Helix Mattress Firmness and Feel

You might have noticed that stiffness has already been discussed within this list. That’s because one of the most important aspects to think about when purchasing the best mattress is its firmness (and how it affects the comfort). These aspects will reveal a lot about a mattress’s suitableness for your sleeping location (s). Let’s have a look at the firmness and feel of the Helix mattress collection.

What Is the Firmness of Helix Mattresses?

The Helix mattresses are available in a range of different hardness options, with the most soft being moderately soft and the firmest being fairly firm. Its Helix Sunset is on the lower end of the scale; we gave it a hardness rating of 5.5 /10 on the scale of firmness. (A 6.5/10 is the industry standard for moderate firmness.) Helix Dusk is next. Helix Midnight is next, and we gave it a 6/10 which means that it’s more soft than the norm. Helix Dusk and the Helix Midnight and Helix Dusk sit somewhere in the middle of the spectrum. Both mattresses scored approximately a 7/10, which is slightly firmer than normal. The Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn are at the harder end of the spectrum with each receiving the 7.5/10 rating (firmer than the average).

It is important to remember that the level of hardness is a matter of personal preference. When it comes to the firmness, you could rate these mattresses differently depending on your weight and preferences. Heavier persons, for example, may find these mattresses more firm as they can push further into the mattress and get to the support layers. Meanwhile, lighter people may be surprised to find these mattresses more supple due to their position on the comfort level of every bed(s).

Sleeping on the Helix Mattresses

We slept on Helix beds for an long period in order to get a clear picture of what it’s like to lie on the models in various positions. Take a peek at the results!

Helix Sunset Mattress

Does Helix Mattress Come In A BoxBecause of its softness, the Helix Sunset was not comfortable enough to be a good back sleeper. Our hips were a bit too deep down into our mattress which caused the spine to be misaligned.

While the Helix Sunset’s softness isn’t ideal for those who sleep on their backs, it’s ideal for those who prefer to sleep sideways. We felt very relaxed in this position as the mattress’s softness helped cushion any stress points around the shoulder and hip. It’s actually one of the greatest mattresses for hip pain that we’ve found.

The Helix Sunset is not supportive enough for stomach sleeping because to its softness. Our hips were too deep into the mattress, pulling the back out of position just like they did when we were back sleeping.

Helix Moonlight Mattress

helix-moonlightWhile back sleeping while sleeping, it was apparent that the Helix Moonlight was adequate but not extraordinary. If you’re planning on sleeping in this position all night, you’ll almost certainly want a firmer mattress that offers additional support and helps maintain an appropriate spine alignment.

It is the Helix Moonlight is an excellent option for sleeping sideways due to its softness. There was no unwelcome pressure on the hip or shoulder.

The Helix Moonlight, like the Helix Sunset, is not sufficient for stomach sleep. Our hips sank too deeply in the mattress causing the spine to shift.

Helix Midnight Mattress

Helix Midnight Luxe FeatureWhile resting in the Helix Midnight and feeling fantastic, we were able to feel great. We enjoyed a touch of pressure alleviation without sacrificing spinal alignment , thanks to the mattress’s great balance of support and comfort. It’s the most comfortable mattress for those who sleep on their backs on this list.

Even though the Helix Midnight mattress is firmer that it’s counterparts, the Helix Sunset as well as Moonlight, we discovered it to be comfortable to sleep on our sides on this mattress. It provides adequate pressure alleviation around the shoulder and hip, in our opinion.

When we slept with our stomachs on the Helix Midnight, we felt good , but not fantastic. Sleepers who are in this posture all night long should look for mattresses that are firmer and provide more spinal support.

Helix Dusk Mattress

helix-duskIt’s the Helix Dusk is more supportive than other models we’ve tested, which may be the reason we felt so comfortable while lying in our backs. We’re certain that we’ll enjoy proper spinal alignment all night because of the mattress’s suppleness.

It’s likely not a surprise to find that Helix Dusk feels a little too firm for a side sleeper since we’ve shifted to the firmer end of the spectrum. We noticed some pressure on the hip and shoulder area, which would definitely cause significant discomfort if you were to sleep in this position for the entire night.

