Consumer Reports Purple Mattress – Our Purple Mattress Hybrid Review 2021

The Purple Hybrid mattress delivers the same signature Purple feel, but with a more durable and supportive construction. Consumer Reports Purple Mattress

Purple Hybrid mattresses come from the same company that made Hyper-Elastic Pomer and the original Purple bed. Purple actually offers three hybrid beds: the Purple Hybrid and the Purple Hybrid Premier 3 & 4. Below I will discuss the reasons you might choose one over another and whether they are worth the price. Keep reading to discover if the Purple Hybrid mattress is right for YOU.

Purple Hybrid, also called the Purple 2, is the thinnest hybrid option and measures in at 11 inches. It is also more firm than the other models, making it ideal for stomach or back sleepers. It’s also the most affordable Purple Hybrid Mattress.

The Purple Hybrid Premier (formerly Purple 3) is 12 inches in thickness with a thicker Hyper elastic Polymer comfort layer. This makes it feel slightly softer, and it lands at a medium-firm to medium-firm level on the scale. Consumer Reports Purple Mattress

The Purple Hybrid Premier 4 is the most expensive of the Purple hybrid beds, but it’s a whopping 13 inches thick and is extra supportive. Like the Purple Hybrid Premier 3, it has a medium to medium-firm profile, and we think it would suit all body types.

First impressions

Purple Hybrids include purple details throughout the bed. This is a wonderful addition for anyone who loves the color. It has a premium appearance thanks to the fine details on the cover. You can also tell that it is a bit heavier than the Purple flagship mattress. The main thing people want to know about this mattress is what does the Purple feel like?

Well, it’s completely different from the innerspring mattress in the guest room at Grandma’s, I’ll tell you that much. It’s a completely new design for a bed and it ended up working in the company’s favor. Consumer Reports Purple Mattress

Purple Hybrid mattress firmness/feel

Purple Hybrid beds are soft, airy and don’t feel like foam no matter what model they come in. Feel the squishy, squared shapes underneath the mattress by running your fingers along its center.

It’s barely noticeable when you lie down. It just feels buoyant, like you’re floating in your hammock or on top of your head. The thick layer pocketsed coils make it really supportive, which I’ll explain below.

The Purple Hybrid 2 simultaneously feels supportive and pressure-relieving, but it also has a slightly firmer profile. It’s 7/10 on the firmness scale. While the soft squares aren’t pushed into your hips or shoulders if you lie sideways, they don’t feel like a typical firm mattress. However, my back and spine feel reinforced by the Hyper Elastic Polymer layer. I find it a little firmer than my Original Purple mattress.

You might be interested in the Purple Hybrid, but aren’t ready to try out new bedding options. The Purple Hybrid might be for you if it offers a mattress feel that is both supportive and light on the hips, shoulders and back. Consumer Reports Purple Mattress

Purple Hybrid Premier

The brand’s two upper-level hybrid beds have the same signature Purple feel, but they have a slightly softer profile because of their thicker layers of Hyper-Elastic Polymer.

I think they both land in between a medium to medium-firm, or around a 6 on the firmness scale. Consumer Reports Purple Mattress

Construction of Purple Hybrid mattresses

Consumer Reports Purple MattressThe Purple Hybrid comes in three different models, each with a different thickness of the Purple Grid gel layer.

The Purple Hybrid has 4 layers and measures around 11 inches high. Here’s a simple breakdown of the bed’s layers so you get an idea of what makes Purple, Purple:

A thin slab made of basic foam approximately one inch thick that supports the thick layer of pocketed coils above.

The mattress is made up of thick pockets of coils measuring 7.5 inches in diameter, each wrapped in fabric to limit movement transfer. It is the foundation of this mattress’s support.

A thin layer of foam about a quarter inch thick to neutralize the effect of the mattress’s foundation.

The brand’s Hyper-Elastic Polymer is approximately 2 inches thick, laid out in a grid pattern. This is the layer that makes it different from the Purple Hybrids. Each mattress has an individual thickness. It is soft, bouncy and provides the majority of the Purple’s comfort.

The dense foam slabs that surround the edges make the sides more sturdy and supportive.

The Purple’s StretchMax cover is atop, and it is, as the name suggests, extra-stretchy. It feels more breathable than traditional mattress covers. I compare it to an athletic antisweat top rather than a soft cotton one. Consumer Reports Purple Mattress

Purple Hybrid Premier mattress layers

The two Purple Hybrid Premier beds are the top-tier mattress options from the brand. Really, the only major differences in construction are the top layers.

The Purple 3 has a 3-inch layer of Hyper-Elastic Polymer at the top, while Purple 4 has 4 inches.

The Purple Hybrid is softer than these, although they don’t feel any different. Consumer Reports Purple Mattress

Motion isolation

Motion isolation is not something that innerspring beds are known for, but the Purple Hybrid has pocketsed coils and special material that make it possible.

I believe it’s quite effective at isolating motion even though it’s a super-bouncy mattress.

It almost makes no sound, so you’ll barely be able notice your partner’s movements on the other. Consumer Reports Purple Mattress

Edge support

Purple Hybrid mattress are made with firm foam around edges to keep your body upright if you find yourself slipping towards the side of bed at night.

As a result, I give edge support capabilities on this mattress two enthusiastic thumbs up.

Temperature

The other benefit of the Purple Grid besides bouncy comfort would have to be its temperature-regulating abilities. The Purple Grid does not have any fancy cooling materials. Its natural, breathable design means that it is one of the best mattresses available for allowing airflow.

It doesn’t retain heat the way memory foam or polyfoam might. This makes it appealing to hot sleeping people like me who want additional cooling. Although it’s not cold, I don’t feel too hot when I sleep on the Purple. Consumer Reports Purple Mattress

Purple Hybrid’s best sleeping positions and body types

You wouldn’t expect every size shirt to fit at your local clothing store.

There are many options. The best mattress for you will depend on your body type and the position that you prefer to sleep in. Consumer Reports Purple Mattress

Position

The primary sleeping positions are side, stomach, back or a combination of them all. Purple Hybrids will be most suitable for stomach and back sleepers.

The Purple Premier mattress is the best option for side sleepers. They are a little more soft and pressure-relieving that the standard hybrid model, which will make them more beneficial for your sides and shoulders. Consumer Reports Purple Mattress

Type of body

The Purple Hybrid beds are perfect for anyone, regardless of their body type.

Purple Hybrid mattresses work well for everyone because they offer more support than traditional foam beds such as Casper or Nectar. You will notice the layer of steel pocketed coils at the bottom. It is far more durable than foam. This mattress will last 10 years longer than an all-foam one. Consumer Reports Purple Mattress

Price

Purple Hybrids are more expensive than original Purples. They also tend to be less affordable for those who need to spend as little as possible on a brand new bed. You might find it reasonable if you want to invest in your nights of sleep.

Purple Hybrid mattresses can be purchased in sizes from twinXL to California queen. The prices start at $1,299, and can go up to $1,899. They don’t usually run discounts for this bed, but they may have a promotion going for free sheets or pillows with your purchase.

Purple Hybrid mattresses have metal coils that are encased with foam for support and softness.
