 6/10, which means it’s still less firm than average. The Helix Midnight and Helix Dusk fall somewhere in the middle of the spectrum. Both of these mattresses received a rating of around 7/10 which is slightly heavier than average. Helix Twilight and the Helix Twilight, as well as Helix Dawn are at the harder end of the spectrum, with both receiving a 7.5/10 rating (firmer than average).

It’s important to remember that the level of hardness is a matter of personal preference. In terms of firmness, you may rate these mattresses differently depending on your weight and preferences. For instance, heavier people might find them more firm as they can push further into the mattress to reach the support layers. However, those who are lighter may find that these mattresses are less firm due to the fact that they are located higher on the comfort level of each bed(s).

Sleeping on the Helix Mattresses

We slept on Helix mattresses for a long time to get an accurate picture of the experience it’s like to lie on the models in different positions. Take a peek at what we found!

Helix Sunset Mattress

Helix Hypoallergenic MattressBecause of its softness, due to its softness, the Helix Sunset didn’t feel nearly comfortable enough to be a good back sleeper. The hips of ours sink a little too deeply down into our mattress causing the spine to be misaligned.

Although the Helix Sunset’s gentleness isn’t ideal for those who sleep on their backs, it’s ideal for those who sleep on their sides. We were really comfortable in this position because the mattress’s softness helped cushion any stress points around the hip and shoulder. In actual fact, it’s one of the best mattresses to relieve hip discomfort that we’ve come across.

The Helix Sunset is not supportive enough for stomach-sleeping due to its softness. Our hips sank too deeply into the mattress, pulling the spine out of alignment, exactly like they did when we were asleep back.

Helix Moonlight Mattress

helix-moonlightWhile back sleeping, it was apparent that the Helix Moonlight was adequate but not exceptional. If you plan on sleeping in this position all night, you’ll probably need a more firm mattress with additional support and helps maintain the proper alignment of your spine.

It is the Helix Moonlight is an excellent choice for side sleeping because of its comfort. There was no unwelcome pressure around the shoulder or hip.

It is the Helix Moonlight, like the Helix Sunset, is not sufficient for stomach sleep. Our hips fell too deeply into the mattress, leading the spine to shift.

Helix Midnight Mattress

Helix Midnight Luxe FeatureAs we slept in the Helix Midnight and feeling fantastic, we were able to feel great. We felt a little pressure relief, but without losing spinal alignment thanks to the mattress’s excellent balance of support and comfort. It is the greatest mattress for those who sleep on their backs on this list.

Although the Helix Midnight is firmer in comparison to it’s counterparts, the Helix Sunset or Moonlight We were able to rest comfortably on our backs on this mattress. It provides adequate pressure alleviation around the shoulder and hip, in our opinion.

As we lay on our stomachs in the Helix Midnight, we were good , but not fantastic. Sleepers who are in this way throughout the night should consider a firmer mattress that provides greater spinal support.

Helix Dusk Mattress

helix-duskIt’s the Helix Dusk is more supportive than other models that we’ve tested. This could be the reason we felt so at ease while sleeping in our backs. We’re confident that we’ll have an ideal spinal alignment throughout the night due to the mattress’s suppleness.

It’s not surprising it is that Helix Dusk feels a little too firm for a side sleeper since we’ve shifted to the firmer end of the spectrum. There was some discomfort around the hip and shoulder area that could cause significant discomfort if you were to sleep in this position all night.

The Helix Dusk should suit stomach sleepers of average weight, as it should assist in maintaining a proper spinal alignment. However, stomach sleepers who are heavier may not find sufficient support.

Helix Twilight Mattress

helix-twilightThe Helix Twilight was proved to be the greatest bed for back discomfort. It’s the ideal mattress for back sleepers who require more support due to increased weight or back pain, as well as other causes. The firmer construction of this mattress aids in keeping the hips elevated and in alignment to the spinal column.