The Helix Dusk should suit stomach sleepers who weigh around average because it will help them maintain appropriate spine alignment. However, stomach sleepers who are heavier may not find sufficient support in this model.

Helix Twilight Mattress

helix-twilightThe Helix Twilight was proved to be the greatest bed for back discomfort. It is ideal for those who require more support due to increased weight back pain, other reasons. The firmer structure of this mattress assists in keeping the hips lifted and in alignment to the spinal column.

Since the Helix Twilight is slightly firmer than other mattresses, we found it difficult to lay on our backs on the mattress. We felt as if we were being suffocated by the shoulders and hips.

Most stomach sleepers should find the Helix Twilight mattress to be a good one, as the mattress’ hardness should offer enough support to the spine in this position.

Helix Dawn Mattress

helix-dawnBack sleepers who like mattresses that are firm will appreciate the Helix Dawn’s superior level of support. However, those who like a little pressure alleviation while lying on their backs could find this mattress too firm.

It’s the Helix Dawn is far too difficult to sleep on side and you’ll end up having a lot of pressure points around your shoulder and hip. One of the softer types will be much more suitable for side sleepers.

The Helix Dawn mattress is considered to be the most comfortable mattresses for stomach-sleepers, in our opinions. In the evening the firm and supportive mattress helps keep the hips elevated and aligned with the spine.

What Do the Helix Mattresses Feel Like?

Helix mattresses have a hybrid composition with foam layered over coils. Despite these commonalities, each model has its own distinct character.

The Helix Sunset offers a soft top and a balanced foam feel. The comfort layer’s plushness encourages sleepers to relax and creates the feeling of a slow-moving.

The Helix Moonlight, despite its softness, gives a bouncy sensation, particularly when compared to the Sunset, which is less sensitive.

The Helix Midnight, like Helix Sunset, like Helix Sunset, is a balanced feel and a slower-moving upper layer. The Midnight is more firm than the Sunset and allows sleepers to sink a little deeper into the top layer.

The Helix Dusk is solid and lively. This is due to the use active foam for the layer on top, and coils in the supporting layer.

The Helix Twilight, like the Helix Sunset and Midnight, is characterized by a slower-moving top. It’s still a solid mattress, even though the comfort layer is slightly more comfortable.

Helix Dawn, like the Helix Dawn, like the Helix Dusk, has a soft, firm and bouncy feel it due to the use of dynamic foam (in the comfort layer) along with coils (in the support layer).

Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lbs – 230 lbs

The Helix Midnight (which combines spinal support and pressure relief) and The Helix Dusk are likely to be the preferred choice for back sleepers (which gives a firmer spinal support).

The Helix Midnight (if your preference is a more firm feeling) or the soft and more pressure-reducing Helix Moonlight and Sunset are the most likely option for people who are average-weight side sleepers.

Finally, stomach sleepers with a moderate weight should choose the supportive Helix Twilight or Dawn.

Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230lbs

It is recommended that the Helix Dusk should provide appropriate support for back sleepers who weigh a lot, as it relieves tension while ensuring the alignment of the spine.

The most soft models of the Helix range, like the Helix Moonlight or Helix Sunset, should provide sufficient of pressure relief for heavyweight side sleepers.

Heavyweight stomach sleepers On the other hand tend to go to Helix Dawn. Helix Dawn (the firmest mattress of the range) for the best spinal support.

Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130lbs

There should be a variety of options for light back sleepers. The Helix Moonlight, Midnight, and Dusk all have lots of spinal support and different levels of pressure relief to accommodate different sleeping styles.

In the same way, side sleepers who are light can choose from the Helix Midnight, Moonlight, or Sunset and should give adequate pressure relief while allowing users to customize the level of hardness according to their requirements.

Finally stomach sleepers will appreciate Helix Twilight or Dawn to be the most supportive. Helix Twilight and Dawn for the best supportive.

Helix Mattresses Construction

Regarding construction and construction methods, the majority Helix mattresses are constructed in the same way. Helix mattresses are constructed the same way: They have the same cover, and the same foam comfort layers are placed over individually wrapped the coils to support them.

