Helix Mattress Firmness and Feel
It’s likely that stiffness has already been discussed within this list. That’s because one of the most important aspects to think about when buying for the best mattress is its firmness (and the way that firmness impacts comfort). These factors will tell you a lot about a mattress’s suitableness for your bed position (s). Let’s have a look at the firmness and feel of the Helix mattress series.
What Is the Firmness of Helix Mattresses?
The Helix mattresses are available in a variety of hardness options, with the softest being moderately soft and the most firm ones being moderately firm. Its Helix Sunset is on the soft side of the spectrum; we gave it a hardness rating at 5.5 out of 10 in the scale of firmness. (A 6.5/10 is considered to be an industry standard for moderate firmness.) Its Helix Midnight is next, and we gave it a score of 6/10, which means it’s still more soft than the norm. Helix Dusk and the Helix Midnight and Helix Dusk fall somewhere in the middle of the spectrum. Both mattresses scored approximately a 7/10, which is a bit firmer than normal. Helix Twilight and the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn are on the more difficult side of the spectrum, with each receiving an 7.5/10 rating (firmer than average).
It’s important to be aware that hardness is a personal preference. In terms of the firmness of the mattress, you can rate these mattresses differently depending on your body weight and personal preferences. Heavier persons, for example might find them firmer since they can press deeper into the mattress and reach into the support layers. However, those who are lighter may find that these mattresses are softer since they are higher in the comfort layer of every bed(s).
Sleeping on the Helix Mattresses
We slept on Helix mattress for a long period in order to get an idea of the experience it’s like to lie on the models in different positions. Check out the results!
Helix Sunset Mattress
Because of its softness, the Helix Sunset was not comfortable enough to be a good back sleeper. Our hips sank a little too far into the mattress, causing the spine to become misaligned.
While the Helix Sunset’s softness isn’t ideal for back sleepers It’s perfect for those who prefer to sleep sideways. We were really relaxed in this position as the soft mattress cushioned possible stress points around the hip and shoulder. It’s actually one of the best mattresses to relieve hip discomfort that we’ve come across.
The Helix Sunset is not supportive enough for stomach sleep due it is soft. Our hips sank too deeply into the mattress which pulled our spine out of alignment, just the way they did when were back sleeping.
Helix Moonlight Mattress
As a back sleeper, back sleeping, the Helix Moonlight was adequate but not exceptional. If you’re planning to sleep in this position all night, you’ll almost certainly require a mattress with more support and assists in maintaining appropriate spinal alignment.
The Helix Moonlight is an excellent choice for side sleeping because of its comfort. We didn’t feel any unwelcome pressure around the hip or shoulder.
The Helix Moonlight, like the Helix Sunset, is not sufficient for stomach sleep. Our hips fell too deeply in the mattress causing the spine to be out of alignment.
Helix Midnight Mattress
As we slept on the Helix Midnight, we felt fantastic. We enjoyed a touch of pressure relief without sacrificing spinal alignment thanks to the mattress’s excellent combination of support and comfort. It is the greatest mattress for back sleepers that we have reviewed on this list.
Although the Helix Midnight mattress is firmer that it’s counterparts, the Helix Sunset or Moonlight and Moonlight, we were able to rest comfortably on our backs on this mattress. It is a good pressure-relief mattress around the shoulder and hip in our opinion.
While stomach sleeping on the Helix Midnight, we felt good but not great. Sleepers who are in this position all night should look for mattresses that are firmer and provide greater spinal support.
Helix Dusk Mattress
The Helix Dusk is more supportive than other models we’ve tried, which could be the reason we felt so good while resting in our backs. We’re confident that we’ll have an ideal spinal alignment throughout the night thanks to the mattress’s suppleness.
It’s probably not surprising it is that Helix Dusk feels a little too firm for side sleeping considering that we’ve moved to the firmer end in the range. We felt some pressure around the hip and shoulder area that would cause significant discomfort if you were to sleep in this position all night.