Because the Helix Twilight is on the firmer side, we found it difficult to sleep on our sides on the mattress. We felt like we were suffocated on the hips and shoulders.

The majority of stomach sleepers will find the Helix Twilight mattress to be a great choice, as the mattress’s firmness should provide enough of spinal support for this type of position.

Helix Dawn Mattress

helix-dawnBack sleepers who prefer a firm mattress will appreciate the Helix Dawn’s superior level of support. But, those who want an occasional relief from pressure while lying on their backs may likely find this mattress to be excessively firm.

It’s the Helix Dawn is far too hard to be used for sleeping on your side and you’ll be left having a lot of pressure points on your hips and shoulders. A softer model will be considerably better for those who sleep on their sides.

The Helix Dawn Mattress is one of the greatest mattress designed for stomach sleepers in our opinion. Through the night, this firm and supportive mattress keeps the hips raised and in alignment to the spinal column.

What Do the Helix Mattresses Feel Like?

Helix mattresses all have a hybrid structure that has foam layers over coils. Despite these commonalities, each Helix mattress has its own distinct personality.

The Helix Sunset offers a soft top with a balanced foam feel. The plush comfort layer encourages sleepers to relax and gives the mattress the feeling of a slow-moving.

It is worth noting that the Helix Moonlight, despite its softness, gives a bouncy sensation, particularly when compared to the Sunset that is more sensitive.

The Helix Midnight similar to Helix Sunset, like Helix Sunset, has a smooth, even texture and slower-moving upper layer. The Midnight is more firm than the Sunset, allowing sleepers to sink a little more deeply into the top layer.

The Helix Dusk is solid and bouncy. This is because of the use of dynamic foam in the top layer as well as coils in the supporting layer.

It is similar to the Helix Twilight, like the Helix Sunset and Midnight, features a slower-moving top. It’s still a sturdy mattress, with the comfort layer being a little more enveloping.

The Helix Dawn, like the Helix Dusk, has a firm, bouncy feel to it due to the use of foam that is dynamic (in the layer of comfort) and coils (in the support layer).

Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lbs – 230 lbs

Helix Midnight (which is a combination of pressure reduction and spinal support) or the Helix Midnight (which combines spinal support and pressure relief) as well as the Helix Dusk are likely to be the preferred choice for back sleepers (which offers firmer spinal support).

Sleeping on the Helix Late at Night (if want a slightly harder sensation) or the soft and more pressure-relieving Helix Moonlight and Sunset are most probable for side sleepers of average weight.

For stomach sleepers, those of moderate weight should consider the supporting Helix Twilight or Dawn.

Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230lbs

The Helix Dusk should provide appropriate support for those who are heavy-weight back sleepers because it eases pressure while maintaining spinal alignment.

The most comfortable models within the Helix range, like the Helix Moonlight or Helix Sunset are likely to provide adequate pressure relief for heavy-weight side sleepers.

For stomach sleepers with heavy weights however tend to go to the Helix Dawn (the firmest mattress of the range) for the best spinal support.

Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130lbs

There should be a wide range of models for light back sleepers: The Helix Moonlight, Midnight, and Dusk all have lots of spinal support as well as different degrees of pressure relief to suit different sleeping styles.

In the same way, side sleepers who are light can choose from the Helix Midnight, Moonlight, or Sunset and should give adequate pressure relief and allow users to adjust the level of hardness according to their requirements.

Finally stomach sleepers will discover the Helix Twilight, or Dawn as the most supportive.

Helix Mattresses Construction

In terms of construction, all of the Helix mattresses are built in the same manner: They have the same cover and the foam comfort layers are placed over individually wrapped the coils to support them.

All Helix mattresses, and in particular the newest models, come with A SoftTouch Design cover that is flexible, soft and air-tight. The design lets air circulate freely through the mattress’s top. Meanwhile, each Helix model has an extra layer of support that is made of individually wrapped coils stacked on top of a base foam with a high density which gives the mattress the overall shape and support.