The majority of Helix mattresses, including the newest models, come with the SoftTouch Design cover that is soft, elastic, and air-tight. This design allows air to circulate freely through the mattress’s top. In addition, every Helix model is equipped with a support layer made up of individually wrapped coils stacked over a high-density base foam which gives the mattress the overall shape and support.

The similarities stop there for the most part. The foam layers that provide comfort vary in size, stiffness, layout and the types of foam. Additional materials are also offered on certain versions. Let’s look at it more closely!.

Helix Sunset

The Helix Sunset’s comfort layer is made up of pressure-reducing Memory Plus Foam, which provides the slow-moving, comfortable feel that memory foam is renowned for. A layer of transition made up of Helix Dynamic foam, a foam made of latex that’s more firm, bouncier and more bolstering, sits under that Memory Plus Foam.

Helix Moonlight

While the Sunset’s top layer of comfort is made of Memory Plus Foam, the Helix Midnight’s main comfort layer and transition layer is made of the Helix Dynamic Foam. It is a different latex-foam alternative, and the multiple layers of this dynamic foam give it a bouncy feeling when compared to Helix Sunset. Helix Sunset.

Helix Midnight

Memory Plus Foam is the main comfort layer in the Helix Midnight, and it provides pressure reduction and body shaping. A layer of transitional high-quality polyfoam lies under that Memory Plus Foam. The layer is extremely responsive, which means that the mattress as a whole responds to pressure more quickly.

Helix Dusk

The Dusk’s main comfort layer is made up of Helix Dynamic Foam, a foam substitute made of latex that is bouncy and responsive. The layer is made comprised of Memory Plus Foam sits beneath this layer. (Think of the Dusk’s construction as similar to the one from Helix Sunset’s construction. Helix Sunset, but reversed.) Helix Dynamic Foam has been placed over Memory Plus Foam to create a lively, responsive surface, while Memory Plus Foam helps relieve pressure as sleepers sink into the mattress.

Helix Twilight

The Helix Twilight, like the Helix Midnight, has a slow-moving Memory Plus Foam layer above a dense, high-grade polyfoam layer that acts as a transition. The Memory Plus Foam adds some convenience, but don’t get taken in by the appearance: this is an extremely firm mattress that has very less give.

Helix Dawn

Last but not least, the Helix Dawn has the Helix dynamic foam comfort layer that is layered over a high-quality, dense polyfoam layer transition layer. This creates a firm, bouncy, and supple sleep surface that has very minimal give.

Helix Mattresses Performance

We tested Helix mattresses through a series of tests. Helix mattresses through a series of tests to see their performance in key areas like temperature control and edge support, motion transfer, and other areas. Keep reading to find out the results!

Sleeping Hot or Cold

Do you feel hot or cold when sleeping? If you’re still concerned about your mattress being too hot, you might want to consider buying a LUXE version of your mattress.

Motion Transfer

According to our tests that some mattresses outperform others when it comes to keeping out any disturbances that might occur on your mattress’s top. For instance, the Helix Sunset, Midnight, and Twilight offered the most effective motion-seclusion. This is due they have a memory foam that is slower moving at the top of each of the models, which does an excellent job of blocking motion. These are the top mattresses for couples available on the market.

Edge Support

Every Helix mattress provided good edge support across all models. As we sat and fell asleep at the edge of each model, we felt safe.

Durability

The Helix mattresses are constructed with high-density foams and robust coils, ensuring that they will endure a long time.

Off-Gassing

There was the off-gassing of all six Helix mattresses in the beginning. It will disappear in a few days, in the event that it is not earlier.

Noise

We didn’t notice any noticeable sound when moving around on any of these mattresses at the time of our review. Since all of them have coils, it’s possible that they’ll begin to make noise over time.

Sex

When looking for a sex mattress, most people are concerned about how simple it is to change positions on the bed. Because all of the Helix mattresses are made of coils, they are responsive enough that you can move easily across all of them. The models with memory foam on their top layers (particularly the Helix Sunset, Midnight, and Twilight) might make changing your position a bit harder due to their slower movement.
