Helix Mattress Firmness and Feel
It’s likely that stiffness was already mentioned in this roundup. That’s because one of the most crucial elements to consider when purchasing a new mattress is the firmness (and how firmness affects the comfort). These aspects will reveal the mattress’s ability to accommodate your preferred bed place (s). Let’s have a look at the comfort and firmness of the Helix mattress range.
What Is the Firmness of Helix Mattresses?
The Helix mattresses come in a range of different hardness choices, with the softer being moderately soft, and the firmest being fairly firm. Its Helix Sunset is on the soft side of the spectrum; we gave it a hardness rating of 5.5 out of 10 in the scale of firmness. (A 6.5/10 is the standard industry norm for moderate firmness.) Its Helix Midnight is next, and we gave it a 6/10 that means it’s softer than normal. Helix Dusk and the Helix Midnight, as well as Helix Dusk fall somewhere between the spectrum. Both mattresses received a rating of around 7/10, which is a bit heavier than average. They are Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn are at the harder end of the spectrum, both receiving a 7.5/10 rating (firmer than the average).
It’s crucial to remember that hardness is a personal preference. If you’re looking for firmness, you may rate these mattresses differently depending on your weight and preferences. Heavier persons, for example, may find these mattresses more firm as they can push further into the mattress to reach into the support layers. However, those who are lighter may be surprised to find these mattresses more supple due to their position in the comfort layer of each bed(s).
Sleeping on the Helix Mattresses
We slept on the Helix mattress for a long time to get an accurate picture of what it’s like to lie on the models in different positions. Check out the results!
Helix Sunset Mattress
Due to its softness the Helix Sunset didn’t feel nearly comfortable enough to be a good back sleeper. Our hips were a bit too deep into the mattress, which caused the spine to become misaligned.
While the Helix Sunset’s softness isn’t ideal for those who sleep on their backs but it’s great for side sleepers. We were very relaxed in this position as the mattress’s softness helped cushion any tension points in the shoulder and hip. In fact, it’s one of the best mattresses for hip pain that we’ve found.
The Helix Sunset is not supportive enough for stomach-sleeping due of its softness. Our hips were too deep into the mattress and pulled the back out of position just as they did when we were back sleeping.
Helix Moonlight Mattress
When reclining while sleeping, the Helix Moonlight was adequate but not exceptional. If you plan on sleeping in this position all night, you’ll almost certainly need a more firm mattress that provides more support and assists in maintaining an appropriate spine alignment.
It is the Helix Moonlight is an excellent option for sleeping sideways due to its softness. We didn’t feel any unwelcome pressure around the hip or shoulder.
The Helix Moonlight, like the Helix Sunset, is not adequate for stomach-sleeping. Our hips were pushed too far in the mattress leading the spine to shift.
Helix Midnight Mattress
While resting in the Helix Midnight and feeling fantastic, we were able to feel great. We experienced a bit of pressure alleviation without sacrificing spinal alignment , thanks to the mattress’s good blend of comfort and support. It’s the best mattress for back sleepers that we have reviewed on this list.
Even though the Helix Midnight is firmer than it’s counterparts, the Helix Sunset or Moonlight and Moonlight, we were able to rest comfortably on our sides on the mattress. It provides adequate pressure alleviation between the hip and shoulder in our opinion.
While stomach sleeping on the Helix Midnight, we were well, but not super. People who sleep in this posture throughout the night should consider mattresses that are firmer and provide more spinal support.
Helix Dusk Mattress
The Helix Dusk is more supportive than other mattresses we’ve tested, which may be the reason we felt so comfortable while lying upon our backs. We’re sure that we’ll be able to maintain good spinal alignment throughout the night because of the mattress’s suppleness.
It’s probably not surprising it is that Helix Dusk feels a little too firm for a side sleeper considering that we’ve moved to the firmer side of the spectrum. There was some discomfort around the hip and shoulder area that could cause significant discomfort if you were to sleep in this position for the entire night.
