Helix Mattress Firmness and Feel

You might have noticed that stiffness is already mentioned throughout this article. This is because one of the most important factors to take into consideration when buying for the best mattress is its firmness (and the way that firmness impacts the comfort). These elements will reveal the mattress’s suitableness for your sleeping location (s). Let’s review of the firmness and feel that comes with the Helix mattress collection.

What Is the Firmness of Helix Mattresses?

The Helix mattresses come in a range of different hardness options, with the softest being moderately soft, and the most firm being quite firm. The Helix Sunset is on the lower end of the scale; we have given it a rating at 5.5 out of 10 in the firmness scale. (A 6.5/10 is considered to be an standard industry norm for moderate firmness.) Its Helix Midnight is next, and we gave it a 6/10 that means it’s softer than normal. The Helix Midnight as well as the Helix Dusk fall somewhere in the middle of the spectrum. Both of these mattresses received a rating of around 7/10 which is slightly more firm than the average. They are Helix Twilight as well as the Helix Dawn are at the more difficult side of the spectrum, with both receiving the 7.5/10 rating (firmer than average).

It’s important to keep in mind that the level of hardness is a matter of personal preference. When it comes to the firmness, you could rate these mattresses differently depending on your body weight and personal preferences. People who are heavier, for instance, may find these mattresses firmer since they can press further into the mattress and reach the support layers. On the other hand, people who weigh less discover that these mattresses are less firm due to the fact that they are located higher in the comfort layer of each bed(s).

Sleeping on the Helix Mattresses

We slept on the Helix mattresses for a long period of time in order to gain an accurate picture of the experience it’s like to sleep on each model in different positions. Have a look at the results!

Helix Sunset Mattress

Does The Helix Mattress Bottom Out?Due to its softness, the Helix Sunset was not comfortable enough to be a good back sleeper. Our hips sank a little too deeply down into our mattress which caused the spine to shift.

Although the Helix Sunset’s gentleness isn’t ideal for those who sleep on their backs, it’s ideal for those who sleep on their sides. We were very comfortable in this position because the mattress’s softness helped cushion any stress points around the hip and shoulder. In actual fact, it’s one of the greatest mattresses for hip pain we’ve seen.

The Helix Sunset is not supportive enough for stomach sleeping because of its softness. Our hips were too deep into the mattress, pulling the spine out of alignment, exactly the way they did when were back sleeping.

Helix Moonlight Mattress

helix-moonlightWhen reclining in a back position, the Helix Moonlight was adequate but not outstanding. If you’re planning on sleeping in this position all night, you’ll almost certainly want a firmer mattress that offers additional support and helps maintain an appropriate spine alignment.

The Helix Moonlight is an excellent option for sleeping sideways because of its comfort. We didn’t feel any unwelcome tension around the hips or shoulders.

The Helix Moonlight, like the Helix Sunset, is not adequate for stomach-sleeping. Our hips fell too deeply in the mattress leading the spine to be out of alignment.

Helix Midnight Mattress

Helix Midnight Luxe FeatureAs we slept on the Helix Midnight, we felt fantastic. We felt a little pressure relief without sacrificing spinal alignment , thanks to the mattress’s great combination of support and comfort. It’s the best mattress for back sleepers on this list.

Although the Helix Midnight is firmer in comparison to it’s counterparts, the Helix Sunset or Moonlight, we found it pleasant to sleep on our backs on the mattress. It offers adequate pressure relief between the hip and shoulder, in our opinion.

While stomach sleeping on the Helix Midnight, we felt well, but not super. People who sleep in this way all night should look for mattresses that are firmer and provide greater spinal support.

Helix Dusk Mattress

helix-duskIt’s the Helix Dusk is more supportive than other mattresses that we’ve tested. This could be the reason we felt so at ease while sleeping in our backs. We’re confident that we’ll have an ideal spinal alignment throughout the night due to the mattress’s suppleness.

It’s likely not a surprise to find that Helix Dusk feels a little too soft for sleeping on your side since we’ve shifted to the more firm end on the scale. We felt some pressure around the shoulder and hip, which would definitely cause significant discomfort if you sleep in this position all night.

