The Purple Hybrid mattress delivers the same signature Purple feel, but with a more durable and supportive construction. Forbes Purple Mattress
The Purple Hybrid mattress is made by the same company that created Hyper-Elastic Polymer, the original Purple bed and the Purple Hybrid Premier 3 and 4. Purple offers three kinds of hybrid beds. The Purple Hybrid, Purple Hybrid Premier 3/3 and Purple Hybrid Premier 4 are the appropriate names. Below, I’ll discuss the many reasons why you might want one or the other. And if the price is right for you. Continue reading to learn if a Purple Hybrid is right for your needs.
Purple Hybrid , also known as the Purple 2, is the thinnest of the hybrid options and stands at 11 inches thick. It is also firmer and more suitable for stomach, back, or stomach sleepers than the two other models. With that said, it’s the most affordable Purple Hybrid mattress.
The Purple Hybrid Premier, formerly known as Purple 3, is 12 inches thick with a thicker Hyper-Elastic Polymer comfort layer. It feels a little softer and is a medium-firm weight. Forbes Purple Mattress
Purple Hybrid Premier 4 Purple Hybrid hybrid bed is the most expensive, but it is 13 inches thicker and more supportive than the others. It’s similar to the Purple Hybrid Premier 3 and has a medium or medium-firm profile. We believe it would suit any body type.

First impressions
Purple Hybrid beds have purple details, which is great for those who love the color. The cover has premium details that give it a more luxurious look than the Purple flagship mattress. The main thing people want to know about this mattress is what does the Purple feel like?
It’s certainly not the same innerspring mattress that Grandma used in her guest room. This bed is an entirely new concept that I believe worked well for the company. Forbes Purple Mattress
Purple Hybrid mattress firmness/feel
Purple Hybrid beds are soft, airy and don’t feel like foam no matter what model they come in. The purple squares can be felt under your fingertips if you move your hand along the mattress’s center.
It’s barely noticeable when you lie down. It just feels buoyant, like you’re floating in your hammock or on top of your head. The thick layer of pocketsed coils underneath makes it very supportive.
The Purple Hybrid 2 simultaneously feels pressure-relieving and supportive, while maintaining a slightly firmer profile; I think it’s around a medium-firm, or 7 out of 10 on the firmness scale. The soft squares do not press into your hips and shoulders, unlike a traditional firm bed. But my back and spine feel extremely reinforced thanks to the Hyper-Elastic polymer layer. I find it a little firmer than my Original Purple mattress.
You might be interested in the Purple Hybrid, but aren’t ready to try out new bedding options. But if you’re open to a mattress feel that takes pressure off your hips, shoulders and back while simultaneously making you feel weightless, you might be pleased with its benefits. Forbes Purple Mattress
Purple Hybrid Premier
The brand’s two top-level hybrid beds share the same Purple feel but have a slightly softer profile due to their thicker Hyper-Elastic polymer layers.
I think they both land in between a medium to medium-firm, or around a 6 on the firmness scale. Forbes Purple Mattress
Construction of Purple Hybrid mattresses
There are three types of Purple Hybrids, each with a different Purple Grid gel layer thickness.
The Purple Hybrid has 4 layers and measures around 11 inches high. Let’s take a look at the layers of this bed to get an idea of how Purple and Purple are made.
A thin slab about an inch thick of basic foam that supports the thick pocketed coil layer.
The mattress has a thick system made of 7.5-inch pockets coils. Each coil is individually wrapped in fabric to reduce motion transfer. This is the reason this mattress is so supportive.
A thin layer of foam about a quarter inch thick to neutralize the effect of the mattress’s foundation.
The Hyper-Elastic polymer of the brand is 2 inches thick. It’s laid out in a grid structure. This is the main layer which distinguishes it the Purple Hybrid mattresses. Every mattress has a different thickness. It is soft, bouncy, and provides the most comfort of the Purple.
The dense foam slabs that surround the edges make the sides more sturdy and supportive.
On top is the Purple’s “StretchMax” cover, and just like the name implies, it’s extra-stretchy. It feels more breathable than traditional mattress covers. I compare it to an athletic antisweat top rather than a soft cotton one. Forbes Purple Mattress

Purple Hybrid Premier mattress layers
The two Purple Hybrid Premier beds are the top-tier mattress options from the brand. The top layers are what really make the difference in construction.
The Purple 3 has a 3-inch layer of Hyper-Elastic Polymer at the top, while Purple 4 has 4 inches.
The Purple Hybrid is softer than these, although they don’t feel any different. Forbes Purple Mattress
Motion isolation
Motion isolation isn’t usually an innerspring bed’s forte, but with the pocketed coils and special material you find in the Purple Hybrid, it’s a different story.
I believe it’s quite effective at isolating motion even though it’s a super-bouncy mattress.
It virtually makes no noise, and you’ll hardly be able to notice your partner moving around on the other side. Forbes Purple Mattress
Edge support
Purple Hybrid mattresses include firm foam on the edges. If you are prone to slipping during the night, the Purple Hybrid will keep you more secure.
So, I give this mattress the enthusiastic thumbs up for edge support.
Temperature
The other benefit of the Purple Grid besides bouncy comfort would have to be its temperature-regulating abilities. The Purple Grid has a natural breathable structure that allows for airflow.
It doesn’t retain heat as memory foam and poly foam might. This makes it attractive to hot sleepers such as me, who require additional cooling. Purple isn’t cold to the touch but I don’t feel hot sleeping on it. Forbes Purple Mattress
Purple Hybrid’s perfect sleeping positions and body types
You wouldn’t be able to wear every shirt in your favorite clothing store. The same goes for mattresses.
Especially since there are so many different options to pick from. Generally, your perfect mattress comes down to your body type and your favorite position to sleep in. Forbes Purple Mattress
Position
The primary sleeping positions are side, stomach, back or a combination of them all. Purple Hybrids are best for stomach and back sleeping.
If you’re a side-sleeper and really want the Purple Hybrid I’d recommend one of the Purple Premier beds. These mattresses are slightly softer and less pressure-relieving than standard hybrid models, which will benefit your shoulders and sides more. Forbes Purple Mattress
Type of body
The Purple Hybrid beds can be used regardless of body weight, so no matter what size you are, they will fit you perfectly.
Purple Hybrid beds are better for all types of bodies than regular foam beds like Casper, Nectar and Casper. You will notice the layer of steel pocketed coils at the bottom. It is far more durable than foam. It will be noticeable how the mattress will perform over the years compared with an all foam mattress. Forbes Purple Mattress
Price
The Purple Hybrid costs more than the original Purple. It isn’t the best option for people trying to save as much money as possible when buying a new bed. It’s possible that you will see the Purple Hybrid as a reasonable cost if you are looking to make an investment in your sleep.
The standard Purple Hybrid mattress is available in sizes from twin XL to California king. Prices start from $1,299 and can go all the way to $1.899. You won’t find any discounts on this bed but they may offer free sheets or pillows when you buy.
Purple Hybrid mattresses have metal coils that are encased with foam for support and softness.