The Helix Dusk should suit stomach sleepers of average weight, as it should assist them maintain appropriate spinal alignment. However, stomach sleepers who are heavier may not receive enough support here.
Helix Twilight Mattress
The Helix Twilight was proved to be the ideal bed for back pain. It’s the ideal mattress for back sleepers who require additional support owing to increased weight, back pain, or other reasons. The firmer construction of this mattress assists in keeping the hips lifted and properly aligned with the spine.
Because the Helix Twilight is on the firmer side We found it hard to lay on our backs on the mattress. We felt as if we were being suffocated by the shoulders and hips.
For most stomach sleepers, the Helix Twilight mattress to be an ideal choice, as the mattress’s firmness should provide enough of spinal support in this position.
Helix Dawn Mattress
Back sleepers who prefer an extra firm mattress will love the Helix Dawn’s superior level of support. However, those who like a little pressure alleviation when resting on their backs could find this mattress to be excessively firm.
The Helix Dawn is far too difficult to sleep on side and you’ll end up with lots of pressure points in your shoulder and hip. The Helix Dawn that is soft is much better for those who sleep on their sides.
The Helix Dawn is the best mattress designed for stomach sleepers, in our view. Throughout the night, this firm and supportive mattress will keep your hips up and aligned in alignment with your spine.
What Do the Helix Mattresses Feel Like?
Helix mattresses are all hybrid design that incorporates foam over coils. Despite these commonalities, each model has its own distinctive character.
The Helix Sunset offers a soft top and a well-balanced foam feel. The plush comfort layer encourages sleepers to feel comfortable and provides the mattress with the feeling of a slow-moving.
The Helix Moonlight, despite its softness, has a bouncy feeling, particularly when compared with the Sunset that is more sensitive.
The Helix Midnight, like the Helix Sunset, offers an even feel and smooth top layer that moves slowly. The Midnight is more firm than the Sunset, allowing sleepers to sink a little more deeply into the top layer.
The Helix Dusk is solid and bouncey. This is because of the use of high-performance foam for the layer on top and coils in the support layer.
It is similar to the Helix Twilight, like the Helix Sunset and Midnight, is characterized by a slower-moving top. It’s still a solid mattress, with the comfort layer being slightly more comfortable.
The Helix Dawn, like the Helix Dusk, has a firm, bouncy feel to it due to the use of foam that is dynamic (in the comfort layer) and coils (in the support layer).
Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lbs – 230 lbs
Helix Midnight (which is a combination of pressure reduction and spinal support) or the Helix Midnight (which combines spinal support and pressure reduction) or The Helix Dusk are likely to be preferred by back sleepers (which offers firmer spinal support).
The Helix Late at Night (if want a slightly harder sensation) or the softer and more pressure-relieving Helix Moonlight and Sunset are more likely for side sleepers of average weight.
The stomach sleepers who are of moderate weight should consider the supportive Helix Twilight or Dawn.
Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230lbs
It is recommended that the Helix Dusk should provide appropriate support for those who are heavy-weight back sleepers because it eases pressure and maintains spinal alignment.
The softest models in the Helix range, such as Helix Moonlight or Helix Moonlight or Helix Sunset are likely to provide adequate pressure relief for heavy-weight side sleepers.
The stomach sleepers who are heavy On the other hand are likely to move toward the Helix Dawn (the firmest mattress of the range) to ensure proper spinal support.
Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130lbs
There should be a wide range of models for light back sleepers. For instance, the Helix Moonlight, Midnight, and Dusk all provide plenty of spinal support as well as different levels of pressure relief that can accommodate different styles of sleeping.
In the same way, side sleepers who are light can select from Helix Midnight, Moonlight, or Sunset, which should all offer adequate pressure relief, with the ability to alter the hardness level to their requirements.
Finally, stomach sleepers will find that the Helix Twilight and Dawn for the best supportive.
Helix Mattresses Construction
As far as construction is concerned, each the Helix mattresses are built in the same manner: They share the same cover and the foam comfort layers are layered above individually wrapped supports for coils.