The Helix Dusk should suit stomach sleepers with a normal weight since it can help in maintaining a proper spinal alignment. However, heavier stomach sleepers might not get enough support here.

Helix Twilight Mattress

helix-twilightThe Helix Twilight was proved to be the best mattress for back discomfort. It’s the ideal mattress for back sleepers who require additional support owing to increased weight, back pain, or other causes. The more firm construction of this mattress assists in keeping the hips lifted and in alignment with the spine.

Because this mattress Helix Twilight is slightly firmer than other mattresses We found it hard to lie on our backs on the mattress. We felt suffocated in the hips and shoulders.

The majority of stomach sleepers will find the Helix Twilight mattress to be a great choice, as the mattress’s firmness should provide enough of spinal support for this type of position.

Helix Dawn Mattress

helix-dawnBack sleepers who favor an extra firm mattress will love the Helix Dawn’s superior level of support. However, those who prefer some pressure relief when resting on their backs might find the mattress to be excessively firm.

The Helix Dawn is far too hard for side sleeping, and you’ll end up with lots of pressure points around your shoulder and hip. One of the softer types will be considerably better for those who sleep on their sides.

The Helix Dawn mattress is considered to be the greatest mattress for stomach sleepers, in our opinions. Throughout the night this supportive and firm mattress helps keep the hips elevated and aligned to the spinal column.

What Do the Helix Mattresses Feel Like?

Helix mattresses have a hybrid design that incorporates foam over coils. Despite these commonalities however, each model has its own distinctive character.

The Helix Sunset offers a soft top with a balanced foam feel. The soft comfort layer allows sleepers to relax and gives the mattress the feeling of a slow-moving.

It is worth noting that the Helix Moonlight, despite its softness, offers a lively sensation, especially when contrasted with the Sunset, which is less sensitive.

The Helix Midnight is, just like it’s predecessor, the Helix Sunset, has a balanced feel and a smooth top layer that moves slowly. The Midnight is firmer than the Sunset and allows sleepers to sink deeper down into the layer above.

The Helix Dusk is solid and bouncey. This is due to the use active foam for the layer on top as well as coils in the supporting layer.

The Helix Twilight, like the Helix Sunset and Midnight, is characterized by a slower-moving top. It’s still a sturdy mattress despite the comfort layer being a little more enveloping.

The Helix Dawn, like the Helix Dusk, has a soft, firm and bouncy feel it due to the use of dynamic foam (in the cushion layer) along with coils (in the support layer).

Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lbs – 230 lbs

It is the Helix Midnight (which combines spinal support with pressure reduction) or The Helix Dusk are likely to be the preferred choice for back sleepers (which provides a more firmer spine support).

The Helix Late at Night (if want a more firm feeling) or the soft and more pressure-reducing Helix Moonlight or Sunset is more likely for average-weight side sleepers.

For stomach sleepers, those of moderate weight should consider the supporting Helix Twilight or Dawn.

Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230lbs

The Helix Dusk should provide appropriate support for back sleepers who weigh a lot since it alleviates pressure while maintaining spinal alignment.

The most comfortable models within the Helix range, such as Helix Moonlight or Helix Moonlight or Helix Sunset will provide enough pressure relief for heavier side sleepers.

For stomach sleepers with heavy weights however tend to go to The Helix Dawn (the firmest mattress of the range) to ensure proper spinal support.

Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130lbs

There should be a variety of options for light back sleepers. The Helix Moonlight, Midnight, and Dusk all offer plenty of spinal support and different degrees of pressure relief that can accommodate various sleeping styles.

In the same way, side sleepers who are light can choose from the Helix Midnight, Moonlight, or Sunset, which should all give adequate pressure relief with the ability to alter the level of hardness to suit their needs.

Finally stomach sleepers will discover that the Helix Twilight, or Dawn as the most supportive.

Helix Mattresses Construction

Regarding construction and construction methods, the majority of all of the Helix mattresses are built in the same way: They all have the same cover and foam comfort layers are laid over individual coil support layers.

