Helix Mattress Firmness and Feel
You may have noticed that stiffness is already mentioned throughout this article. This is because one of the most crucial elements to consider when buying for a new mattress is firmness (and how firmness affects the comfort). These aspects will reveal a lot about a mattress’s suitability for your chosen sleeping location (s). Let’s have a look at the comfort and firmness in the Helix mattress series.
What Is the Firmness of Helix Mattresses?
The Helix mattresses come in a wide range of choices, with the softer being moderately soft, and the most firm ones being moderately firm. The Helix Sunset is on the soft side of the spectrum; we have given it a rating that was 5.5 out of 10 in the scale of firmness. (A 6.5/10 is the standard industry norm for medium firmness.) Helix Dusk is next. Helix Midnight is next, and we gave it a score of 6/10 which means that it’s less firm than average. Helix Dusk and the Helix Midnight as well as the Helix Dusk are in the middle of the spectrum. Both mattresses received a rating of around 7/10 which is slightly more firm than the average. Helix Twilight and the Helix Twilight as well as the Helix Dawn are at the more difficult side of the spectrum, both receiving an 7.5/10 assessment (firmer than the average).
It is important to keep in mind that the degree of firmness is a personal preference. When it comes to firmness, you may evaluate these mattresses in different ways based on your weight and preferences. Heavier persons, for example could find the mattresses more firm because they are able to press further into the mattress to reach into the support layers. Meanwhile, lighter people may discover that these mattresses are more supple due to their position within the comfortable layer each bed(s).
Sleeping on the Helix Mattresses
We slept on the Helix mattresses for a long period of time in order to gain an idea of what it’s like to rest on each model in different positions. Have a look at what we discovered!
Helix Sunset Mattress
Due to its softness because of its softness, Helix Sunset didn’t feel nearly sufficient for back sleepers. The hips of ours sink a little too far into the mattress, which caused the spine to shift.
The Helix Sunset’s softness isn’t ideal for those who sleep on their backs It’s perfect for those who sleep on their sides. We were really comfortable in this position because the mattress’s softness helped cushion any pressure areas around the hip and shoulder. In fact, it’s one of the greatest mattresses for hip discomfort that we’ve found.
It is apparent that the Helix Sunset is not supportive enough for stomach-sleeping due it is soft. Our hips were too deep into the mattress which pulled our back out of position, just as they did when we were sleeping back to back.
Helix Moonlight Mattress
While back sleeping while sleeping, back sleeping, the Helix Moonlight was adequate but not outstanding. If you plan on sleeping in this position all through the night, you’ll require a mattress that provides additional support and helps maintain an appropriate spine alignment.
It is the Helix Moonlight is an excellent option for sleeping on the side because of its comfort. We didn’t feel any unwelcome tension around the hips or shoulders.
The Helix Moonlight, like the Helix Sunset, isn’t adequate for stomach-sleeping. Our hips were pushed too far into the mattress, which caused the spine to misalign.
Helix Midnight Mattress
When we lay down on the Helix Midnight, we felt fantastic. We experienced a bit of pressure relief without sacrificing spinal alignment thanks to the mattress’s good balance of support and comfort. It’s the most comfortable mattress for those who sleep on their backs on this list.
Although the Helix Midnight is more firm in comparison to it’s counterparts, the Helix Sunset and Moonlight and Moonlight, we were able to rest comfortably on our backs on the mattress. It provides adequate pressure alleviation on the hip and shoulder according to our experience.
As we lay on our stomachs in the Helix Midnight, we were good but not great. People who sleep in this posture throughout the night should consider an extra firm mattress that offers more spinal support.
Helix Dusk Mattress
The Helix Dusk is more supportive than other mattresses we’ve tried, which could explain why we felt so at ease while sleeping in our backs. We’re confident that we’ll have an ideal spinal alignment throughout the night due to the mattress’s supportive nature.
It’s probably not surprising it is that Helix Dusk feels a little too firm for a side sleeper given that we’ve moved into the firmer side in the range. We noticed some pressure on the hip and shoulder that would cause discomfort if you slept in this position for a long time.
The Helix Dusk should suit stomach sleepers with a normal weight since it can help to maintain a healthy spinal alignment. However, stomach sleepers with heavier weights may not find enough support here.
Helix Twilight Mattress
The Helix Twilight was proved to be the greatest bed for back pain. It’s the ideal mattress for back sleepers who require extra support due to weight gain back pain, other reasons. The firmer structure of this mattress aids in keeping the hips lifted and in alignment to the spinal column.
Because this mattress Helix Twilight is slightly firmer than other mattresses It was difficult to lay on our backs on this mattress. We felt suffocated in the shoulders and hips.
Most stomach sleepers should find the Helix Twilight mattress to be a good choice, as the mattress’ hardness should give enough spinal support in this position.
Helix Dawn Mattress
Back sleepers who favor mattresses that are firm will appreciate the Helix Dawn’s superior level of support. However, those who prefer an occasional relief from pressure when lying back could find this mattress to be too firm.
It’s the Helix Dawn is far too hard to be used for sleeping on your side and you’ll end up with a lot of pressure points around your shoulder and hip. A softer model will be considerably better for sleepers who prefer side sleeping.
It is the Helix Dawn Mattress is one of the greatest mattress for stomach sleepers, in our opinion. Through the night the firm and supportive mattress helps keep the hips elevated and in alignment to the spinal column.