All Helix mattresses, including, have A SoftTouch Design cover that is elastic, soft, and air-tight. This design allows air to circulate freely through the mattress’s top. Meanwhile, each Helix model comes with an extra layer of support that is made of individually wrapped coils stacked over a dense base foam which provides the mattress with the overall shape and stability.
The similarities stop there for the most part. The comfort layers of these mattresses vary in size, stiffness, layout and the types of foam. Other materials are offered on certain versions. Let’s have a look at it more closely!.
Helix Sunset
The Helix Sunset’s comfort layer is comprised of pressure-reducing Memory Plus Foam, which offers the slower-moving feel which memory foam has become renowned for. The transition layer is made comprised of Helix Dynamic foam, a foam made of latex that’s larger, more bouncier, and more supportive, is placed underneath the Memory Plus Foam.
Helix Moonlight
While the Sunset’s top layer of comfort is made of Memory Plus Foam, the Helix Midnight’s primary comfort layer and the transition layer are made of Helix Dynamic Foam. This is yet another latex-foam choice with multiple layers of this dynamic foam provide a lively feeling when compared to that of the Helix Sunset.
Helix Midnight
Memory Plus Foam is the principal comfort layer of the Helix Midnight, and it helps reduce pressure and body shaping. A transition layer of dense high-quality polyfoam is placed beneath the Memory Plus Foam. This layer is quite flexible, meaning that the mattress overall responds to pressure more quickly.
Helix Dusk
The main comfort layer is constructed of Helix Dynamic Foam, a latex-foam substitute that’s bouncy and receptive. It’s a layer of Memory Plus Foam sits beneath this layer. (Think about the Dusk’s construction as similar to the one from that of the Helix Sunset, but reversed.) Helix Dynamic Foam is laid over Memory Plus Foam to create a bouncy smooth surface. Memory Plus Foam provides pressure relief when sleepers lie down on the mattress.
Helix Twilight
Helix Twilight, like the Helix Twilight, like the Helix Midnight, has a slow-moving Memory Plus Foam layer above the dense, high-quality polyfoam transition layer. This Memory Plus Foam adds some ease of use, but don’t be fooled: this is a mattress that is firm with very less give.
Helix Dawn
Last but not least, the Helix Dawn has an Helix Comfort Layer made of Dynamic Foam that is layered over a thick, high-quality polyfoam layer transition layer. The result is an extremely firm, bouncey, and supple sleep surface that has very little bounce.

Helix Mattresses Performance
We put the Helix mattresses through a series of tests to see the performance of these mattresses in key areas including temperature regulation and edge support, motion transfer and many more. Read on to learn what they did!
Sleeping Hot or Cold
Sleeping Hot or Cold If you’re worried about your mattress being too hot, you might want to consider buying a LUXE version of your mattress.
Motion Transfer
As we have seen in our tests that some mattresses outperform others when it comes to keeping out any disturbances that might occur on the surface of the mattress. For instance, the Helix Sunset, Midnight, and Twilight have the highest level of motion-isolating. This is due to the slower-moving memory foam close to the top of all of these models, which do an excellent job of absorbing motion. These are the best mattresses for couples available on the market.
Edge Support
Every Helix mattress provided excellent edge support across the board. While sitting and sleeping on the edges of each model, we felt comfortable and safe.
Durability
All of the Helix mattresses are made from high-density foams as well as sturdy coils to ensure they’ll last for a long period of period of.
Off-Gassing
We did notice some off-gassing from the six Helix mattresses initially. The issue will be gone within a couple of days, in the event that it is not earlier.
Noise
We didn’t hear any distinct noise while moving about on any of these mattresses at the time of our review. However, because all of them have coils, it’s likely that they’ll begin to squeak over time.
Sex
When searching for a sex mattress, most people are concerned about how simple it will be to move places on their mattress. Because all of the Helix mattresses feature coils, they are flexible enough to allow you to move around easily on each. The models that feature memory foam in the top layer (particularly, the Helix Sunset, Midnight, and Twilight) could make changing positions a little more difficult due to their slower movement.
