Helix Mattress Firmness and Feel
You may have noticed that stiffness was already mentioned in this roundup. That’s because one of the most important aspects to think about when shopping for a new mattress is firmness (and how it affects comfort). These factors will tell you the mattress’s suitability for your chosen bed position (s). Let’s take a closer review of the comfort and firmness in the Helix mattress range.
What Is the Firmness of Helix Mattresses?
The Helix mattresses are available in a variety of hardness options, with the most soft being moderately soft, and the most firm ones being moderately firm. Helix Sunset Helix Sunset is on the soft side of the spectrum and we have given it a rating that was 5.5 /10 on the firmness scale. (A 6.5/10 is considered to be an industry standard for medium firmness.) Its Helix Midnight is next, and we gave it a 6/10, which means it’s still more soft than the norm. It’s softer than the Helix Midnight, as well as Helix Dusk are in the middle of the spectrum. Both mattresses scored approximately a 7/10, which is a bit more firm than the average. Helix Twilight and the Helix Twilight as well as the Helix Dawn are on the firmer side of the spectrum, with both receiving the 7.5/10 rating (firmer than average).
It is important to remember that the level of hardness is a matter of individual preference. When it comes to the firmness, you could evaluate these mattresses in different ways based on your weight and preferences. For instance, heavier people, may find these mattresses more firm as they can push deeper into the mattress and reach the support layers. Meanwhile, lighter people may discover that these mattresses are less firm due to the fact that they are located higher within the comfortable layer each bed(s).
Sleeping on the Helix Mattresses
We slept on the Helix mattress for a lengthy period in order to get a clear picture of what it’s like to lie on the models in various positions. Check out the results!
Helix Sunset Mattress
Because of its softness, because of its softness, Helix Sunset wasn’t comfortable enough to be a good back sleeper. The hips of ours sink a little too deeply down into our mattress causing the spine to become misaligned.
Although the Helix Sunset’s gentleness isn’t the best for back sleepers but it’s great for those who prefer to sleep sideways. We felt very comfortable in this position because the mattress’s softness cushioned any tension points in the hip and shoulder. It’s actually one of the most comfortable mattresses for hip pain that we’ve come across.
It is apparent that the Helix Sunset is not supportive enough for stomach sleeping because to its softness. Our hips fell too far into the mattress and pulled the spinal column out of its alignment, just the way they did when were sleeping back to back.
Helix Moonlight Mattress
When reclining, the Helix Moonlight was adequate but not outstanding. If you plan on sleeping in this position for the duration of the night, you’ll almost certainly require a mattress that offers additional support and helps maintain the proper alignment of your spine.
It is the Helix Moonlight is an excellent option for sleeping sideways because of its comfort. We didn’t feel any uncomfortable pressure on the shoulder or hip.
The Helix Moonlight, like the Helix Sunset, isn’t supportive enough for stomach sleeping. Our hips were pushed too far in the mattress leading the spine to be out of alignment.
Helix Midnight Mattress
While resting in the Helix Midnight and feeling fantastic, we were able to feel great. We experienced a bit of pressure relief without sacrificing spine alignment due to the mattress’s excellent combination of support and comfort. It is the greatest mattress for back sleepers that we have reviewed on this list.
Although the Helix Midnight is more firm that it’s counterparts, the Helix Sunset and Moonlight and Moonlight, we were able to rest comfortably on our backs on this mattress. It provides adequate pressure alleviation around the shoulder and hip in our opinion.
As we lay on our stomachs in the Helix Midnight, we were well, but not super. If you sleep in this way all night long should look for an extra firm mattress that offers greater spinal support.
Helix Dusk Mattress
It’s the Helix Dusk is more supportive than other models we’ve tested, which may explain why we felt at ease while sleeping upon our backs. We’re sure that we’ll be able to maintain an ideal spinal alignment throughout the night thanks to the mattress’s supportive nature.
It’s probably not surprising to find that Helix Dusk feels a little too firm for a side sleeper since we’ve shifted to the firmer end on the scale. There was some discomfort around the hip and shoulder that would cause discomfort if you sleep in this position for a long time.
The Helix Dusk should suit stomach sleepers who weigh around average because it will help them maintain appropriate spine alignment. However, stomach sleepers who are heavier may not receive enough support here.
Helix Twilight Mattress
The Helix Twilight was proved to be the ideal bed for back pain. It is ideal for those who require more support due to increased weight back pain, other reasons. The more firm construction of this mattress assists in keeping the hips lifted and in alignment to the spinal column.
Since it is the case that Helix Twilight is on the firmer side It was difficult to lay on our backs on the mattress. We felt suffocated in the hips and shoulders.
For most stomach sleepers, the Helix Twilight to be a good one, as the mattress’ hardness should give enough spinal support for this type of position.
Helix Dawn Mattress
The Helix Dawn is far too hard for side sleeping and you’ll be left with a lot of pressure points in your hips and shoulders. The Helix Dawn that is soft will be considerably better for side sleepers.
The Helix Dawn is the greatest mattress for stomach sleepers, in our opinions. Throughout the night, this firm and supportive mattress will keep your hips up and in alignment to the spinal column.
What Do the Helix Mattresses Feel Like?
Helix mattresses have a hybrid structure that has foam layers over coils. Despite these commonalities however, each model has its own distinctive personality.
The Helix Sunset offers a soft top and a balanced foam feel. The comfort layer’s plushness encourages sleepers to feel comfortable and gives the mattress an elongated feel.
The Helix Moonlight, despite its softness, offers a lively sensation, particularly when compared to the Sunset, which is less sensitive.
The Helix Midnight similar to it’s predecessor, the Helix Sunset, has a smooth, even texture and slower-moving upper layer. The Midnight is more firm than the Sunset and allows sleepers to sink a little further in the upper layer.