The similarities are not the only part. The foam layers that provide comfort differ in the size, stiffness, layout and the types of foam. Other materials are available in certain models. Let’s take a closer look!.

Helix Sunset

Its cushion of comfort is made up of pressure-reducing Memory Plus Foam, which offers the slower-moving feel which memory foam has become known for. A transition layer composed of Helix Dynamic foam, a latex-foam replacement that’s more firm, bouncier and more supportive, is placed beneath that Memory Plus Foam.

Helix Moonlight

The Helix Sunset’s comfort layer is composed from Memory Plus Foam, the Helix Midnight’s primary comfort layer and the transition layer is made of the Helix Dynamic Foam. It is a different latex-foam alternative, and the multiple layers of this dynamic foam gives it a buoyant feel when compared to the Helix Sunset.

Helix Midnight

Memory Plus Foam is the main comfort layer in the Helix Midnight, and it offers pressure reduction as well as body shaping. A transition layer of dense high-quality polyfoam lies under it. Memory Plus Foam. The layer is extremely flexible, meaning that the mattress in general reacts faster to pressure.

Helix Dusk

The Helix Dusk’s primary comfort layer is constructed out of Helix Dynamic Foam, a latex-foam replacement that’s soft and responsive. It’s a layer composed of Memory Plus Foam sits beneath the Memory Plus Foam layer. (Think of Dusk’s structure as similar to that from the Helix Sunset, but reversed.) Helix Dynamic Foam is laid on top of Memory Plus Foam to produce a bouncy smooth surface. Memory Plus Foam offers pressure relief as sleepers sink into the mattress.

Helix Twilight

Helix Twilight, like the Helix Twilight, like the Helix Midnight, has a slow-moving Memory Plus Foam layer above an extremely dense and high-grade polyfoam layer that acts as a transition. The Memory Plus Foam adds some comfort, but don’t be deceived by this being a firm mattress with less give.

Helix Dawn

Last but not least, the Helix Dawn features the Helix dynamic foam comfort layer layered over a thick, high-quality polyfoam layer transition layer. This combination produces a soft, bouncy and supple sleep surface that has very little give.

Helix Mattresses Performance

We put Helix mattresses through a series of tests. Helix mattresses to a set of tests to determine how well they performed in key areas including temperature regulation as well as edge support, motion transfer, and other areas. Keep reading to find out what they did!

Sleeping Hot or Cold

Do you feel hot or cold when sleeping? If you’re still concerned about your mattress being too hot, you might want to consider buying a LUXE version of your mattress.

Motion Transfer

Based on our testing, some models outperform others in minimising disturbances to the surface of the mattress. For instance, the Helix Sunset, Midnight, and Twilight provided the best motion isolation. This is due to the slower-moving memory foam at the top of each of these models, which do great job at absorption of motion. These are the top mattresses for couples that are available on the market.

Edge Support

Each Helix mattress provided excellent edge support throughout the range. While sitting and sleeping on the edges of each model, we felt safe.

Durability

All of the Helix mattresses are made from strong coils and high-density foams which ensure that they can last for a long period of duration.

Off-Gassing

We did notice the off-gassing of all six Helix mattresses at first. This will go away in a few days, if not sooner.

Noise

We didn’t notice any noticeable noise while moving about on the mattresses at the time we wrote our review. But, since all of them have coils, it’s probable that they’ll begin to squeak over time.

Sex

When searching for a sex mattress, most people are worried about how easy it will be to move places on their mattress. Because all of the Helix mattresses have coils, they must be sufficient to allow you to move easily across each. The models with memory foam on the top layer (particularly the Helix Sunset, Midnight, and Twilight) might make changing positions harder due to their slow movement.

Information on the Warranty

A 100-night trial of sleep and a 10-year mattress guarantee are provided in every Helix mattress.