The Helix Dusk should suit stomach sleepers who weigh around average because it will help in maintaining a proper spine alignment. However, heavier stomach sleepers may not receive sufficient support.
Helix Twilight Mattress
The Helix Twilight was proved to be the ideal bed for back pain. It’s ideal for back sleepers who require additional support owing to weight gain or back pain, as well as other factors. The more firm construction of this mattress aids in keeping hips lifted and properly aligned with the spine.
Because it is the case that Helix Twilight is slightly firmer than other mattresses We found it hard to lie on our backs on this mattress. We felt like we were suffocated on the shoulders and hips.
Most stomach sleepers should find the Helix Twilight to be an ideal choice, as the mattress’ hardness should give enough spinal support in this position.
Helix Dawn Mattress
Back sleepers who prefer a firm mattress will appreciate the high degree of support. However, those who prefer a little pressure alleviation when resting on their backs may likely find this mattress to be too firm.
The Helix Dawn is far too hard for side sleeping and you’ll end up having a lot of pressure points in your shoulder and hip. A softer model will be much more suitable for those who sleep on their sides.
It is the Helix Dawn is the most comfortable mattress designed for stomach sleepers in our opinion. Through the night, this firm and supportive mattress helps keep the hips elevated and in alignment with the spine.
What Do the Helix Mattresses Feel Like?
Helix mattresses are all hybrid structure that has foam layers over coils. Despite these similarities, each model has its own distinctive personality.
The Helix Sunset offers a soft top and a well-balanced foam feel. The plush comfort layer encourages sleepers to relax and provides the mattress with a slow-moving feel.
It is worth noting that the Helix Moonlight, despite its softness, has a bouncy feeling, particularly when compared to the Sunset that is more sensitive.
The Helix Midnight is, just like it’s predecessor, the Helix Sunset, is a balanced feel and a slow-moving top layer. The Midnight is firmer than the Sunset and allows sleepers to sink a little further in the upper layer.
The Helix Dusk is solid and bouncey. This is due to the use active foam on the upper layer as well as coils in the layer supporting it.
The Helix Twilight, like the Helix Sunset and Midnight, is characterized by a slower-moving top. This is still a firm mattress despite the comfort layer being slightly more cushiony.
The Helix Dawn, like the Helix Dusk, has a firm, bouncy feel to it because of the use of foam that is dynamic (in the layer of comfort) as well as coils (in the support layer).
Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lbs – 230 lbs
It is the Helix Midnight (which combines spinal support with pressure reduction) and The Helix Dusk are likely to be the preferred choice for back sleepers (which provides a more firmer spine support).
The Helix Midnight (if your preference is a slightly more spongy feeling) or the softer and more pressure-reducing Helix Moonlight (or Sunset) is the most likely option for people who are average-weight side sleepers.
The stomach sleepers who are with a moderate weight should choose the supportive Helix Twilight or Dawn.
Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230lbs
The Helix Dusk should provide appropriate support for heavyweight back sleepers, as it relieves pressure and maintains spinal alignment.
The most comfortable models within the Helix range, like the Helix Moonlight or Helix Sunset, should provide sufficient of pressure relief for heavy-weight side sleepers.
For stomach sleepers with heavy weights, on the other hand are likely to move toward Helix Dawn. Helix Dawn (the firmest mattress in the collection) for the best spinal support.
Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130lbs
There ought to be a range of options for light back sleepers: The Helix Moonlight, Midnight, and Dusk all provide plenty of support for the spine and various degrees of pressure relief to accommodate various sleeping styles.
Similarly, lightweight side sleepers can select from Helix Midnight, Moonlight, or Sunset, which should all provide adequate pressure relief while allowing users to customize the hardness level to their needs.
Finally, stomach sleepers will find the Helix Twilight and Dawn for the best supportive.
Helix Mattresses Construction
In terms of construction, all all of the Helix mattresses are built in the same way. They have the same cover and the foam comfort layers are layered above individual supports for coils.