The Helix Dusk is solid and bouncy. This is because of the use of dynamic foam on the upper layer, and coils in the supporting layer.
It is similar to the Helix Twilight, like the Helix Sunset and Midnight, features a slower-moving top. It’s still a sturdy mattress, with the comfort layer being slightly more comfortable.
The Helix Dawn, like the Helix Dusk, has a firm, bouncy feel to it because of the use of foam that is dynamic (in the layer of comfort) along with coils (in the support layer).
Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lbs – 230 lbs
The Helix Midnight (which combines spinal support and pressure reduction) or The Helix Dusk are likely to be preferred by back sleepers (which gives a firmer spinal support).
The Helix Late at Night (if want a more firm feeling) or the more comfortable and more pressure-relieving Helix Moonlight and Sunset are more likely for average-weight side sleepers.
The stomach sleepers who are of moderate weight should consider the supportive Helix Twilight or Dawn.
Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230lbs
It is recommended that the Helix Dusk should provide appropriate support for back sleepers who weigh a lot, as it relieves pressure and maintains the alignment of the spine.
The most comfortable models within the Helix range, such as Helix Moonlight or Helix Moonlight or Helix Sunset are likely to provide adequate pressure relief for heavier side sleepers.
The stomach sleepers who are heavy, on the other hand tend to go toward Helix Dawn. Helix Dawn (the firmest mattress in the collection) for proper spinal support.
Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130lbs
There ought to be a range of options for light back sleepers: The Helix Moonlight, Midnight, and Dusk all offer plenty of support for the spine and various degrees of pressure relief that can accommodate various sleeping styles.
Similarly, lightweight side sleepers can choose from the Helix Midnight, Moonlight, or Sunset, which should all give adequate pressure relief while allowing users to customize the hardness level to their requirements.
Finally stomach sleepers will discover that the Helix Twilight or Dawn to be the most comfortable.
Helix Mattresses Construction
In terms of construction, all of Helix mattresses are constructed in the same way. Helix mattresses are constructed the same way. They share the same cover and the foam comfort layers are laid over individual wrapped the coils to support them.
Every Helix mattresses, including they have a SoftTouch Design cover that is soft, elastic, and breathable. This allows air to circulate freely throughout the mattress’s top. In addition, every Helix model is equipped with an additional layer of support made of coils individually wrapped and stacked over a dense base foam which provides the mattress with it’s overall design and stability.
The similarities stop there for the most part. The foam layers that provide comfort differ in their size, stiffness, layout and the types of foam. Additional materials are also available in certain models. Let’s have a take a closer look!.
Its cushion of comfort is comprised of pressure-reducing Memory Plus Foam, which provides the slow-moving, comfortable feel that memory foam is renowned for. A transition layer composed from Helix Dynamic foam, a latex-foam substitute that’s a bit more firm, bouncier and more supporting, sits underneath memory Plus Foam.
The Helix Sunset’s top layer of comfort is made of Memory Plus Foam, the Helix Midnight’s primary comfort layer and the transition layer are made of Helix’s Dynamic Foam. It is a different latex-foam alternative and the numerous layers of this dynamic foam gives it a buoyant feel when compared to Helix Sunset. Helix Sunset.
Memory Plus Foam is the primary comfort layer of the Helix Midnight, and it offers pressure reduction as well as body shaping. A transition layer of dense, high-grade polyfoam sits beneath that Memory Plus Foam. This layer is quite responsive, which means that the mattress overall responds to pressure more quickly.
The Dusk’s main comfort layer is made up from Helix Dynamic Foam, a latex-foam replacement that’s soft and receptive. A layer of Memory Plus Foam sits beneath the Memory Plus Foam layer. (Think about the Dusk’s structure as similar to the one from the Helix Sunset, but reversed.) Helix Dynamic Foam is placed over Memory Plus Foam to create a lively smooth surface. Memory Plus Foam provides pressure relief when sleepers lie down on the mattress.
The Helix Twilight, like the Helix Midnight, has a slow-moving Memory Plus Foam layer above an extremely dense and high-grade polyfoam transition layer. This Memory Plus Foam adds some convenience, but don’t get deceived by this being an extremely firm mattress that has very less give.
Last but not least last but not least, the Helix Dawn features a Helix dynamic foam comfort layer layered over a high-quality, dense polyfoam layer transition layer. The result is a soft, bouncy and supple sleep surface that has very little give.

Sleeping Hot or Cold
Do you feel hot or cold when sleeping? If you’re worried about the possibility of overheating, think about purchasing a LUXE version of your mattress.
According to our tests certain models are better than others in keeping out any disturbances that might occur on your mattress’s top. The Helix Sunset, Midnight, and Twilight offered the most effective motion-seclusion. This is due to the slower-moving memory foam near the top of each of the models, which does an excellent job of absorption of motion. These are some of the top mattresses for couples available on the market.
Every Helix mattress offered excellent edge support throughout the range. As we sat and fell asleep at the edge of each mattress, we felt secure.
The Helix mattresses are constructed with strong coils and high-density foams which ensure that they can last for a long period of duration.
We did notice some off-gassing from all six Helix mattresses in the beginning. This will go away within a couple of days, or perhaps sooner.
There was no noticeable sound when moving around on any of these mattresses at the time we wrote our review. But, since all of them have coils, it’s probable that they’ll start to sound squeaky over time.
When looking for a sex mattress, most people are concerned about how simple it will be to shift places on their mattress. Since all Helix mattresses feature coils, they must be responsive enough that you can move easily across all of them. The models that have memory foam in the top layer (particularly Helix Sunset, Midnight and Twilight) Helix Sunset, Midnight, and Twilight) may make changing positions more difficult because of their slow movement.