What Do the Helix Mattresses Feel Like?
Helix mattresses all have a hybrid composition with foam layered over coils. Despite these similarities every model has its own distinct individuality.
The Helix Sunset offers a soft top and a balanced foam feel. The comfort layer’s plushness encourages sleepers to feel comfortable and creates the feeling of a slow-moving.
It is worth noting that the Helix Moonlight, despite its softness, has a bouncy feeling, particularly when compared with the Sunset that is more sensitive.
The Helix Midnight, like Helix Sunset, like Helix Sunset, has a balanced feel and a slower-moving upper layer. The Midnight is firmer than the Sunset which allows sleepers to sink a little deeper into the top layer.
The Helix Dusk is solid and bouncey. This is due to the use high-performance foam in the top layer, and coils in the supporting layer.
The Helix Twilight, like the Helix Sunset and Midnight, features a slower-moving top. This is still a firm mattress despite the comfort layer being slightly more cushiony.
The Helix Dawn, like the Helix Dusk, has a bouncy, firm feel to it due to the use of dynamic foam (in the layer of comfort) along with coils (in the support layer).
Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lbs – 230 lbs
The Helix Midnight (which combines spinal support and pressure reduction) as well as The Helix Dusk are likely to be preferred by back sleepers (which gives a firmer spinal support).
Sleeping on the Helix Late at Night (if your preference is a more firm feeling) or the more comfortable and more pressure-relieving Helix Moonlight and Sunset are most probable for side sleepers of average weight.
The stomach sleepers who are with a moderate weight should choose the supporting Helix Twilight or Dawn.
Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230lbs
The Helix Dusk should provide appropriate support for back sleepers who weigh a lot since it alleviates tension while ensuring the alignment of the spine.
The most comfortable models within the Helix range, like the Helix Moonlight or Helix Sunset are likely to provide adequate pressure relief for heavyweight side sleepers.
Heavyweight stomach sleepers On the other hand are likely to move towards The Helix Dawn (the firmest mattress of the range) for the best spinal support.
Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130lbs
There should be a variety of types available for lightweight back sleepers: The Helix Moonlight, Midnight, and Dusk all provide plenty of spinal support and different degrees of pressure relief that can accommodate different styles of sleeping.
In the same way, side sleepers who are light can pick from the Helix Midnight, Moonlight, or Sunset, which should all provide adequate pressure relief and allow users to adjust the level of hardness according to their requirements.
Finally, stomach sleepers will find Helix Twilight or Dawn to be the most supportive. Helix Twilight, or Dawn for the best comfortable.
Helix Mattresses Construction
Regarding construction and construction methods, the majority all of the Helix mattresses are built in the same way: They all have the same cover, and the same foam comfort layers are laid over individual coil support layers.
All Helix mattresses, including they have A SoftTouch Design cover that is elastic, soft, and air-tight. This design allows air to circulate freely throughout the mattress’s top. Additionally, every Helix model is equipped with an extra layer of support that is made of individually wrapped coils stacked on top of a base foam with a high density which provides the mattress with the overall shape and strength.
The similarities stop there for the most part. The foam layers that provide comfort differ in the thickness, stiffness, arrangement, and types of foam. Additional materials are also available in certain models. Let’s have a look at it more closely!.
Helix Sunset
The Helix Sunset’s comfort layer is comprised of pressure-relieving Memory Plus Foam, which offers the slower-moving feel of memory foam that it is renowned for. A transition layer composed comprised of Helix Dynamic foam, a latex-foam substitute that’s a bit firmer, bouncier, and more bolstering, sits under memory Plus Foam.
Helix Moonlight
The Helix Sunset’s comfort layer is comprised out of Memory Plus Foam, the Helix Midnight’s main comfort layer and the transition layer are made from the Helix Dynamic Foam. It is a different latex-foam alternative and the numerous layers of this foam provide a lively feeling when compared to Helix Sunset. Helix Sunset.
Helix Midnight
Memory Plus Foam is the main comfort layer in the Helix Midnight, and it provides pressure reduction and body shaping. A transition layer of thick, high-grade polyfoam sits beneath the Memory Plus Foam. This layer is quite responsive, implying that the mattress in general responds more quickly to pressure.
Helix Dusk
The main comfort layer is made up from Helix Dynamic Foam, a latex-foam replacement that’s soft and responsive. The layer is made composed of Memory Plus Foam sits beneath this layer. (Think of Dusk’s construction as being identical to that in that of the Helix Sunset, but reversed.) Helix Dynamic Foam can be placed over Memory Plus Foam to produce a bouncy smooth surface. Memory Plus Foam offers pressure relief as sleepers sink into the mattress.
Helix Twilight
The Helix Twilight, like the Helix Midnight, has a slow-moving Memory Plus Foam layer above a dense, high-grade polyfoam layer that acts as a transition. Its Memory Plus Foam adds some ease of use, but don’t be deceived by this being a firm mattress with little give.
Helix Dawn
Last but not least The Helix Dawn features a Helix Dynamic Foam comfort layer that is layered over a high-quality, dense polyfoam transition layer. The result is a soft, bouncy and comfortable sleep surface with very minimal give.

Off-Gassing
We did notice an off-gassing issue from the six Helix mattresses initially. It will disappear within a couple of days, or perhaps sooner.