The majority of Helix mattresses, and in particular they have a SoftTouch Design cover that is soft, elastic, and breathable. This design allows air to circulate freely throughout the top of the mattress. Additionally, every Helix model is equipped with an extra layer of support that is made of individually wrapped coils stacked on top of a base foam with a high density which gives the mattress the overall shape and strength.
The similarities end there for the most part. The cushions’ comfort layers differ in the density, stiffness, placement and kinds of foam. There are additional materials available on some versions. Let’s take a look at it more closely!.
Its cushion of comfort is made of pressure-relieving Memory Plus Foam, which offers the slower-moving feel that memory foam is known for. The transition layer is made comprised of Helix Dynamic foam, a latex-foam substitute that’s a bit larger, more bouncier, and more supportive, is placed underneath the Memory Plus Foam.
While the Sunset’s comfort layer is made from Memory Plus Foam, the Helix Midnight’s main comfort layer and transition layer is made of Helix Dynamic Foam. This is yet another latex-foam choice, and the multiple layers of this foam give it a bouncy feel when compared with Helix Sunset. Helix Sunset.
Memory Plus Foam is the primary comfort layer of the Helix Midnight, and it helps reduce pressure and body shaping. A transition layer of thick high-quality polyfoam is placed beneath it. Memory Plus Foam. This layer is quite responsive, implying that the mattress overall responds to pressure more quickly.
The Dusk’s main comfort layer is constructed out of Helix Dynamic Foam, a latex-foam replacement that’s soft and receptive. A layer of Memory Plus Foam sits beneath this layer. (Think about the Dusk’s construction as being identical to that from the Helix Sunset, but reversed.) Helix Dynamic Foam has been placed over Memory Plus Foam to produce a bouncy smooth surface. Memory Plus Foam helps relieve pressure as sleepers sink into the mattress.
The Helix Twilight, like the Helix Midnight, has a slow-moving Memory Plus Foam layer above the dense, high-quality polyfoam layer that acts as a transition. This Memory Plus Foam adds some convenience, but don’t get taken in by the appearance: this is an extremely firm mattress that has very little give.
Then, last but not least last but not least, the Helix Dawn features a Helix Dynamic Foam comfort layer that is layered over a thick, high-quality polyfoam layer transition layer. This combination produces a soft, bouncy and comfortable sleep surface with very little bounce.

Helix Mattresses Performance
We tested the Helix mattresses to a set of tests to see the performance of these mattresses in key areas like temperature control as well as edge support, motion transfer and much other areas. Keep reading to find out the results!
Sleeping Hot or Cold
Are you sleeping hot or cold? If you’re concerned about the possibility of overheating, think about purchasing a LUXE version of any mattress.
Based on our testing that some mattresses outperform others in minimizing disturbances over your mattress’s top. For instance, the Helix Sunset, Midnight, and Twilight provided the best motion isolation. That’s because to the slower-moving memory foam near the top of each of the models, it does an excellent job of absorption of motion. These are some of the top mattresses for couples available on the market.
Each Helix mattress had good edge support throughout the range. As we sat and fell asleep on the edges of each mattress, we felt secure.
The Helix mattresses are manufactured with strong coils and high-density foams, ensuring that they will last for a long duration.
There was the off-gassing of the six Helix mattresses in the beginning. This will go away in a few days, or perhaps sooner.
We didn’t hear any distinct noise when we moved around on one of these mattresses at the time we wrote our review. Since all of them have coils, it’s possible that they’ll start to sound squeaky over time.
If you are looking for a sexual mattress, most people are concerned about how easy it will be to move positions on the mattress. Because all of the Helix mattresses have coils, they must be flexible enough to allow you to move around with ease on all of them. The models that have memory foam in the top layer (particularly, those that have memory foam in the top layer (such as Helix Sunset, Midnight, and Twilight) might make changing positions a little more difficult due to their slow movement.