All Helix mattresses, and in particular the newest models, come with A SoftTouch Design cover that is soft, elastic, and breathable. This allows air to flow freely across the mattress’s top. Meanwhile, each Helix model has an extra layer of support that is made of individually wrapped coils that are stacked over a high-density base foam which gives the mattress its overall structure and stability.

The similarities end there for the most part. The foam layers that provide comfort vary in size, stiffness, layout and the types of foam. Other materials are available on some versions. Let’s have a look at it more closely!.

Helix Sunset

The comfort layer of the Helix Sunset is made of pressure-relieving Memory Plus Foam, which gives you the slow-moving feeling which memory foam has become known for. A layer of transition made up comprised of Helix Dynamic foam, a latex-foam substitute that’s a bit firmer, bouncier, and more bolstering, sits underneath memory Plus Foam.

Helix Moonlight

While the Sunset’s top layer of comfort is comprised out of Memory Plus Foam, the Helix Midnight’s comfort layer and the transition layer are made from the Helix Dynamic Foam. This is yet another latex-foam choice, and the multiple layers of this foam provide a lively feel when compared to Helix Sunset. Helix Sunset.

Helix Midnight

Memory Plus Foam is the primary comfort layer of the Helix Midnight, and it helps reduce pressure and body shaping. A transition layer of thick, high-grade polyfoam sits underneath that Memory Plus Foam. The layer is extremely flexible, meaning that the mattress overall reacts faster to pressure.

Helix Dusk

The Dusk’s main comfort layer is constructed out of Helix Dynamic Foam, a latex-foam replacement that’s soft and receptive. A layer comprised of Memory Plus Foam sits beneath this layer. (Think about the Dusk’s design as similar to that from that of the Helix Sunset, but reversed.) Helix Dynamic Foam is placed on top of Memory Plus Foam to create a lively, responsive surface, while Memory Plus Foam helps relieve pressure as sleepers sink into the mattress.

Helix Twilight

The Helix Twilight, like the Helix Midnight, has a slow-moving Memory Plus Foam layer above a dense, high-grade polyfoam layer that acts as a transition. The Memory Plus Foam adds some ease of use, but don’t be deceived by this being a firm mattress with only a little bounce.

Helix Dawn

Not to be left out The Helix Dawn features the Helix Dynamic Foam comfort layer, which is sandwiched over a high-quality, dense polyfoam transition layer. The result is a firm, bouncy, and responsive sleep surface with very minimal give.

Helix Mattresses Performance

We tested our Helix mattresses through a set of tests to determine how well they performed in key areas like the regulation of temperature as well as motion transfer, edge support and much other areas. Continue reading to find out how they fared!

Sleeping Hot or Cold

Do you feel hot or cold when sleeping? If you’re concerned about the possibility of overheating, think about purchasing a LUXE model of any mattress.

Motion Transfer

As we have seen in our tests, some models outperform other models when it comes to minimizing disturbances over the surface of the mattress. The Helix Sunset, Midnight, and Twilight have the highest level of motion isolation. This is due there is a slower-moving memory foam near the top of each of the models, which do well at absorbing motion. These are among the best mattresses for couples on the market.

Edge Support

Every Helix mattress had good edge support across the board. While sitting and sleeping at the edge of each model, we felt comfortable and safe.

Durability

All of the Helix mattresses are made from strong coils and high-density foams to ensure they’ll endure a long period of.

Off-Gassing

We did notice an off-gassing issue from the six Helix mattresses in the beginning. The issue will be gone within a couple of days, or perhaps sooner.

Noise

We didn’t hear any distinct noise while moving about on the mattresses during the time of our review. Since all of these mattresses have coils, it’s possible that they’ll begin to squeak with time.

Sex

If you are looking for a sexual mattress, most people are concerned about how simple it is to change places on their mattress. Since all Helix mattresses are made of coils, they are flexible enough to let you move around with ease on all of them. The models with memory foam in their top layers (particularly those that have memory foam in the top layer (such as Helix Sunset, Midnight, and Twilight) could make changing positions more difficult because of their slow movement.

Information on the Warranty

A 100-night trial period of sleep as well as 10 years of mattress warranty are provided with each Helix mattress.
